First of all I was been smart. I thought he had no experience at all in the game. However he confirms later in his post he has. I know of one lad (a bricklayer) gained that got gis and gid by been unemployed and provided by fas. I do not condone that.

secondly a lad like that I applaud. He has a stabile job and just wants to update his knowledge in the game he was trained. I did a GIFF course and found it to be great for fault finding. I would recommend that course to you. You have experience . So you will have no problem with that course. You will meet people there that may be take you along with them. The company I previously worked for paid for my course. But there was plenty of knowlegable and experience gas tech lads there just updating their skills.

Best of luck to you. Maybe you could highlight what area you live in and you never know . You might get a pm. You be surprised.

qbe gust wondering what a giff cource is and where u done it no metac do a domestic servicing cource wondering is it worth doing

its basics if you know the ins and outs of boilers and have a lot of experience working on them. However I picked up simple things that I would not have really thought off. Really helped simplify procedures.

I only went on it because the company I worked for insisted on it (and paid) as well as the gis and gid. I can say if you done the gis and gid . it will be of great benefit to you. I did it with a lad called martain. Great fellow. I thought I was good until I met him. Ill pm the company to you as I don't believe in free advertisement.

    @ paddythefarmer.

The best fault finder for any boiler is a mulimeter. after that knowing about combustion.rest is basics. if you are a plumber. that's why it annoys me when candlestick makers and ice cream men obtain these certs. as its not basics unless you are trained via an apprenticeship.

Is there a solid fuel boiler using a gravity coil? I've seen some with cyl and boiler at same level with one up one down piping set where the solar heated water was gravity feeding from cyl in reverce back to stove.

Also check that hoilday function is not activated this will heat dump but would only cool bottom half of cyl.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 paddythefarmer

no solid fuel when looked at nothing running the two times i called but pump cut in a few times in a short space of time tried to get instruction manuale cant get so wondering does any one no about this type of controller

Also check the T1 readings. Faulty thermistor can give false readings & bring on the pump. Also check location of T2 thermistor. If positioned too high, it can also react to 2nd coil temperature.
