    AFAIK you cant.

I will have a good poke around when i get it installed but the lack of bits that i can mess up is the main reason why my current router is still going to be the head honcho of my network.

I just got mine now there too.

    * Disappointed that I cant pair the remote with my cheap Aldi Tv :( The old upc box remote didn't work with it either but there isn't away to even let new remote alter the audio output form the box itself, which you could do with the old remote:(

    * the EPG is very confusing and despite looking prettier- requires ALOT more buttons to be pressed, going through menu after menu. Before, although it was slower, it was very simple. All the icons and stuff is a bit confusing I think

    * I was very excited to see the keyboard on the remote, but for some reason its not very useful - If I wasn't ed to search for example grand designs I have to first go into search, the type in grand, BUT THE SPACEBAR DOESNT SEEM TO FUNCTION IN SEARCH So I have to scroll through a load of entries before I find the programme I want.

    On the good side-

+ one box, one set of cables, One more free socket :)

+ Wifi appears faster ad definitely has a bigger range

+box is MUCH quicker, no more waiting a few seconds everytime you press a button

+ The remote has a hugely improved design, although still not as natural to use as a Sky remote in my opinion. Keyboard might come in useful too

+ you can install a special app on laptop and play movies and music from laptop and phone to the box. I have a windows phone but I should be able to play music to the box using DNLA.

I don't think it's your tv,I can't connect th RC my tv,but could with the previous one.
Also can't get the keyboard to work either, well I can connect it,but it drops the connection 2 minutes later.

It was the TV.... BUT! After spending about 2 hours online I found a code that worked and it works perfectly for the remote. now the horizon remote can turn on and off the tv, work the volume etc. Thanks be to god because the Aldi remote was desperate altogether.

I got the same email 3 times and couldnt see any link to order either option. Click on 'view online' and there is a link to order either package.

My email is a gmail account viewed with firefox and the link to order for the 2 package options wasnt visible to me in gmail.

    Still no email.

I'm starting to think UPC is deliberately discriminating against we whose surnames start with "W". Me, the Xyongs, Yzquierdos, and the Zyskowskis are getting together and starting a (very, very small) lobby group. Take that, UPC!

How do you get it to switch on tv? No instructions on guide.

The guide is confusing at first, I liked the bottom station surfing, not sure there is an alternative.

Do you have to get new wiring with this box? If so Im cancelling my order, just had the whole house replastered, with the wires stuck into the wall.

as for channel surfing- press the back button to bring up the channel bar at the bottom of the screen and then you can scroll through different channels by pressing up and down- as opposed to left and right on the old boxes.

I dont know why they dont allow you to just press left or right to channel surf- those buttons dont seem to do anything at the moment...

No new wires had to be run at mine- Took less than an hour- he checked some wires in the attic- Then swapped out the old box and put in the hoizon box. A few minutes angst as it didnt seem to activate but they sorted it out with a quick phone call.

it recognises content from ipad and phone,
    Phone worked fine.
broadband is 55mbps- which isnt bad on a 50 meg package :)

Dunno what happenend with yours man :(

I asked the support lad on Twitter, and he said "This option isn't available via the Horizon set top box"

Wouldn't take that as gospel, no offence to the guy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,046 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

Technically he would be correct, You're doing it via a webbrowser on a device networked to the box, not the Box itself.

    Was thinking that.
Might just go ahead and get them to disable my router when installing. See if I can get it to work.
If not, get the router back

Just had an automated call to say installation would be Thursday afternoon.
Does it really take 1 hour to unplug the box and plug in a new one

There we go, signed up. My router and my tv box are in different rooms so that's going to be some pain as my router is connected via ethernet to a few devices, I image I might be able to replace the router with a switch and connect the Horizon box to the switch?

Connect the Horizon box wirelessly to your existing setup.
