How long in general does the horizon sign up email take to come through

I received an email confirming I was accepted onto the trial on the 12th of April, and then received the details just today, so in this case about 4 weeks.

Got the email to sign up online, the email bundle price is €63.50 and when you click the link to sign up it's €68.50 because they include phone. I don't want or need UPC''s home phone service!!!

The pic switches to an over all light blue, almost inverted image now and again. Sometimes it fixes itself, others I had to pull the HDMI and plug it back in. Switched the box to RGB to see if that fixes it.

I found switching resolution from 1080p to 1080i seemed to get rid of that but I had it on for only about 30 minutes after doing that so may not be long enough to make sure it's resolved, will see later.

Last week when I rang up I was being pushed the 83e deal, got another email today so I decided to try my luck again. This time I got the same package I'm on today. No price change which is great, but speed increases from 25 to 50. Box is being delivered tomorrow, self install.
One thing to note, I was told on the phone it was a 12 month contract, which I questioned, 2 minutes later it was no-contract.
Sorted. Let's see how the self install goes.

Just rang UPC about the trial, if you don't currently have phone in your package you DO NOT have to take it when signing up for the trial as this WILL put you in a new 12 month contract.

Just be careful as to what you are signing up for, if you do opt to order online it will automatically include phone as part of the bundle

The install was pretty quick, only took about 15 mins. Most of that time was waiting for the box to be provisioned. Haven't had enough time to play with it yet.
Engineer says the box automatically has broadband for the included apps (whether you have broadband with them or not). But only for the apps, you can't use the internet via laptop etc unless you're subscribed to BB.

Got mine today, opted for the 100MB package, can't wait to get home to see what it's like. I have seen people mention streaming from a device to the UPC box, is this correct. I am currently using a Raspberry Pi with XBMC and I am just wondering if this is now going to be obsolete. Also, does anyone know if you can hook up an external HDD and play content off that onto the Horizon box?

Twonky is the app to stream stuff to the box, I beliweve there's an IOS and Andriod app.

I have Apple TV , so can't see any extra beenfits as I can currently Airplay everything

Not sure about external HDD but it works off a DNLA NAS but there were some buffering issues at times but that may be down to networking, I haven't had a chance to sit down and configure it fully yet. Also USB is disabled on the device so you won't be able to plug it into the Horizon box

Does the box come with a new HDMI cable?
Currently have old box connected with a scart

Probably been mentioned already but was just wondering what internal IP is on wireless broadband portion of the box?
Is it in the same range as their default for existing wireless routers?

Yeah the box comes with a hdmi cable.

I had my new horizon box installed today. Took them an hour to complete but too be fair it was their first one. The reason it took so long is they were trying to pair the box with a smart card and the new horizon box does not require a card.
Loving the box so far. Menus are much quicker and nice to have the cable tv box and modem in one.

Now all my HD channels have gone, called UPC, they told me its just a case of rebooting the box. I told her I'd be cut off if I turn the horizon box off, she said you won't .... I was! HD channels did not come back after the reboot. Losing your phone and BB when rebooting the box is going to be a pain for UPC and customers since the first thing they tell you to do when you call is turn off the stb! Keep your old external modem! Once you get passed the fancy menus Horizon has massive flaws ...

What time was your install due. From my install today it seems to be taking the engineers longer than normal to complete as it is new for everyone

No, I can't see an easy way of seeing that or how to change day on the guide. I'd check the RTE2 HD pause but all my HD channels disappeared this afternoon.

Yea, I've changed from 1080p to 1080i and from Auto to RGB ... so far the light blue colour hasn't happened again.

Still think the PQ on the old HD box was better for SD stations.

Has anyone had the box delivered by DPD yet, do the couriers take any of your existing equipment with them or simply deliver the new box?

i got into the trial but email today says order online. No phone number to ring. Not clear if I can choose self install. I am 100mb/100mins at the mo and got email recently to say I'd be going to 150 mb and 150 mins. With my current bundle its currently costing me €86 but new bundle will be 100mb/100mins and €78. So not sure what to do. Presume I get the €90 off either way?

    ANyone else get this?

Yeah i got the same email. Someone earlier in the thread said they rang UPC to keep their existing phone bundle. If you're happy to go with the new bundle simple sign up online. If you don't want to sign up to direct debit, put in an incorrect account name in the payment details section, the order will go through but you should get an email asking to fill in and sign a DD mandate form.

Thanks I already pay by dd and with myself logged into the upc account , it still wants me to reenter details. crazy lack of intelligence in their system
