With all that has happened in England over the past week I wonder should we be worried will the EDL will do anything stupid at the England V Ireland match?

Judging by the atmosphere of hate I have seen on twitter and on other websites I'm worried something will kick off

    Doubt it.

The Irish keyboard warriors like to rise them online also in fairness. I think things will pass off ok, the majority of folks on both sides aren't trouble makers.

The Chelsea Headhunters's an anti Irish group should be watched for by anyone travelling over though. I remember a Crystal Palace fan telling me how he couldnt understand how any ROI citizen could support Chelsea.

They are mainly against Muslims in the uk, The Irish are not really a concern to them.

That being said, tensions are running very high in the uk this week, so a potential for trouble will be there, especially as a lot of the EDL are loosely based on football hooligan groups, who are itching for a fight.

Good policing will stop anything happening

Saw a lot of them singing "no surrender to the IRA" in a few youtube videos.

I know the majority of the English fans won't cause trouble but with tensions a bit higher over the soldier who was murdered, I thought maybe it might spill over into the day of the match.

    Was just askin

The English might boo it down like the Irish booed Sweet Chariot in Lansdowne this year.

Combat 18, were singing that at landsdowne in 96, it is an old refrain of theirs. The context of this match is very different to what it was in 96. There will be no trouble.

Apart from fringe groups causing a stir, remember it's not only the Headhunters who have an aversion to Paddies.

Personally I agree with you though. I don't see trouble in this fixture, the Irish adore English football and all the supporters clubs know that as well, most view them as Bros, nearly every club in the 4 League divisions has an Irish chapter at this stage.

At the Europa League final there were a couple of walloped Chelsea fans standing in the food/drinks area at half time, stopping people in Chelsea shirts and asking slightly aggressively if they were English. One lad tells them 'no' and the Chelsea duo look disgusted until he says 'I'm Irish'. Their attitude changed immediately, and one says 'Ah, Irish. Great! That's alright. I've even seen loads of Germans wearing Chelsea shirts tonight'.

Research the Headhunters, and their involvement with unionist paramilitary groups in NI.

'Pull the shirt off the mick', a game they'd play once they identified the southern Paddy in their mix during a match. They're a different breed to the Millwall animals because a lot of their members work as professionals. Middle to upper class in other words.

English and Irish will be mixed all over the ground with practically no segregation as many thousands of Irish here and in England have bought tickets directly from the FA. There's a lot less anti-Paddy sentiment in England than many here would like there to be.

I wouldn't worry about hooligan firms unless you're looking for a little action yourself. Football violence typically isn't started by gargled up mongs, clueless about going to football (which is the majority of Ireland's support).

If anyone is seriously worried about this game, maybe you should consider either watching it from behind the sofa and peeping through a wall of cushions or just stick to baking scones or grooming poodles for a hobby.

Any Irish who go over there walking round in English club jerseys, or waving tricolours with English teams written on them deserve a good hiding IMO. You are not supporters of those teams but the real fans appreciate the comedy value you provide.

Well Brian, it's the first entry for bellend of the week, and a fantastic start.

The lads coming up will find it hard to top this post's air of superiority and hint of internet tough guy.

    Game on!

English Defense League? is that some kind of trade union for England capped defenders? are Ferdinand, Cole and Lescott involved?

A marginal group who are too afraid to put forward their full views. Foreigners especially negroes are their main bugbear.

Wrong. On the surface they are primarily concerned with Islamic fundamentalism in England and the need to protect English culture from Shariah law. They have, in the past, paraded black and Asian members to prove their non-racist credentials.

Underneath that they are racist thugs who will take a scrap wherever they can get one.

The Klan under Duke also tried to reform and parade black members to prove it, Culminating in organising a rally to support Barack Obama as the Dem candidate in 08, to them a woman candidate was far worse than a black.

They're still a bunch of racists, especially considering in modern day that no one person or entity controls the KKK, it's split nationwide into different factions and Duke's words mean nothing anymore. Worryingly also membership is growing at a rate not seen since the 1920s.

Of course whites should have a representative body but I don't want chapters of the Klan speaking for me.

I don't think there'll be too much trouble at this match. The Troubles are over, policing at games is much better now and the far right in England don't seem to care about the Irish anymore. Expect a few arrests/scuffles but nothing for the tabloid press to get their teeth into.
