Banning of all religious talk in AH would be a start. Can't get a page into a thread without a mention of the church.

    Agreed.

Abortion threads is another that I'd like to see the end of.

•Turn the ****ing Swear Filter off!
    •Stop closing so many threads.
•Allow imbedded pictures that are relevant.
    •Tumb down button.
•Anonymous "I think this guys trolling" button. 10 clicks on same post equals automatic mod review.

People are entitled to their opinion on abortion and religion. This is a discussion site after all.

Dedicated threads for them, I don't have a problem with. It's when it's in the middle of a thread, someone dragging in the church or openly mocking theists, it gets very irritating.

"Thinly veiled" should be added to the swear filter.

If I get an infraction for saying something and then someone else comes along and says the same thing but nothing happens to them, then where's the consistency of that?

I'd like that selective modding sorted and for it to be more consistent.

If only one thing gets implemented its got to be this!

Thinly veiled is long gone and there was a poll to get rid of it. Thing is if you keep giving into this thinking that people can get rid of anything they don't like then the list will never end because we don't all have the same sense of humour.

Everything dies out naturally, three fiddy was more annoying imo, but it died down a lot with no hassle, same as thinly veild.

Drawing more attention to it like wanting to get it banned will only spur people on to use it more.

Well give an opinion on the religious or politics forum. After all if someone starts a thread about something in Dublin it's usually swiftly moved straight to the Dublin forum.

Clarification on whether making fun of thread title errors is okay or not would be handy

Grammar Nazism is not allowed. When you have 20 or so posts pointing out a mistype, it really is thread spoiling. Maybe a report and we can adjust the title.

Ban threads on the dole or have a dole forum. Just for the dole. Nothing else.

Ban posters who say stuff such as "three fiddy", "blast with...", "thinly veiled...", "your ma". Don't warn, just ban. Waste of reading space.

Keep threads open and let them run their course unless something is said that will put Boards in a spot of bother.

    We want your feedback! ...
NB: This is not the place to appeal your bans or infractions.

All feedback is welcome and will be taken on board :)
That would make AH unique. The last couple of times I tried giving Feedback, not in AH, have a look at what happened.

The reality is mods do not want feedback and will not take it on board - they will use every stratagem available to them to discourage it and attempt to silence and discourage the poster. Have a look at what is happening in general Feedback.

I generally love After Hours, I think its the cream of the crop on boards tbh.

A place to have a laugh, joke, or a serious discussion, it all more or less fits in here perfectly.

I do however hate the 'wannabe facekickers', as in folk who think they'll become a legend of the boards by creating stupid threads to 'go down in history' as a legendary troll or such.

I think, in an effort to combat both that, and spambots etc, a minimum post count should be mandatory before one can post in AH.
    Second most of this.

Perhaps not so much as a minimum post count to post in AH but rather a minimum post count before one can start a new thread. Might make it a little easier to spot those who simply sign up to troll. There are quite a few current threads started by very new regs that simply seem to court controversy or seek attention.

    Mod:

Do not post in this thread again thank you, we want constructive feedback.

Maybe stick some of the bigger issues in to some sort of mega-thread

The amount of threads started an hour after the topic has already been discussed is another.

I'd also argue that far to many threads are derailed, they start off discussing x but end up talking about y.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

ban every single person who brings politics into certain discussions when there not needed and completely off topic. really pisses me off!! apart from that its all good :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

Can I also suggest changing the threadtitle? You're much less likely to get any serious feedback on this thread if the title itself is, for want of a better word, ropey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,079 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

    Done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭harney

Be a little stricter on the..."There's a forum for that folks"... button. It would be one way of reducing some of the irritating threads as people might put a little more though, and a lot less trolling into what they are typing if they are move into the appropriate forums.

It's an important part of society.

It'd be like saying ban all talk of war, economics or politics.
If you don't like them then don't post in them.

There are Forums for those topics but the sort of posts that fly in AH wouldn't be always suitable for the relevant forums. No harm having a more relaxed set of rules in one place.

I think AH is mostly grand.

The mods have to tread a fine line between leaving **** go and not letting people completely take the piss. Everyone doesn't agree on the line they take but if everyone's slightly unhappy then they're probably doing a fairly good job.

Something like AH needs a light touch. Having too many rules would be the death of this forum. Leave people fall on their own swords.

I've never understood the rationale for banning txt speak yet highlighting poor spelling, punctuation and/or grammar is frowned upon. Fair enough if it is a minor mistake in a post (Heaven knows I make my fair share), but some posts are just plain illegible. Plus given that most browsers have spelling and grammar checks and phones with auto-correct there isn't many other reasons other than laziness.

There are a lot of politics related threads on AH at times - what is the distinction between those threads which are at home in AH and those which should be in Politics?

Only feedback I have is to say this place is a much better place to post in than it was 2 or 3 years ago. Nice one! Thank you!

I got annoyed on this thread. My rant is post #8, and also #15. Reading them now, I am nuts.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80950587

My point is that Celebs and Irish people die = no jokes.
But anyone else on the planet = jokes and puns, gag city, one big joke.

I started a thread about the lack of clarity on this issue on AH, and in fairness a Mod was correct to lock it, obviously it belongs in Feedback. Before the lock, a few replied, and basically said if an Irish person died, his family/friends can read the thread and of course be upset about it, makes sense. I wouldnt like my family member abused on boards.

But a celeb? Why are they not allowed be abused to bits??? Its ok for any member of our government past and present to get abused, and seriously personal abuse. Mary for instance springs to my mind.

From what loads of the veterans who've been here years have said it seems to be the opposite

I get what you're getting at inmyday. However I think we have been working toward closing the loop there.

For example recent unfortunate tragedies like the Boston bombings. Posters worked well with mods to report posts and the lads kept everything on an even keel. Having the entire community work like that to keep the thread going was great. It's why I post in after hours.

Now with regards to jibes at politicians, say for their appearance etc., nasty personal stuff... Well that's actually something we have to stop also. So frequently these posts to get carded or posters get banned.

If and where you see the posts, report them. Criticism is ok, but just insults is not.

I'm really sick and tired of all the threads to do with Northern Ireland related topics. I think it might be better to give it a forum of its own. It's just the same old arguments time and time again.

Very few posts are illegible in my experience and the reason the grammar Nazism clause is in the charter is becuase it was happening on a daily basis and multiple times. Mostly pulling on small points to try and belittle or flame a poster. It happened enough that it needed to be addressed.
