For a test I put "gay pride ireland" into google images and this was the third image shown - now if gay people wanna have a parade, so be it. But I cant help but feel that if a large number of men and women were dancing down the street, half naked in a parade that WASNT anything to do with homsexuality ... the police would be called or the parade wouldnt get permission in the first place. It would be classed as "indecent", right? But yet that image above...

So there are double standards at play.

Are you basing your opinion on all gay-pride parades on one photo of four people, taken from a showbusiness website which would obviously highlight attention-grabbing pictures? I don't really see much wrong with what they're wearing. Maybe I'm a shameless libertine, but I don't think any adult would be arrested for wearing that in a parade.

At least it wasn't the picture of the old man in the assless chaps though.

    PS. Don't google "Rio Carneval!"

I've often said in work that white heterosexual males have the worst of everything. Cant be racist against a white person, or sexist against a man, or sexist (or whatever it is) against straights. We just have to take whatever life throws at us adn cant complain. I'm in, lets have this parade.

    What obnoxious, self-pitying nonsense.

Do you live in fear of murder, acid attacks, starvation, physical and verbal abuse, and disenfranchisement because you're a white heterosexual man?

Can you tell me from where you get your assertion that white straight men can't complain about any discrimination against them? Who's stopping them, and can you give me any concrete examples that show that white heterosexual men are the most discriminated-against group on a global scale, and they are having their freedom of speech denied?

What does a strip joint have to do with a gay bar? They're totally different

White hetero males are just afraid of losing their position of privilege. 2 out of 3 ain't bad...

You go out one, freakin', time, in your "cassual wear", and does the Internet ever let you forget?

Just steer the whole lot of them into one 'Attention Seekers Parade'

    Job done.

I half agree with what you're saying but isn't it some what ironic that they want to be just like everybody else yet feel the need to highlight their difference by having a day dedicated to it?

When you consider that just 20 years ago, being an active homosexual was a criminal offense here; it's not surprising and definitely not ironic that a day is dedicated to it. The stigma surrounding homosexuality is still very real though, despite laws becoming more modernised.

And besides, it's not (as far as I view it anyway) really even about 'pride' per se. It's more about not being made to feel ashamed of their sexuality, and a clear message that they are not okay with being marginalised in our society.

To those who honestly believe a 'straight-pride' event is the logical reaction to gay-pride events, ask yourselves the following - a) What is the opposite of pride?, and b) Have you ever been made to feel that way because of who you're attracted to?

This is it. Have ye never been in any built up area in the country the weekend after the Leaving Cert?

I think the Pride parades or Pride festivals have evolved. It's more about celebrating the gay communities around the country that do a lot of good work for gay citizens - through organizations, helplines, suport groups, student groups, trans equality platforms etc.

I know a lot of gay people living in rural parts of Ireland who don't often get a chance to socialise with other gay people. Going to a Pride event in Dublin or any other city or town that hosts them is a great opportunity to meet people. I've been single for ages and I'm living in a city where I've only had the opportunity to meet one other lesbian in all my months here.. I'm looking forward to going to Dublin Pride because I want to hang out with other gay people in a fun atmosphere for a few nights! And maybe pull.... oh god I better pull!

And Junior Cert night makes Dublin look like a production of Caligula in Beirut in the late 70s/early 80s.

    What about a SCHWAM parade?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

No. In the UK both will be available to gay/lesbian couples. We have no idea what will happen here.

How about a day to recognise the "over 50 but not getting any" community???

We're far and away the biggest group in the State and I'm sure we could get cross party support from Gay & Straight people, as it affects both

This comes up every single year when Pride parade time comes about. I look forward to the year that it doesn't, because that will be the year that the parade will have finished serving its purpose, because instead of people thinking they should get a parade too, they will be confused by why LGBT people would have had a parade in the first place.

But my point is it's actually about equality regarding rights, same as the million man march, not "we're the same as everyone else". They are celebrating the fact they are different.

Until laws reflect equality for all, they should March until their feet bleed. Sick of oppression because some clueless backward ****wit doesn't understand it.

There's a lot of hot air blown about gay people not being able to adopt... when unmarried biological fathers don't have automatic legal guardianship to their own kids.

That's much more of a civil rights issue than two guys trying to import some orphan from Chernobyl.

So maybe you can hold off on the abusive 'clueless backward ****wit' remarks for cheap thanks?

I like to call it the "everybody's welcome to the party" parade! I'm straight and I've never had anyone say to me "Oh you can't be part of our parade". It's more about a celebration of diversity than it is any kind of "LGBT people vs straight people" silliness.

Where do these hetrosexuals get off, why do they have to flaunt their hetrosexuality everywhere, I think its wrong. Keep it behind closed doors, we don't need to know your sordid secrets, next they will be looking for marriage laws and the like, fkuking clowns.

Yes, of course we should ban Gay adoption because fathers have limited rights.

    That's totes what I meant.
