The irony is that the EDL are lead by an Irishman of sorts.

So just remind them of that everytime they give out guff. You are lead by a fenian.

So if your Irish your automatically a Fenian ;)

As has been said, EDL are anti Muslim, not Irish. Even the BNP like the Irish these days.

Anyway, despite 1995 and however much the Irish make a big deal about playing England in any sport, there is no England-Ireland rivalry as far as the English are concerned (as evidenced by that fact the match still hasn't sold out even with the Irish buying tickets for the home sections). Those away fans in the home sections are the biggest risk for trouble, but I doubt anything serious will happen. Wembley friendlies are very much family occasions these days.

Don't the EDL like the Irish? Or was that just BNP??

They're not my cup of tea but it always makes me laugh when they're labelled Fascists and the 'Enemies of Democracy', usually by some New Labour MP with a pile in Islington, a cottage in Gloucestershire and a little bolthole in Tuscany ( while also professing to be a eurosceptic )

As inarticulate and oafish as the EDL are, nobody's asked them if they wanted Oldham, Luton, Walsall or Croydon turned into Mogadishu/Lagos/Islamabad hybrids, where was the democracy there? They come from the same strata of society that are used as cannon fodder in the Iraq/Afghan imperial adventures.

Maybe one day the English will wake up and realise who their real enemies are, the Tory Eton / Oxbridge elites and the New Labour Neo Liberal slimeballs, not us or Muslims.

There'll be no problem. Their leader is the son of Irish immigrants for one, so would be odd.

The Irish keyboard warriors like to rise them online also in fairness. I think things will pass off ok, the majority of folks on both sides aren't trouble makers.

The Chelsea Headhunters's an anti Irish group should be watched for by anyone travelling over though. I remember a Crystal Palace fan telling me how he couldnt understand how any ROI citizen could support Chelsea.

Any level headed Chelsea fan i know are just anti-IRA, not anti Irish, Man City and others are similar, it just was never documented as much.

The EDL are morons. The people who think that sport is something worth attacking others over are morons.

Sport should be something that brings people together, and is, for most normal people.

It's like saying that the majority of Italian Americans aren't in the mob, the Headhunters are a faction who still hold significant influence.

most of them don't go to the games anymore or are banned so their influence is ever decreasing, i'm just going by comments from old time chelsea fans on the shed end forum

With all that has happened in England over the past week I wonder should we be worried will the EDL will do anything stupid at the England V Ireland match?

Judging by the atmosphere of hate I have seen on twitter and on other websites I'm worried something will kick off

What does what happened in Woolwich have to do with Ireland ?

The bloke who started the EDL is half Irish I read somewhere
They (EDL) and the others are just a crowd of idiots who like to cause trouble. I dont think they know themselves who they hate
Most of these groups are basically racist, anti black, brown, whatever takes their fancy

Seeing as Irish are the same race as the English, they cant be racist against us for that reason

How the **** did this post get thanked?

I know three lads in the EDL from my school days. Back then they were big Screwdriver fans and all in the national front.

From what I can see, they are fascists and the enemy of democracy. Fortunately they are very thin on the ground and it takes a massive effort for them to get a couple of hundred together. Their demonstration in woolwich probably comprised their entire membership.

As for the rest of your post, in fact all of your posts on this thread, I suggest maybe try living in England before you start pontificating about the place.

Firstly would any of the MP's over there who espouse multicultualism live in these places? Could you see Jacqui Smith or Peter Mandelson living in Handsworth, Barking, Luton or Slough, me neither. Billy Bragg was a huge gobshi*e about keeping the Right Wing out of Barking, check out where he lives on Wikipedia.

And secondly, I was referring to the UK / British public at large ( not the EDL yobs ) when I was pointing out that they weren't given a say as to if they wanted large tracts of their country irrevocably changed ethnically and culturally, they were also ignored when they took to the streets demanding that Blair kept his nose out of Bush's a**e and Iraq.

I actually feel sorry for most of the English, they've no parliament, and they're crushed under the yoke of Britishness, even NI Nationalists have a say in running their affairs. I may not be English but I have lived over there and know enough about the place.

That's very debatable. We're the same colour as the English, but I wouldn't say that we're the same race.

No he was born to Irish parents. Really if they decide to cause bother the fact his parents were from here won't make a blind bit of difference to him he and his followers are morons

He is probably referring to the fact that many considered Lenny Murphy's father to be of a RC background

oh such classy language, such a friendly forum this is. it was discussed that the leader of EDL is 1/2 irish hence he wouldn't be anti-irish, the leader of the shankill butchers who butchered catholics in northern ireland could possibly have had an irish catholic grandfather or great-grandfather, family descent means nothing in political opinions. A kiddie troll? No, i'm a 22 year old Broadcast Engineer, goodbye.
