That day will never come Stan. It's easy make it with the majority of your cattle in the shed til this morning :o But extraordinary times have called for extraordinary measures.

I am happy that I made the right decsion to keep them housed til now instead of letting them out and them ploughing to their bellies. But there again I was in the very fortunate position to have had enough silage to have even me that option.

It's ironic that the IFJ and the likes were almost calling lads fools and wasting money by putting it into making silage. It was grass grass grass. Now, to my mind, they are doing a total U turn and you couldn't make enough of it!

The contractor says "what the fuuuk has got into you, at this hour of your life"?

I duno about the IFJ, but Teagasc in fairness to them have always stated in their fodder calculations to work out what you need for your typical winter length, then add on an extra months requirement! I know this because I remember reading it last yr, and naively thinking a whole months supply extra is probably abit excessive :o

Quick question here about plastic on the side walls of the pit, few lads have told me to make sure I put some on beforehand to help seal the sides, my dad said he tried it before and it's a waste of time, plastic moves always while silage being put in. The walls have safety rails along the top so not as eaay as just firing it over the walls and leaving it there. Anyone got any ideas, or is plastic on the sidewalls even worte while?

Grass racing ahead at moment, going to take a paddock out next week, if its racing ahead do ye clean out the paddocks there in now or just a light graze and move on, new to this paddock set up

Graze out where they are and skip to paddock that's just right for grazing and then cut the ones you skipped.

You may find that when you are finishing the paddock tht you may have to take out 2 instead of one. Usually you skip to the next one with the cover you require and take out the strong ones.

How much fert do you go with after cutting, next 2 paddocks are two, 4 acre blocks prob will subdivide and graze half and cut half of each, serious growth last few days

How much have you spread to date?
    What's your sr?
Do you need more silage or will you have enough?

Grazing paddocks got slurry and 1 bag 10-10-20 to acre to date,
Hard to call with silage, dedicated silage ground is light at moment but was heavily fert last weekend and is coming last few days
Will need grazing paddocks back in rotation in 3 weeks after cutting
