Is it only a new issue yeah? Sounds like serious turbo lag ( :pac: ) or an ignition coil issue.

If it's the coils it can be diagnosed in a few minutes. With the engine running, each coil is disconnected and if the engine runs worse, the coil is fine. If the engine runs the same, that coil is busted.

If it's turbo related, it's possibly a split boost pipe or something along those lines but a split pipe would make the issue happen all the time.

EDIT: I see George Dalton was posting on your thread. He knows his stuff and he's near Abbeyleix so not far for you to go.

Description for coil diagnosis not applicable to diesel.

The only code that had DTC on it was DTC #00 and then it had "none" beside it.

There were loads of other things, like PATS key flags etc etc...

All the other stuff is normal the dtc are the fault codes. When it showed none that means no fault codes were logged by the car. Granted a mechanic may be able to get more codes with proper diagnostic equipment. But take it there is no major codes logged. Still a vacuum hose leaking wouldn't show a code neither would a turbo. Still at least you know now its probably more than likely a mechanical fault rather than an electrical. Unfortunately I don't know any mechanics in Dublin so can't recommend anyone.

Better off to strip the car and rewire it in some cases....

    Cue a French car:

And that's why I changed my car :)

French cars... Bane of my exsistence.

You could fix the airbag light on an xantia by just poking at the loom beneath the drivers seat :pac:

You mean the mistake with the 1,000,000 mile runway :pac:

    I also learned that
    • Autos have a clutch pedal
    • The jeeps on the runway didn't need propshafts to drive
    • The cars ran over by the tank were engineless
    • A Dodge Charger could drive through a military plane and come out undamaged....

I need to get out more :p

I would guess that that was caused by the seatbelt buckle being hanging in the door jab and the door being closed on it. Get some Hammerite direct on rust paint and a small brush. No one will notice that there is a small dot of a different colour there :)

Would it be worth chancing VW on the anti-corrosion warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

Cars in now arrived 10 minutes late. Please pass

Wasn't aware it existed here to be honest. Will drop them an email.

It looks like a door jam so I would try it. I'd imagine they will find a way out but no hard in trying it as it is an out of the way part of the car to be damaged. If it was the bonnet or bumper I wouldnt bother but a part as protected as that it's surely worth a shot.

I remember seeing 08 Sprinter vans in 09 rotten with rust..... Wings, doors, body. Almost everywhere

I don't see any marks apart from the usual door shut rub so I'd say it's a chink in the armour....

Merc vans are known for it.

We had a VITO on 01 plates and she was riddled with rust by the time the 05 upgrade came around. The 05 didn't fair much better. Rusted by 07.

I saw a 2012 Toyota Verso on the way to work this morning, with so much water in the rear light cluster, that it was turning green with mould.

Should've popped a gold fish in for impact. :)

It's quite laughable that people let cars that new go into that condition

Popped into Frank Keanes to see about the rust.

"Oh, we don't see many with rust". Despite him knowing the exact procedure to a tee, and the many many reports of Mk5s with rust.

"Err, that looks like the door was rubbing. They probably won't cover that." No sign of scrapes where a door would be rubbing, and the door is perfectly aligned. I reckon this is going to be fun.

He took pictures and sent them off to VW HQ, but I have a funny feeling I know the response already.

If they determine that the paint was chipped they will not cover it. However if they think it was a flaw/contamination during the painting of the car then they should cover it.
I have only heard of a manufacturer repairing rust under warranty once in my life...

Did you get detailing spray for that clay bar? I did my bonnet months ago, and I still run my hands across it in amazement at how smooth it is. It's actually a struggle to get enough of a grip to close it if it's recently washed.

    This. :p

166man went over it with clay and a 100:1 water/demon shine wix the other day so it's already fairly clean but I'm gonna attack it again to get it super slippery.
Wanna do the windscreen too, didn't get a chance to do that last time.
