Dublin some weekend asking people questions from Shenmue to see what the reaction is. :-P

just make sure you're not on George's Street if you ask someone if they want a game of Lucky Hit. they might take it to mean something very different.

Not 'exactly' retro. I'm a big Pat The NES Punk fan. Already watched all the episodes with and without commentary.

My last purchases for a while.

Finally got an official megadrive 6 button controller. Got it from Retropolis, delighted with it.

Also got the Castlevania game everyone hates, Castlevania Adventure. I'm probably the only person in the world that actually likes it.
nah... I loves me a bit of castlevania adventure
    it feckin hates me though!

This was shipped out on the 2nd or 3rd And it arrived this morning from Japan. How the f*ck did it get here so quick when I'm still waiting on 2 mega CD games from the UK which were ordered before this?! Anyway It's princess tomato and the salad kingdom. I know it's all text based and I can't really play it but it cost next to nothing!

Just bought a €150 paperweight, sorry I mean PS Vita!
Got Uncharted, hooray, and Reality Fighters, boo, plus a 4gb card.
It's a bit scratched on the back but otherwise fine.
Gravity Rush and Wipeout are all I really want on it though.
I believe Ridge Racer sucks donkey balls though, pity...

Of course it does, its not RR1/2 after all :P 'Grats though on the Vita, going to pick one up at some stage myself...though I kinda want a 3DS XL too.

Mine comes with a puny 4gb card, but assuming the format is hacked, I look forward to larger cards that won't cost more than the device cost me!

Ridge Racer, yeah, there's a series that has struggled to be relevant since the PS days. It's as if the cool lines of RRtype4 were created and they figures they'd never have to evolve again.
I like RR Unbounded but it's not a Ridge Racer game, just a good game with combat, joining Blur and Split Second in my fondly thought of but seldom played part of my get library.

When you say RR2, are you referring to the arcade only game or Ridge Racer Revolution, easter egg tastic that latter one.

Ridge Racer 1 & 2, as in the arcade games {basically the same as each other too}. I never enjoyed any other in the series tbh, they just seem bland & generic whereas the original 1 & 2 had a certain charm to them

Wasn't the big difference the addition of ar a view mirror?

There was little to beat gazing in the window of Mr Calculator at Ridge Racer playing on the imported PS.

There were few prices higher than the sums they were charging as well, if memory serves me right!

Yeah as I mentioned, they're essentially the same game. I think the soundtrack got touched up for 2 aswell.

Again, call me a heathen, but the PS1 port is fairly poo compared to the arcade version. The System 22 board, though similar enough to the PS1, is able to push a lot more numbers about. The results are a much less smooth game on the PS1

Well, that and it was a launch game, most of us, at the time, had never seen such a game outside the arcade and it looked plenty impressive.
I think has it been released 18 months on, with a better understanding of how to optimise the game code, we would have seen a product far closer to the ideal you describe.
Certainly my franchise favourite, Rage Racer, took the arcade template and made something that blew me away at least.

Sadly, I have nothing but spite for the N64 version and the awful DS port. What were they thinking?

    Welcome to the party pal..
Tis not a paperweight there's at least 3 gamez worth playing on it.
Assins creed is an ok game but if you've played the console versions you'll be disappointed.
Need for speed is probably the best driving game on it and a must buy.

I would have avoided reality fighters cos it is beyond gash. Do not get little devients under any circumstances as it is rubbish.

Uncharted is ok I guess, the games always felt like you were barely in control and this changes little.
What it does add is the damn stupid motion controls from the first game.
At least most of them can be bypassed with button presses.
Gravity Rush is downloaded thanks to ps+ and I've a few other things downloading like Wipeout HD/Fury as they are already on my ps3.
But games do seem a tad thin on the ground.
I'd say Sony will be pushing them along with the ps4 in the none to distant future, along with a price cut.

That reminds me, emulate a system 22 board on my TV then try ridge racer with my racing seat.

    Thanks EnterNow!

    Viva Nonno ftw :) Not sure how System 22 emulation is in Mame these days, but Viva Nonno had it pretty much nailed & well optimised {no dount inaccurate emulation but very playable}

Actually I'd probably try it in PSXMame, although I'm not sure there's a Linux version of it.

It's a nice Mame app that uses ePSXe plugins in order to emulate boards based on the PSOne.

It emulates Tekken 3 / Tekken Tag rather well in my experience.

Your choosing to emulate the PS1 version over the arcade original?

I did actually like Rage Racer, though again the originals had more of a 'seaside resort' charm to them imo, similar to Outrun. Its obviously subjective to how one played/experienced them though

No no... it uses the ePSXe plugins for video and audio and uses them to emulate the System 22 board.

Do a Google search for PSXMame and you'll see what I mean.

Ah I see, its for emulating PS based arcade stuff in Mame.

Boards based on the original PSX, yes. Does a better job than Mame's own plugins.

Still sounds like Zinc etc would do a better job no?

For seaside kicks, Ridge Racer Revolution and Outrun 2006 have all the rays I need, until this 90's racer comes out, hopefully we'll see it on the consoles.

    I received these this morning:

Thunder Force III, Thunder Force IV
Both Japanese. Both in good nick. Both brilliant games. TecnoSoft forever!

    TF.jpg

    VV / V.Five / Grind Stormer Soundtrack
An unexpected surprise. No, I realised I bought it, what I didn't realise was the little goody inside. The disc is mint and comes with the usual refinements, spine card, reg card and so on. But it's the other little details that make this one so nice.

The booklet, although B&W throughout inside, comes with lots of information about the game and the people who made the soundtrack. It also has printed score sheets so you can play along! Best of all though is the mini toresetsu packed inside the booklet. It's double sided and is just like it's arcade sibling! Oh and the cover art is reversible so you can swap it round if you want.

    I think it's a great little package.

Robbit Mon Dieu aka Jumping Flash 3 TGS '99 Special Version
Nothing outlandish about this 'special version' of Jumping Flash 3. It's just a demo disc from the Tokyo Game Show 1999. Nice collector piece though I think for a fun game. Love the first two games too.
