After my good round in portarlington yesterday. Brought back down to earth today with a visit to water and a 4 putt for 28 points :)

    One of those days :-)

34 points in Carton House O'Meara yesterday. A 7am start after my boy's birthday party on Saturday resulted in a bogey, bogey, birdie, double bogey start. Rallied well after that and played well enough in tough conditions.

30 points off 15 in Killeen castle yesterday, 11 points on the front with 3 consecutive scratches on the last 3 holes, at least was able to get it going on the back 9, had 19 points coming back and played pretty steady.
First time playing the course, qaulity track I have to say - pretty wide open off the tee but some very undulating greens.

Played Oughterard for the first time on Friday 30 points off 18. Nice course with week kept greens. Greens much slower than home course, with a lot of break as the ball slowed down. Different type of grass or something I guess. Drove well. 200 to 150 yard shots got me in trouble a bit. Pitching not great either which is usually one of my strong points. Not bad for a new course on a breezy day though. One scratch.

Saturday 29 points off 18 in home course Tuam. Drove well again. Putting and mental errors let me down. Don't think I sank one putt from 5 to 10 feet. If I sank half of them the card would have looked much better. Work to do on the mat at home. One scratch.

34 points on Saturday including two blanks on the 2 par 5's :(
had 2 2's and left on the lip for a third, which was nice.

    FIR 33%
    GIR 38%
    Putts 31

Was still snap-hooking off the tee which is incredibly frustrating and destructive.
Had some food and watched the first half of Leinster and then went back out to the range.
Discovered that I'm standing too close to the ball with the driver causing an OTT move (got home at 9pm for a 12 hour day at the course!)

Had a 2 min trackman session on Sunday, 97mph swing speed, +3 degrees, carry 250 with the driver from cold, so happy enough.

First of all I hate you. 12 hours on the course !?!. I'm lucky to get out at the w/e.

Secondly how did you manage a 2 min trackman session ?
Your driver numbers look efficient to me. I'd have a higher swing speed but much less carry. Could be AOA but I'll never know till I get on one I guess

Any tips on how to promote a +3 AOA ?

Struggled around on the first medal of the year to a 90, net 78 in blustery conditions yesterday. Was uncomfortable in that it felt like the Air temperature was warm, but throw in a cold cutting breeze & bursts of rain.

Very happy with my play off the tee box, had a little bit of bad luck with a couple of approaches. Duffed 2 shots, one of which was into a water hazard which was costly, and still not making enough putts.

Definitely guilty of giving slow greens too much credit & over-reading. Also missed a least 4 putts inside 3ft which killed me. 4 short putts made is the difference between buffer & 0.1.

Need to get my mojo back, end of year was putting in consistently strong scores and got a general play cut. Haven't been able to find that form since the winter break.

I suppose getting boozed up the night before a medal is not the best idea either though. :o

Took down the April Medal with a 72 (85 off 13)....very tough blustery and at times wet conditions yesterday morning. Won by two....

    Cut to 11.8

didnt really make any big putts, just solid the whole way around....7271 yards off the tips and played every yard. Had a key birdie on 9, but apart from that it was solid.

9/14 Fairways (didnt feel like that)
    5/18 GIR
    34 putts

    CSS - 76

31 points playing off 17 in Waterrock on Saturday with the work society. First time hitting a ball since October so happy with that. That included 3 scratches. Only disappointment was not sinking 2 very makable birdie putts.

    lol
My feet were certainly complaining about it Sunday morning!

We had a team practice so there were 15 or so of us and he was just checking driver efficiency. I only got two hits in and he said that my driver was perfect for me and my numbers were good, would have liked to play around a bit and get warmed up but was happy to know the club suits. (Cobra S3 that I got for €150 in Halfpenny golf, 9.5 stiff off the shelf)

You can get up to +6 AOA for "max" efficiency of carry.
A couple of the guys saw huge increases, two people gained 40 yards of carry simply by increasing AOA. (Both started out negative and managed to get to +1)
Another guy (kid!) who was swinging at 114mph gained 47 yards by switching from his own 7.5 Titleist to an 10.5 RBZ. He was not impressed since he was just fitted for that down in Carton last week...

Best way to hit up is to get your head behind the ball and tilt your spine away from the target a little. Also widen your stance if its narrow. Narrow stance is a trademark of hitting down on it.

If you occasionally suffer from popping the ball up then you are hitting down on it.

I try to do both of the things you suggest. The thing is I guess I may have a positive AOA but might not be hitting out of the middle. Or maybe I'm trying to do them but not succeeding. I guess a trackman session will help.

I had been measured at 105mph but my carry is at least 20 yards short of 250 I would say. Having said that I have improved by attempting to hit up on it. Of course my 105 may have dropped with all the change I have been making to the swing too.

Shot 96 around Dundrum in tipp yesterday. No handicap probably 25. Played fairly well i thought , terrible around and on the greens. No reason why I couldn't shoot 90 or below before the end of the year if I can improve my putting.

So, this morning I played in my first competition for about 2 years. Probably put too much pressure on myself to get cut down to 9 so I could play in the Junior Scratch Cup this weekend, that won't happen but I'm actually pretty happy with how my round went, only a few mistakes and unfortunately I must have left my short game at home, I failed to get up and down from inside 20 yards on at least 5 occasions. Both my Double Bogeys came after my tee shots ended up right behind a tree, directly behind them so all I could do was take my medicine and play out sideways.

    GOLFSHOT2_zpsa6c75a79.png

    34 Points

    8 Pars
    8 Bogeys
    2 Doubles

Better days ahead hopefully but I will learn from it.

Last game in the sun for three weeks this morning!!!
38 points off 20 in Castro Marim on the Eastern Algarve. Finished the front 9 par, par, par, birdie!Best run of holes ever :-)
Could have been better but couldn't get the pace of the greens!
Those feckin RBZ's are going to cost me a fortune ;-) (Hired from clubstohire.com! )

Had 36 points off 14 in the open at lucan golf club.Played with levitronix. Had a mediocre day. Was happy with my irons and most of my drives but my putting on the back nine was shocking. 3x 3 putts and a 4 putt on the 18th. Shocking. Had 85 strokes. I'm not sure how you finished Barry. Good group in fairness. Bit of banter and all well able to play golf. Cracking golf course too. Some of the holes really made you think about your shots.
Have to do it again sometime!!

Quick 18 holes this afternoon, such a nice day with little wind finally.

    Gross 80
    10 pars
    7 bogey's
    1 double

Managed to have 9 birdie putts but never made one. 3 putt on par 5 too. Better days ahead .....

Had planed a lay off for a while - but look at that weather - stunning on the coast today.

Still taking big divot with wedges, but just committing more to it and is going ok - but still a flaw with angle of attack , most likely OTT.

Driving very well leaving plenty of 100 yrd shots. And 5 Birdie chances today , none in. Was on in 2 on a par 5 and 3 putt :o:P:D

    3 3 putts
    2 doubles.
    6 Bogies
    11 pars

    So going well 81. (+10)

Feel very very close now to a great score - But , it is the card that matters. That was a card towards handicap. :)

I guarantee I could shave at least 4 shots off your score easily...

    Lol.
GreeBo would you coming out and taking shots for me be overstepping your role as mod?

Don't go for other 2 par 5s thanks to yourself. So fair play. But it is hard to turn the titanic, i do not need iceberg analolgy back .

Give us time Greebo. Will take shots off your score
for you in 18 mths or so. All about give and take.

    Its much easier than that....
My suggestion is that you stop playing 19 holes....:D

    ^^^^^

    Fair play Greebo legend mod.

    81 over 19 holes what a score man. :o

10 pars sorry. Me losing the run of myself. I was thinking you were going on about your up and downs again.

    Sorry man. :)

Actually GreeBo , if i gave up the 19th hole, my score would be even better and your life here would be easier:D
