I'm considering that case as well actually. I've (really unfortunately) had to abandon the M1 idea due to funds, and needing a laptop for college next year, so at present, it's between the 350D, DS1, and anything new and interesting at Computex.

The only negative with mATX is that though it has the slots for dual cards, a lot of the time they're only x8. With the 350D, if you want to add the sound card in the middle, with the second GPU in the last two slots (4th and 5th) you're limited to x4.

What about the Corsair 350D. Perfect for a matx dual gpu setup. Even enough room for dual 140 rads.

I really want one of these.

There's a few boards that will do it. They aren't the cheapest though.

That's true. I'd forgotten about those. They're pretty damn expensive though, and usually use PLX chips which add latency. I'd just like a board that offers x8, x1, x8, x8. (though only two x8s would be usable at any one time). Dunno if that's electrically possible though.

2 x 780's with the reference heatsinks would look very well in an all white and silver build silver FT03, maybe with a white PSU & cables.

or maybe a Lian li PC-V355-which has 4 PCI slots, so in theory you could fit 2 cards:

Some of there deals on gpu's where not bad last year but yeah in genaral not good.

Yeah their GPU are often good value especially since their shipping rates are cheap.
Just for example an 7850 for €137,66
I know the cooler on it is not not the best but still great value.

Yeah they have a generique range which are pretty cheap - not sure whether they just have random cards, though reports of people getting sapphire cards. Think the 7950 was €230 earlier in the year

How would a SF Amazon 650w (bronze rated 80+ rating) and a z77x d3h board fare with dual 7950s? In terms of power I think I'm just about within reasonable limits (I have a 3570k as my CPU and my current 7950 can run at 975 - 1000mhz at 1v which I assume cuts down in power).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Legit Reviews came out with 641W for dual 7970s (925MHz, dunno if that's stock or not) and TPU got 525W for the peak draw for two 7950s. Both figures, as far as I can tell, are from the wall (545 and 468W respectively through the PSU), so you should be perfectly fine.

Should be fine I'd say, I probably wouldn't do anything crazy like run furmark on both cards and a load test on the CPU at the same time but for general gaming should be well under the PSU limit.

Ya. Tbh, I'm not very much interested in the Crossfire, but that 7950 on Amazon for less than 200 quid is mighty tempting. I can easily sell it if Crossfire doesn't suit me. I'd like to see how it OCs vs my Sapphre too :D

In all likelihood, though, the order will be cancelled due to mis-pricing.

Most likely we'll all have shiny new 650 ti boost editions, I would call it a misquote and not a mis-price :P

Is there something fishy with the 7950 in the BA thread?
The pic I see on amazon is of a 650ti.
The 7950 should look like this

Yep there is a mix up, if i get sent a 650 boost il be sending it back - after lots of argueing that they should send me the original product!

You shouldn't expect to argue with Amazon. Their customer service is fantastic. I've had great experience with them (not just electronics).

Will you be dealing with amazon or The Tech Lodge who is selling the item?

Bought the one supplied by amazon for the extra pound or so over the other one!

Ah I see the amazon option 2-4 week dispatch time. It's a long time to wait to see which card you get.

Yeah it is, but reckoned there would be less hassle getting a refund if it doesnt work out

Back in November I ordered an LG IPS monitor and it had a 3-6 week dispatch time. Was ordering it to have in time for Christmas but low and behold it arrived 2 days later. Was most likely luck of the draw but with Amazon you can easily get a nice surprise.

So what are the chances of seeing a flurry of board reviews on Monday along with haswells release ?

    Very high, most likely.

In fact, it's as likely as seeing a flurry of Ivy boards on Adverts on Tuesday. :P
