Nice. Probably over my budget :( Maybe a South African T25 Bus with the 5cyl Audi (Turbo !) engine in it would be nearer my pocket

Depends if you are handy with an angle grinder and a welder or not! :D

That crowd in Austria are talking €95K+ which is silly money.

There are Boxsters to be had for €5,000 or less for a damaged one and you can sell off all the body parts to recover some money.

Buy a Boxster for £1,000  ( Wheeler dealers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDR5QG0VkDc ) , put in Beetle headlights and tail lights and buy a nice cottage with the change from £95k

There was a South African Bus with a 5 cyl engine on DD for ages cuz he was looking for silly money for it!
The last T25 was made in 1992 ish. The South African Bus isnt a T25 - looks and smells like one but very little from a T25 will fit to a South African Bus. They are very different!

Tell me about it :( Maybe the doors might be the same, but immediately I noticed the larger side windows, bumper line ........

Bought a similar looking door handle off a Sunny for my 280Z, inside was totally different. Recently bought later model taillights to 'update' my current everyday motor - bulb holders on new lights smaller than old ones :o:o Will have to 'modify'them - in time !! ( Or sell again !)

All the classics are coming out of hibernation here now.

I saw this outside a local DIY store today.

    WP_000666rs_zpsfa70087d.jpg

When I got home my 6 year old daughter had been dropped home from a birthday party in a Caddy Eldorado convertible which her friends dad has just got back on the road after a major engine rebuild, will try to get a photo one of the days.

There must been a British classic car meet somewhere local over the weekend as I saw quite a few buzzing around, tastiest was a Jag XK (120?) fixed head coupe which passed the house, gone too quick to get a snap.

    Yesterday, at Vantastival.

And sure, there was loads of classic metal there, but this one stuck out as a sore thumb

At least it's still going strong

Outside Joe Headon's (RIP Joe) on Hill St - mecca for yank fans
( Joe broght a Plymouth Wagon out to me one time " You might need to do the brakes on it " - there was a vise-grip crimping one of the rear brake hoses, and no brake shoes inside the drum :eek: :p )

My 3 year old would love that...:)
He's mad into Cars the movie and this isn't a million miles away from being "Sheriff" or "Doc Hudson"!

Can anyone recommened a good degreaser, I've always used Jiser but the current type is useless.
It seems the active ingredients have been reduced because of pollution.

I absolutely love the DS. I have done since I first saw one in the early 60's. I was only a kid, but it has made a huge and lasting impression on me.

Yeah, they are pretty spectacular in the flesh, this is Jims 3rd one and it always gets good comments when he is out.

Wish I had that sort of timeframe to do jobs in - most restos take years / abandoned :(

Bought the car, over the course of two days stripped it and made a list of parts required, cills, scuttle panel, indicators, trim, sound proofing, paint and loads more. Got the order in to Ecose straight away, arranged a date for the welding withs Jims brother in law and penciled in a slot for the painting. At least one of the two of us were working on the car or parts of it from 9 til about 8. By the end of the second week the car was sorted mechanically and prepped for painting. As the doors, boot and bonnet were sprayed first it allowed us time to work on the body, the gallinavised chassis was excellent, two of the floor panels need a bit of work which didnt take long. The key to the fast finish was that we were able to be there almost full time and tried to keep a couple of aspects on the go at the same time. Also sticking in a comprehensive list of parts early meant no hold ups.
    Would love to do another.:D

You should have film'd it for 'Wheeler Dealers' or 'Texas Car Wars' - woulda made the cost of the resto back from film rights ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭mikehn

Damm, I should have thought of that.
This one though was a piece of cake compared to the last project which was a Classic Caravan restoration, that one came in around the four weeks as well, 7 days a week, see the link. only diff that time was that both of us were there together most of the time but we did everything ourselves.
