Spaten Octoberfest is an above average session beer, but for the price, it's class.

Just had two bottles of Odells IPA. Lovely beer. Really can't find fault with any of Odells beers. My favourite brewery at the moment.

Picked up 2 bottles of the Porterhouse's Braon Blasta

I am delighted with my purchase.

Did a comparison of Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout, standard and nitro bottles tonight

The standard pored with nice head but the nitro had very little. It was only after the pour that I read the nitro bottle and it says "pour hard", i.e. tip it into the glass at 180 degrees.

Taste wise I much preferred the standard bottle. Just seemed to have a lot more flavour which was mainly the stronger roasted malt flavour, both were probably similar in sweetness but it wasn't as noticeable in the standard because of the extra roasted malt flavour in the standard.

The nitro possibly had a smoother mouthfeel but hard to really tell.

Had a few bottles of Dark Arts at home recently. I quite liked it as compared to O'Haras.

Also bought a bottle of Wrasslers which I love. Really wish Porterhouse would sell pint or 500ml bottles. Really not digging those finicky little bottles. Might be good for tourists, parties or first timers but I'd prefer larger bottles.

I've cut myself on their crappy caps about 3 times, really annoying, wish they would just go to normal caps

Same here actually! At first I thought the ring pull caps were a good idea but now they're just an annoyance. Surely the fancy packaging costs extra compared to a normal bottling?

sounds about par for the course when you compare any beer in carbonated and nitro'd variety. Nitrogen has no incentive to leave the glass, so the gas isn't driving the smell/taste into your nose as you drink.

It's roughly akin to blocking your nose while taking a drink.

the smaller bubbles of nitrogen to give a smoother mouth feel though.

Had a Mikkeller Arh Hvad last night. I'm not sure I was into it. It kicked of my sinuses halfway through the bottle (I suffer this time of year), so it became hard to judge after that. Might have to give it another go at some stage.

I kinds didn't know what to make of that either. Probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn't keep comparing it to Orval which it is supposed to be a homage to. Very yeasty on the nose and kind of lemonady to taste.

I quite enjoyed his Nelson Sauvin single hop pale ale but I do find many of his beers to be more style over substance and not quite worth the money.

If I want to spend that kind of money on a beer I find To Øl or Nøgne ø to be better made beers and better value for money.

I had a nøgne ø Sunturnbrew last night. It confused me but I think I liked it. Very hard to describe or put a style label on. Big bottle for a 10%er.

I found it thinner than I had expected and sharp. Not good sharp. I've had a few Mikkeller's now and the Cream Ale is the only one I'd re-visit confidently.

I've only had one To Øl, and it was the Black ball Porter. One of the nicest drinks I've ever had, no exaggeration. No porter comes close, for me. I've a large bottle of Nøgne ø porter to try this weekend, though.

I know people who'd almost violently disagree with you on this one.

I think you're spot on though.

Some of his beers are lovely, they really are, but most of them are massively over priced for what they are and not worth the money.

As I recall it was under €10 - more like 8 squid.

Drinking an I Hardcore You at the moment, it's so heavy like a stout or something.

Once you get past the hops there's quite a complex beer under there, and even though the alcohol is well masked you'd never drink two of these

Tonight I have 2x SN Torpedo and a bottle of Northern Hemisphere.

For the more experienced of you out there which one should I drink first ?

Eight degrees sunburnt red, followed by some home brewed whisky aged imperial stout, 8.4%. It turned out very well.

Oak chips soaked in whisky and added to the brew. I posted about it in the homebrew forum a while back.

As good as any supermarket bought larger and with a pretty can. Went down well in the sun. Standard Norwegian fare, brewed by Norwegians for Norwegians.
