Gay people just do it for attention or to rub it in peoples faces , like those pointlessly camp ones who never shut up about it you have to watch what you say because everything is turned into a stupid inuendo, and before any of you attack me i don't give a **** about gays iv'e even been with a guy myself

    Are you somewhere feeling lonely?

    Why is the Sky Blue?

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light.

Has anyone rubbed it in your faces, lately? If so, how did it make you feel?

I love the gay pride parades. I think it's great. Only 20 years ago, homosexuality was a criminal offence and members of the LGBT community have been (and often continue to be) oppressed in many ways. The Pride parades are an expression of defiance in the face of people who try to make members of the LGBT community feel ashamed of who they are. I also think they mark a transitional period in civil rights - after a long period of oppression, comes a period of overt pride, and then finally complete normality. It's an important step in accepting and acknowledging LGBT rights.

As for 'Heterosexual Pride', every day is heterosexual pride day. Life is a heterosexual pride parade. Being straight has never been seen as something to be ashamed of, it's actually something that is actively encouraged and embraced all the time within society. Straight people are not expected to "come out of the closet" in the way gay people are, as if being gay is something someone is obliged to "confess" to. Straight people don't get bullied, murdered or sacked for being straight.

What purpose exactly would a 'Heterosexual Pride Day' serve other than to belittle gay pride? It's the same thing you get when people say "Why is there no white history month?" Stuff like gay pride are responses to violence, discrimination and oppression over generations. Middle-class white males equating these struggles with their own petty insecurities and dualistic views of the world completely trivializes those struggles. Maybe you should be asking yourself why you think you really need 'Heterosexual Pride Day'? Is it because you actually believe that heterosexuals are being oppressed, or is it just because you feel a little bit uncomfortable with members of the LGBT community not feeling ashamed of who they are?

Can you imagine how that'd go down? Especially on boards.

Hopefully with eye contact, depending if Boards is male or female.

I assume the last paragraph is aimed at me, since I started the thread. As I said many times, I am not homophobic. I have no problem with gay people. I never said that heterosexual pride day was needed. I just asked how the gay community would feel about it. From the answers, it looks like it would be very welcome!

If you could come up with a good reason why you might need/want it, it would be very welcome. We might even join in - assuming it was any use.

Again, I was only asking. If nobody can come up with a good reason after 15 pages then I guess there is no good reason.

Since this thread seems to have attracted the attention of some homosexuals, can I ask another question that I have yet to find an answer for?

I'm just going ask. If gay men like men, then why do drag queens dress up as women?

Because some men like men who dress up as women.

    </obvious>

Also, if Gay Pride day is a day when homosexuals can walk down O'Connell street expressing their sexuality without fear of being assaulted for it then I guess every OTHER day is Straight Pride Day.

Ok, I see. So they may like the gift wrapping but be disappointed to find a woman when they unwrap it.

First off, I am in now way homophobic. I have wondered though what the reaction from the gay community would be if there was a heterosexual pride day where people marched on the streets and shouted their joy to be straight? If it ever happened, would those involved would be seen to be anti-gay. Again, I would like to stress that I am not homophobic. Would just like to hear opinions.

I have often wondered the same, I'd love if there was one, i'd imagine there would be outrage tho.

PC bullsh*t would rule again - just like women getting the same prize money in GS tennis -PC BULLSH*T

Can anyone join in the LGBTQ Pride Festival parade and express their sexuality?

Also, I notice it is called the LGBTQ Pride Festival. The Q standing for Queer. I thought that homosexuals took offence to that word. Has something changed?

LGTBQ is actually short for LGBTTQQQAA*

One Q is for queer, the second is for questioning and the thrid is a typo... the star is not a typo or an asterisk pointing to something else... it's part of the name...

Edit... that wasn't inclusive enough so also see QUILTBAG.
