Having a Shepherds Neame Double Stout. Still one of my favourite stouts, even if it's not Irish ;)

For a SN beer I was really impressed with it.

I saw on their site that they do a porter, too. Must hunt one down.

Finally tried a Proper Job. Deserving of the name. Deliciously balanced.

Perlenbacher from Lidl - 6 500ml bottles for €6.99. For what it is, it's pretty good. Still missing the Howling Gale Ale though.

Last night in the Blue Bar in Skerries I sampled a bottle of the Porterhouse's Celebration Stout. Nice little drink. I was amused that they served it in an 8 Degrees glass. :pac: 7% abv. Not my favourite stout by any means, but would definitely drink again.

Fynes Zombier - a light porter with a tiny bit of carbonation.
Hints of coffee and caramel but found very mild for a 6.9% beer.

Left Hand Milk Stout - when pouring you can smell sweetness pushing up from the glass.
Major coffee and milk chocolate flavours.
Very smooth and milky in the mouth.
I really liked it and with a bowl if chilli it went very well.

Mariestads Export. It really did nothing for me, tasted very average.

I had to wash it down with a bottle of Thwaites IPA. A nice amount of hops, just this side of sweaty socks.

Have a bottle of St Austells Proper Job for tonight.

Mariestads and the Thwaites IPA weren't great for me, but Proper Job should set all of that right.

Was in Against The Grain yesterday for something to eat (and a few beers of course!). Didn't have much time so after hearing a lot (on here) about their new house brewer I decided to get a beer bat of three of their house beers, the Stout, the Red & NZ IPA. Fantastic beers and worlds apart from their original incarnations.

Just had enough for time for one more beer so I got a pint of Blindfold from Sierra Nevada, tbh it was the reason I went in there in the first place :)
I wasn't disappointed. Lovely beer, would've liked a little more time to sip it and enjoy the complex flavours. Definitely be going back for more sometime. Got a taster of Flying Dog's Double IPA while talking talking to the bar man. Wow! Hop Bomb alert!! Definitely a beer for the end of the night!

The barman also recommended a bottle of Monteith's Radler Bier for the OH who wanted something light. Great choice. Would make a fantastic summer quencher.

And finally, when I got home I cracked open a bottle of Rogue Double Chocolate Stout. Pleasantly surprised after the last couple of of disappointments from Rogue. Lovely complex, rich, tasty beer.

Had a Widmer Brothers Pitch Black IPA last night. It's nice but more a stout than an IPA. I found the hops fairly mellow but overall the beer was still nice.

Also had a Dungarvan Mahon Falls followed by a Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye, to compare.

The Mahon Falls isn't great. I'm not sure exactly why but I just couldn't get into it, didn't fell like there was enough maltyness and it was missing something, maybe too much bitterness coming from the rye and not enough hops. I'll probably give it another go but wouldn't be pushed.

I'd had the Ruthless Rye before and like it although it is very bitter (If you trying a couple leave this until last)

Had it on tap at the Fran Well Easterfest, the lingering aftertaste was so strong it had a serious effect on the next beer!

Was the barman a short chatty kiwi guy?
He's always pimping the monteiths beers is young Tar.

Tried this tonight; my first Black IPA.

    http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/emelisse-black-ipa/148236/

It did have very prominent stout qualities, and it was a good drink. Not sure what I was expecting, it smelled like an IPA with much more of a roasted scent, of course, but when I tried it, I couldn't get any IPA identity off it, until the aftertaste, which was slighty fruity. Good, but I'm interested to try one that tastes more like an IPA. If that makes sense.

No he was a Dub (I think?). Although, when I was in the Salt House last summer there was a Kiwi guy pimping some other Monteith beers, which was the first time I'd tried them.

Finally had a pint of O'Haras Double IPA in the Bull and Castle on Friday.

Very nice, very drinkable despite its high volume (7%/7.2%?).

That said I would probably rate Brew Dog's Hardcore IPA a bit higher than it.

Was a tad disappointed that, especially considering they have an O'Haras loyalty card system there, they didn't have Leann Follain on tap. Bottles of which were going for a cool €6.20.

Places seem to have the regular stout on tap, while this (in my opinion) far superior stout is rarely found on tap, and in many places not at all.

I agree - LF is much better than the regular stout. Against the Grain have LF on draught, as does the Palace Bar on Fleet St. In ATG it's around €5.35 for a pint so it's not too bad. The Palace is closer to €6.50.

Picked up 2 bottles of the Porterhouse's Braon Blasta* this afternoon. Looking forward to trying them later in the week.

(* I refuse to put the superfluous síne fada in "blasta"! )

Had a Widmer Brothers Nelson Imperial IPA last night.

Very tasty. Started out slightly sweet but rounded into a lovely flowery and bitter hop finish.

got stuck in to this stuff last night, first few sips i kinda found the abv a bit overpowering to begin with, but the favours were not long in opening up and in no time i was knocking it back like water,a fairly decent session beer despite the strength, the flavour hides it well.i think the bargain price may be due to the fact that its last years marzen, the bb is Aug 2013.

Had a bottle of the Mikkeller/Brew Dog IPA You during Game Of Thrones last night. Quite a nice beer. Still had the BrewDog hoppiness but a bit more depth behind it than usual. Wasn't sure starting out but was loving it by then end.
