Anywhere from 5ft out from box struggle to get 1mb on galaxy or iphone. At moment upstairs directly over horizon box getting 0.08 mb download and 12.99 mb upload

Thanks for that, you're right, same with some BBC HD programmes. I'm not picking up any 5.1 anywhere. I have the movie HD pack, and in just getting 2.0 channel sound. I did try to fiddle with the audio setting in the Horizon settings but no joy...I'm hoping that its the box, and not just me

Go into audio settings and enable the Dolby AC3 output.

Tried it, still 2 channel. Do you have 5.1 signal?

Mr Gooey sir you are a legend! 5.1 restored! Something else...does the box take an age to turn on from standby?

    Indeed.
However I would be slightly concerned,
a lot of the bugs and issues that seem to be coming up here have been seen and reported in Holland and Switzerland in the past. One would think a lot of those issues should have been ironed out at this point.....

Installed the new Horizon box during the week and have been gradually working through the various options.

    1. Broadband / Wifi - no better, no worse than the previous box which was poor enough. Wifi drops off within 10m, cable connections are fine. I had hoped for an improvement but it seems not to be!

It is assumed that you will configure your router via the TV. I had to phone to get the IP address of the router and the password. It was regarded as a somewhat exotic request by the person I spoke with.

    2. TV - great picture quality via HDMI but had to phone to find the code for the TV. There is no guide enclosed in the package despite references to it. It seems that they include a DVD in Holland.

    3. Interface - looks great but slow and fussy and laggy.

    4. Remote - biggest piece of rubbish in a long time. Range of no more than 1m and only if you are standing directly in front of the box. By doing gymnastics you might find a sweet spot with a greater range but "good luck with that". And.. yes.. I changed the batteries! This is going to be a major annoyance if I can't get a solution!

    5. Customer Service - fine when you get to it but the knowledge of the box is not particularly deep. Had to wait for 1 day to get the box activated after delivery and that and some other stuff necessitated 5 phone calls - waiting time ranged from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

It is very slow to turn on from standby. Still trying to figure out the best standby setting. Also,it seems that the hard drive never shuts off fully so you will hear a low level hum even when the box is in standby!

Got a generic email which mentioned something that might be of use to those having problems with the remote.

Apparently it uses WiFi to connect to the box. I checked and was able to change channels from upstairs.

Well, I can use my Galaxy S4 to change channels via infrared, so there must be infrared as well.

Infrared is used as well as wifi connection!

The current keyboard remote is RF with IR for the TV volume, TV power and TV source.

The old remote Was IR and you can still do everything that used to do using a harmony remote, Samsung IR etc etc and if you still have the old remote it still works.

    It is NOT wifi!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 ortelius

Thanks but... as far as I can see, this is exactly the same as the material sent with the box and adds nothing.

It does not provide any information on TV codes.

The pairing button is NOT necessary for the remote, it is for the keyboard. You do not have to pair the keyboard to use the remote, otherwise every user would have to have wifi, 'cos the keyboard is wifi.

Now.. you can get all the info you need by visiting the Dutch or Swiss site but why should that be necessary?

I had my hopes raised for a minute... went out and dug out the old remote...

    Alas... nothing!

Must depend on which box you had previously.

Got Horizon box and very happy. Interface is better than old one, no issues with remote and picture quality is definitely better. Haven't been able to find four things at the one time to record yet. Phone and Internet still not working on new box so I have splitter and am using old modem for these with no issue. One question! UPC have not asked for old box back and we've connected via SCART to bedroom TV in order to watch stuff we had recorded previously which is working fine. Is it possible to use this old box as a decoder for my free to air satelitte dish which I use in the bedroom or to link with the existing decoder to record from this source?

Got my Horizon box installed on Saturday. Got it installed by a technician. So far I am having none of the problems that you guys are having *Knock knock touch wood*! :D
No wifi drops, no prob with the sound or the picture. Getting the full 50mb from the wifi.
Pretty impressed so far. I love the interface. Very cool and theres nothing really that compares to it. Its miles ahead of the old interface and having being a sky customer in the past I think it is far better then their HD interface.
Menu's take some getting use to but in time I'd say I will be flying around it.
Have not had a chance to mess around with playing media from my phone or laptop yet but will probably get around to that during the week.
