I've seen two schools of thought. One is to go for extremely practical things: nappies, wipes, talcum powders, baby towels and all that. With babies the parents never have enough and with some spare ones lying around it can save them in an emergency and help them on the money front. The other idea is to ignore the babby and buy a gift for the parents. Everyone will be asking about the baby and not them and they have a lot of pressure: seeing themselves as parents first and people second. Toys work if they have other children. If that's the case then the older child will go through the excitement of a new brother or sister but can start to feel left out and jealous, a present for them can help cheer them up.

All this depends on how well you them and their family.

I shall bring the suggestions to the group, thanks <3

Date night in a box: a couple of beers, nice bottle of wine, sweets, popcorn, cheese, olives, a DVD and a note written on fancy paper from a local 'white witch' saying a spell has been cast and the babby will be quiet for three hours while they watch the DVD. Although I'd probably do this for some of my friends though, not work colleagues.

I woke up at the crack of dawn today. So I've marinated dinner for tonight and made fruit tartlets and cleaned like a crazy Mofo. Martha Stewart eat your heart out.

There was a time when I'd sleep through a bomb but would wake up at the faintest baby's cry...

There was a cafe near my university that had the best spinach bisque, it was where you absolutely had to take someone on a first date. My friends had a competition to see who could find a closest approximation. It was so yummy... ahh, memories.

Still giggling after a religion lesson in school today. We were reading a story about Jesus as a child and it mentioned that he liked to help Joseph with his work. I asked my class of Senior Infants did any of them know what Joseph's job was. Got some answers....a shepherd, a soldier, a teacher etc. So I said no and was about to tell them that he was a carpenter, when one little lad sticks his hand and shouts 'Ms. Roesy, I know, I know, his job was to help Mary hide Jesus from Hitler'.

Went for a run earlier in the lashing rain, feeling a bit nauseous again but not as bad as a few weeks ago. I'll attempt dinner anyway, bleh :(

I resisted the temptation to create a Debenhams account.

But I bought my foundation despite not getting paid until tomorrow... :o
