Then Crossepg started to crash so I gave up and flashed a backup of my own HDMU 10780 which is rock solid.

I've been using 10780 myself for a good while now, can't remember the last time it crashed or pink screened, everything works as it should.

Eventually I want to try out Enigma but first I'd like to set up a 7 day epg on Spark on my Alien 2 if nothing else so I have something decent to revert to if any Enigma things I try don't work (which seems likely from what I read!)

So I am now trying to get crossepg working on Spark for free to air channels from my Sky dish. I don't have a subscription card. I DO get a full 7 day epg for saorview terrestrial channels that I receive through the terrestrial tuner but for satellite channels the epg only shows what programmes that are going to be on for about the next 7-8 hours.

I tried "reloading the epg now" and a full reboot as well as downloading from OpenTV several times. I tried formating the USB key as Fat32, NTFS and Ext3, I only select the Open TV Sky 28.2 provider. I'm using Spark firmware 1.2.63. In the crossepg configuration wizard in the "info about the db" menu item my 'Total Size' field is 377kb. Is that small? Maybe my Alien 2 is just not downloading all the data needed for a full 7 day guide.

    Cheers,

    Flex

Admit defeat and go with Enigma2. Over the last 20 posts, you will see that there are two very stable e2 images right now - HDMU v10780 and AR-P.

Remember, the box has dual boot so you can build both images in parallel. However, it shouldn't take you too long to get e2 up and running with everything working the way you want it.

Is it possible/advisable to mount a network drive (on my NAS) for storage rather than a USB drive as per Pog's instructions?
If so how do you go about adding it?

Does anyone have any experience of doing this or is everyone using USB drives?
    Thanks.

In AR-P (could be in hdmu too), in networks settings, network browser, when it lists available samba shares and you mount selected share there is a option to use it as a local drive, i.e. for timeshifts, I'd imagine nfs would be a more performant option for such things.

So silly questions, I have HDMU (think it is 10780), Is it worth upgrading and if I upgrade do I have to to start from scratch with all my settings again?

An upgrade will do just that. However, take a backup via Spark so that you can very easily flip back if you have any issues with a newer version

I'm just finished setting up my Samsung M3 1TB USB drive with the box. Can I ftp the old recordings back onto this drive (I've copied them over to my pc). If so..should I send them to root/movie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 426 ✭✭FlexMcMurphy

I have an external USB drive with a bunch of movies I recorded from the TV using another satellite box. I've found I can plug that USB drive into the Alien 2 and watch them... didn't need to ftp anything to any particular folder cause you can navigate to the folder they are stored in from the on screen menu.

    Hi lads,

Been playing about with dreamote and another iOS app.
Find it great when connected to home network to set recordings etc

Is it possible to connect to it from outside home network, through 3G or wireless elsewhere? So I could set recordings while out.
Also can I stream to phone in same manner?

    Thanks in advance

No problem doing this. You'll need a DynDns and then something to keep it updated. UPC Cisco routers can support updating a Dyn DNS account.

You'll need to forward the port on your router. Don't think the UPC router allows this though. There are lots of threads on here about people bridging it to add a better router for this reason

some one suggested no-ip to me? will this do what i need?

i have an zyxel eircom router, i have a bit of reading to do to understand what im at!

    thanks again

Port forwarding perfect on the UPC Cisco epc2425.

Phobia, I use no-ip but have an update script running on a Raspberry Pi. Eircom router may restrict you to DynDNS.org

Ah, apologies, it's the fact that it doesn't do UPNP very well that people change them. Consoles need this to automatically open ports

You're not going to get any help without giving more info. What software is on the box? Is it a box fault or a signal fault? What channels are freezing? Why can't you get them back?

Since setting up my new external HDD with the Alien I am having problems with Crossepg writing the epg data to my NAS drive rather than the attached HDD. Recordings write fine to the drive however. Can I alter the db location in the Crossepg config file (hdd/media) to point to the usb drive instead?

Got it fixed by editing the ../etc/enigma2/settings file ( line/setting config.misc.epgcache_filename) as mentioned here

My struggle with crossepg on Spark continues. For some reason it never downloads a full 7 day epg for me but only about 6-8 hours worth of programme listings and even then, listings do not appear for all channels. I'm still working at this because apparently it does work for some on Spark so maybe I'm doing something wrong

Here are the first few lines of my crossepg.log file. It gets created in /root/tmp of the Spark OS after crossepg runs to download an epg.
    02/05/2013 22:30:13 CrossEPG open 20130222
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 EPGDB opened (root=/root/tmp)
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Clearing old aliases...
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Loaded 0 aliases
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Adding new aliases...
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Completed
02/05/2013 22:30:15 Started OpenTV events download
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Reading dictionary '/var/crossepg/providers/skyuk_astra2_28.2.dict' ...
    02/05/2013 22:30:15 Completed. Read 512 values
    02/05/2013 22:30:20 demuxer_index 0
    02/05/2013 22:30:20 Read /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0
    02/05/2013 22:30:20 Reading channels...
    02/05/2013 22:30:31 Read 909 channels
    02/05/2013 22:30:31 Reading titles...
    02/05/2013 22:35:37 Maximum loop exceded
    02/05/2013 22:35:37 Read 243 KB

I think the line "Maximum loop exceded" is indicating that crossepg is not downloading all the data needed to create a full 7 day EPG. The following line: "Read 243 KB" should show that several MBs of data were downloaded.

Using Filezilla I can see a 'crossepg' folder is created on my USB drive. And that folder contains four files with their file sizes:
    crossepg.aliases.db
    18bytes
    crossepg.descriptors.db
    52 Kb
    crossepg.headers.db
    313 Kb
    crossepg.indexes.db
    36Kb

I wish I could contact the Spark developers for the Alien 2 box. Can anyone give me their contact details or shine any more light on my issue? I haven't tried a factory reset yet.

Any chance any of you good people would boot into Spark and update to firmware 1.2.63 and see if you can get a full 7 day epg working?

    Cheers.

    Flex

Sorry guys as i said Im a newbie at the Amiko Alien. How do i even check what its running? Also the stb is very unresponsive to the remote control along with the picture freezing issue. Yesterday i was just changing channel and the whole screen went pink and it eventually sorted itself out after five minutes.

The fault is with the box as my other tv which is hooked up to a ferguson ariva 150 is working 100%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭championc

    Hi Ronan

If you flashed Enigma just once, then we all found that it needed to be flashed twice in the first instance before it's then working well.

It was discussed at length ..... only about 50 pages back LOL

    Hi Flex

Do yourself a favour and go with Enigma.

Anyone else missing TV3/3e when using the OpenAR-P image?

I rescanned last night, saw them appear in the list while it was scanning but they didnt then appear in the channel lists...

Edit: stupid of me, found them in the all list!

I have them fine Zefer. I've also sorted a few other things so I'll make a new image over the weekend and give you a link to download it.

The only thing I need is AutoTimer - everything else is working

Was trying to get wifi working on my Triplex last night and while moving the unit to peak the signal it fell off the shelf .
It landed on the ground with a usb drive in the back and now the rear usb wont work anymore .
It looks fine but must have shorted or something ,I may have to do some diy .
