I got my bracket fixed on Friday and he said that it wouldnt have slowed down the progress so im delighted. I only have them two weeks now and the movement is just amazing. Im so glad I got them now. I had my first night out with them and to be honest hardly anyone noticed them!

Getting my 6 month smile braces on Tuesday. Can't wait to get the treatment started. Sooner they go on the sooner they come off!!

Had train tracks 15 years ago and remember my mouth being in bits after. Not looking forward to the mouth ulcers...or six months without red wine!!

Glad to hear they're working out so well for you Lovbnmoma. Have you been taking pictures of the progress? Must remember to take some before pics or my own.

Anything I need to bite into I eat with a knife and fork, even sandwiches! Anything crunchy I break/cut into small pieces, or avoid if I'm gonna run into trouble. Don't want any of those suckers pinging off!

Yeah I have started to eat with knife and fork now for everything too! Learned my lesson although the dentist said that it could be the surface of my teeth, sometimes the cement doesnt stick too well on some teeth so he reckons thats why my bracket came off. He put the bottom on there on Saturday, im in agony with them and also with a massive mouth ulcer right in front of the bottom braces. Dont think I have ever had such a bad one.
My top teeth have moved so much they look so straight now, I still have to get them tightened for the first time too in two weeks. How is everyone else getting on?

My ortho said today I'll be getting them off at my next appointment :D Was supposed to be getting the top brace off first...but now getting the top and bottom off! Beginning of July. I have an appointment booked to get them off and then getting my retainer fitted later that day! Exciting.

Wow! That's great news. Just had my second adjustment. Are you going to get any sort of whitening done?

Guys, I'll be getting mine in a few months now. How are you managing dental hygiene? I believe that you can't use floss anyone, so what are you doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭paulers06

I got a Waterpik. It's a water flosser and they sell them in boots. I find it amazing. I use it before brushing my teeth and it dislodges all the bits of food stuck in my braces. My dentist also commented on how healthy my gums are now which I attribute to the Waterpik

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,388 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

Which waterpik did you opt for? Do you take it to work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭paulers06

I got the Nano. It plugs into the shaver socket on the light so don't bring it to work. I usually only use it before I brush my teeth at night. Would love one I could bring to work for after lunch

There is a battery powered one which charges up but the reviews on amazon mentioned something about a poor switch.

You can use floss...Superfloss! The ends are pointy so it threads easily. Waterpicks alone aren't enough.

TePe brushes are good, or any bottle brush type device. Waterpicks are good but messy. Personally i prefer the ones with a big reservoir not the hand-held ones.

Waterpiks are getting poor reviews on Amazon. The panasonic ones get a better rating.

Yes, I could sue floss or TePe, but I never used them before so I can't see myself keeping it up and superfloss looks like a lot of hassle for me. If the electric ones work I'd prefer to purchase one of them and save time. Refilling and mess are not really a massive concern for me. I just want something that I know I could continuously use and I don't see the solution for me being floss. :(

Power chains OUCH....Bit confused my ortho said he couldnt close the gaps until the next visit when he puts on my lowers....but he put a power chain across my top teeth where the gaps are???

    Wow, looks great.

I'm thinking about this (at age 40), but very squeamish about any dental work. It's just my front two teeth are problematic (one is slightly inward, the other slightly outward), but I already have one tooth missing on either side so no extractions would be needed, i.e. the front 6 teeth on top would need realigning, with an existing gap on either side behind these. I'm hoping that makes it simpler/less painful/cheaper.

When I went to the dentist, they passed me to onto experts in the UK, and they said I've a slight over-bite and need the lower jaw re-aligned to improve my bite (you can imagine my response to that!) If I could straighten the front two teeth on the top, I'd be well happy.

A dentist in Ireland passed you on to an expert in the UK or were you in the UK anyway??!!

They look awesome, congratulations. Got mine off 4 weeks back and still can't get used to them. Automatically avoiding certain foods as brain still thinks braces are on!

Was well worth getting them done :)

    They look awesome lia!

I'm gonna say something about my braces. Yup its fab my teeth look straigher.. But the last day at my tightening I got a bit pissed off with the orthodontist.. I'm skrimping pennies together to pay for us and I was in and out in 5 minutes.. But when I asked what intradental brushes would be best and what size should I buy his answer was whatever you think... Annoyed me...

It's so frustrating isn't it? I hand over €250 every 4 weeks and I'm often in and out in 15 mins. I know this is the norm but still! I feel like I should get more time for my money!

Wow...braces are expensive. Considering how expensive they are, would people not consider Implants or Veneers?

I need work on my front teeth, I have gaps and a deformed tooth but I don't like the idea of having to wear braces for years.

Keeping your own teeth is a lot better than the other options.

Implants are for life, braces are for a couple of years and tbh with some many adults now getting them nobody bats an eyelid

You're dead right. I don't know why I was so worried about how they would look. Nobody else notices or gives a crap about my teeth! I was obviously very self involved and self conscious to think that everybody would be concerned about them
