    so what ? !

if he invited KJ Choi around for a curry would that be racist ?

    the world's gone mad

Or Thomas Levet for some Frogs Legs

    as an aside,

the amount of anal retentiveness in this thread is astounding!

some "expert" on BBC 5 Live last nigh said that 'fried chicken' is equivalent to using the N Word in America. She said it goes back to the plantations where the slaves only source of protein was chickens, and they used to fry them because it was the easiest way to cook them. And that the fried chicken reference is a reference to the slaves being lazy, spending their time cooking and eating their fried chicken instead of working.

As if Garcia knew about this !

Just goes to show, if you dig deep enough you can probabaly find racism in everything

Are you being ironic with your class slur?

What class would that be, the "Footballing Class"?
Really don't see the point in this whatsoever
The point was to try and prevent you from getting an infraction due to the way you were posting.
It may be expected that footballers hurl curse words at each other, it is most certainly not expected of golfers.

If its still not clear (to either of you) take it to PM.

It'd be awkward probably because Choi is from Korea and they don't really eat curry there.

Now if you'd said you were going to invite him around for some braised dog that would probably invoke some analogous racial stereotypes.

Its still racist. That it was an off the cuff attempt at a quick quip, shows that unrehearsed, his instinct was a racial link when grasping for a line about Tiger.

Its not what the definition of racist says to me when I look it up

If I did offend anyone, I apologise

    Is that you Sergio? :p

Seriously though, I find Sergio's explanation/apology disingenuous. I'm not a fan of Tiger but Sergio is unbearable. I think most of us could agree that he wouldn't be half as much as a whiner, if only he could pop his cherry.

Try telling that to Fuzzy Zoeller, he destroyed his career and credibility with a very similar remark, and he is a twice major winner!

Turkey is a much safer cuisine for golfer talk!

Have you read Zoeller's full remark??? I'd say not if you think it was a similar remark....

Can people just look up the history behind fried chicken stereotype before they start trying to compare national stereotypes or saying big deal, Tiger is only playing the victim.

Sergio is bang out or order and knows it after all the grovelling. Both tours have a responsibility to set an example but it looks like they'll bottle it. Golf is rotten to the core from the top down with elitism, predjuces, racism, drugs, cheating etc.... IMO it's no different than any other sport with huge financial rewards apart from the fact it's hides behind the usual cliches about honour, gentlemans sport etc...

And there was me looking forward to meeting KJ

It is a racist comment. Not quite on the same level as dropping the N word but fried chicken, watermelons, collard greens etc are a stereotype associated with black people in America. If Sergio wasn't aware of how that is racist, why would he say fried chicken, instead of bacon and cabbage or whatever? He'd also be well aware of Zoeller's faux pas 15 years ago. He has been a silly boy and needs to take his medicine.

I was at a corporate shindig back in 2003/4. Seve was doing the after dinner speech and came around to each table afterwards to have photos taken - it may have been when they had the Seve Trophy at The Heritage(?)

When he came to our table he pointed at a dinner plate in front of us - a half eaten well done filet steak - and said to me completely straight faced "that look like Tiger Woods"

    Hilarious it was.

    This.

I didn't have a clue what it meant when he said it but he clearly did.

"I obviously was caught off guard by the question but I understand my answer was totally out of place and I can't say sorry enough," Garcia said.

"Most importantly I want to apologise to Tiger. I don't have his phone number but I've called his manager. He didn't pick up but I left a message saying I would love to talk as soon as possible telling him how sorry I am and say it was a bad comment."

Can we leave it at that so ?

Could you link the deeper one - is it not just that all black people love fried chicken ? A typical stereotype.

    French and their Onions
    Indians and their Curries
    Paddys and drinking
    English and pies
    Americans and their fast food
    Footballers are rough
Golfers are gentlemen (When a lot are pricks)

Yes looks bad for Sergio - the problem is , all the above are generalities , what Sergio said is a race thing. So not great - but he didn't mean it.

Hard to think Sergio came up with this as a hidden/open slur.

But, I have also heard that Spain is very insular and they have a problem.
Anyway - met Sergio - didn't like him - moved in on some good looking bird (slur word) I was talking to :P (long story)

I guess that is why Borat is so good. It shows how the world does work on assumptions and there is an inbuilt way that some think. They can be raised that way , only when educated can they see how wrong it is. But then dose that make the original wrong, intentional or cultural.

People look at golfers as normal people - they have a very sheltered life around golf clubs and 5 star hotels. They live in a strange world were they have little time outside of golf and very little real life experience and are educated by their media experiences and twitter.

    Again a stereotype. :)

Without getting into racial stereotypes it would appear that the spanish arent the most politically correct when it comes to racial matters-the monkey masks at grand prix, basketballers doing "chinaman eyes",monkey chanting at the bernabeu and now this.

Because I get an email every time there's a new post .
But I am backing out now , there's no point when you are so anti Sergio focussed that you now wish his sponsor to drop him.
That's just a bit Sad to be honest.
    Good luck with your campaign
    Goodnight and god bless!!
P.s. great to see Sergio goin well at Wentworth , be awesome to see him loft the trophy on Sunday :)

There was speculation actually that TM may drop him.
Also, there is an unfollow button so you don't get mails.
