Only I just bought a new office computer, I would be having this tastily spec'd 190: http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/vintagecars/5093615

I think your money was more wisely invested in the office hardware HiKite ;)
I drove down to view this today, as i've been on the hunt for a good 190 for a couple of months. This is the 4th or 5th i've looked at now, and it does have the advantage of being an Irish car from new, and that means practically zero rust - even the jacking points were almost as new. No rot in the arches, or door bottoms, or the boot. However, that is where the love story ends i'm afraid.
    Colm MCM attached this link

    http://www.affordable.tv/mercedes-190e-swap-for-small-van-or-sell-for-sale-in-kildar-video/

which is for the previous sale, and in it is mentioned a small dent to the drivers door, and that there was a new door to go with the car. The door has more than a small dent, but that wouldn't have put me off. There is a pic on the ad of the drivers side, but its very well concealed in the shade, and the seller made no allusion to it. A dinged door wasn't going to put me off however and armed with this knowledge (which i thought would be a handy bargaining chip) i had a bit more of a butchers. 3 of the 4 door cards have lifted (again a 190 frailty), the passenger chair motors didn't work, the fan was a bit iffy, some of the wood veneers had been home-repaired with glue which had subsequently lifted, a sorry state for what once was a bells and whistles model.
Then the paperwork revealed the biggest clanger - this motor has shed a fair few miles, (not under the current owner afaik), previous NCTs, and scant service history in the glovebox showed the following discrepancies:

    Sept 98 (service) 47k
    Jan 00 (service) 56k
    Mar 10 (NCT) 109k
    Jan 12 (NCT) 70k
    Mar 13 (NCT) 122k
    Current 122k

as an aside, surely the NCT records should throw up a flag when this occurs, but for now the W201 search continues (there is a red model on DD, but its LHD, and Mrs tc20 can't be hacking that)

    oblig car:

'00 Avensis auto, taxed & tested (doesn't mention how long) FSH, 89k, asking €1850. High price, but if mileage is genuine (hey, who knows :D)

This looks good. Are the diesels as fussy about servicing as the petrols though?

Horrific yoke. Absolutely nothing redeeming about them. Not even the price.*

*Apologies - not a dig at yourself at all just at the car, Sorry! :o:D

I only stuck it up for the long test and tax:pac: I hate them machines myself, but it might be of use to someone here looking for a town runabout.

The 'something you'd drive yourself' rule is there to weed out yokes like that :D

Oh I'd drive that alright.... Into a bulldozer and have it smashed into unusable pieces, then crushed repeatedly. An absolute insult to call that heap a car!

Not a good idea in a car made of Tesco shopping bags.... I think I may buy one over the summer and have a laugh with it.

    You game?

Weird thing is, if the missus had one of those vivio (boring fact: vi vi = 6 6, so vivio kinda means 660, which was the engine size) -s, I'd totally rag it around. Wouldn't touch a corsa though.

That's the thing about those little cars. The are great for driving the stones off around tight turns or indeed city streets at speeds below 45mph. Sane with small Fiats and the Daihatsu Cuore.

You'd love what I saw yesterday then.

A Schumacher edition. NOM NOM NOM

I'd love to lock one away for the future

There was a lovely Schumacher edition on DD lately for around €700 the week after her indoors bought the yaris.

Back when I bought the punto sporting, that car had just came out. They weren't that expensive when they were new vs a normal sporting.

I remember a guy near me just out of school got one. He kept it waxed and shiny as hell all the time. While I didn't like its lack of power I always knew it would be fun to drive hard on back roads.
