Most are kit cars, not too many original cobras around.

Aye. Not too shabby for a car from 1976, though.
    Listed Colour; Brown
    Listed Body Type ; Saloon

So changed, I'd wonder would insurance cover anything if it crashed, or would they take the "boy racer modified car" line? A topic for another thread, maybe?

Yes please leave that conversation for the many other threads on those subjects.

    Seriously cool looking car.

Probably not an issue, I don't see a disc on the windscreen ...;)

Probably had one nicked before and keeps it in his wallet for security. Idiot cousin of mine used to park his MX5 with the top down  and then stuck his parking disc under the wiper ( to be nicked :P:P )

It costs a fortune to rent one of those yokes, too. Not sure, what Retro-camper are charging, but another crowd was charging somebody 480 EUR for 3 days.

Not my cuppa tay ... and definatly not at those rates.

There's a lot of work carried out on those vans (Retro Camper and the 'other crowd' (I assume Lazy Days?)), both restoration and maintenance. Well earned I'd say.

I know, what sort of work is involved. I've got old VW's myself. Just think, it's a lot of money for renting one and I don't think they're that suitable for camping really.

They're not really unsuitable, they were built for camping after all, but I agree, there are better modern options (rental rates on T5 California anyone?). The thing is that people just want to experience camping in the original VW campers, then they jump in and drive them 'til the dash lights come on, and then keep driving...

I think I know as well as you that the most economical way to do it is to buy wisely and sell up when you're done. Free camping. :D

Great day for Mosney, just a few gripes about the display format, because as I was driving out I saw all the trucks over to my right, didn't even know they were there and as for trying to organise your route thru the displays they were not in rows that would be easy to navigate, there were I rows, L and H displays so you though you'd covered it all THEN you saw another display ! Maybe signage and ground markings because the red/white tape prevents good shots of the cars -

Saleen S/Charged Mustang - wasn't impressed by sound when he revved it, too quiet

'Army' LR - with WH reg ! :P

    UR Quattro - rare beast

2 bays, and saw another blue one (WIO ?) in town later

Is that a Dialynx SWB Quattro or an original SWB one ? I'd say a Dialynx Quattro. Still, a very rare car.

    II

El Camino - nearly bought one of those in Beaumont years ago

    Camaro - the dog's b.....

Volga - THIS was a body mounted on a Lexus / Audi frame - it was RHD with leather interior

Crown - lovely rust free example, probably had the built in fridge in the boot

SSI 910 - Reg is right, BUT, plates are wrong ( original plates were Quinn style but stick on letters AFIR ), they were 2.8L or GL badging ( the card says 2.0 engine) . If he fixed the plates, badging and removed the plastic wing aerial (and the engine?) then he'd be getting there

Some VERY clean motors. Plates on the Anglia are Polish made/font I'd guess ??

Transit I and Ital p/u ( Morris 575 ) were super immaculate - the Northies seem to keep/restore their stuff to a higher standard

The SWB was only ever available from the factory in LHD although I think David Sutton may have converted some to RHD it's most likely a Dialynx recreation.

I chatted to the owner at Mondello last year, and the engine is a 2.0 because this was the Garda Commissioner's car - all the other Granadas registered in the sequence were 2.8's and were all crashed/rammed/written-off back in the day, but this one survived because it was only doing chauffeuring duties and was too slow for real patrol/pursuit work.

Yes, the plates are wrong, and should be black pressed aluminium with red/white film background, but those look good all the same - better than ACE or Europlates for example...

With all due respect to all - I have reservations about SSI 910 ever being fitted with a 2.0 from new. All these 'police orders' would be run off the assy. line and it's bloody unlikely that the Commissioner of the day said 'Let's save fuel, I'LL have a 2.0 please' :P In fact, AFIR, the Commissioner was driven in a black Granada Ghia , and all the blue SSI issue were Special Branch hi-speed cars  I'll get the chassis no. next show and run it to see what it's REAL spec was - 'D-Inspector' Capri

The particular SSI plates weren't pressed like the old Quinn ones, they seemed to be a flat plate with red reflective tape and thin film letters applied - these letters wore off after repeated car washes -

There's more real police history in this RUC Capri 2.8i than SSI 910

..... the slam panel plate or chassis plate as it’s sometimes called. This contains even more information about the car.

    http://www.turbosport.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=11896&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1316902108

The plate will have a few boxes on it with information in them. Here is a breakdown of what is contained in them and what they should say.

The DRIVE box, this should have a number 2 in it, which means the car was originally manufactured in RHD. It could also have the letter B in it as well which means the same. If it has a number 1 or the letter A in it the car was originally built in LHD form, even though it might now have been converted over to RHD, so look out for this as the car might be an import from Europe.

The ENG box has two parts to it. The first part gives the cubic capacity of the original engine and the second part is the type of engine (eg 1600 CVH, Fords never did a 1.9 turbo or 2.1 ZVH from the factory as you know) The engine code for a CVH is L. The RS turbo car should also have a second plate on the slam panel that says F for turbo on it or even the words Turbo. It should be the same colour as the car.

There is a third box which is called TRANS and it should have one of 4 letters in it, on the RST it should be W for a 5 speed manual gear box. The other letters are T for a 4 speed manual gear box, Q for an MTX type gear box and X for a CTX automatic gear box.

If you can get a look at the chassis plate, check the motor box - NE for a 2.0 pinto or PR for the 2.8 Cologne. Also look at the trim box. If the code starts with A, it's a black car, F for blue and Y for "Non Standard"....
