Deadly Afghan Plane Crash Caught By Dash Cam In This Horrifying Video
A Boeing 747 cargo plane crashed just after takeoff from Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan yesterday. There were eight crew members on board, and none of them survived. The entire crash was captured on the dash cam of an approaching vehicle. This is terrifying. It sounds like a shifting cargo load in the civilian-operated plane may have caused it to stall during takeoff. Seeing a plane basically stopped in mid-air for a few brief seconds is an almost surreal experience. It actually looks like the film is frozen.

Once the forward momentum of the plane is gone, it literally just falls out of the sky and explodes when it hits the ground. The people on board had no chance.

    Unbelievable.

    The official press release carried by most US news agencies;

Five of seven people killed in the crash of a civilian plane at an airfield in Afghanistan were from Michigan, an official of a Florida-based air cargo company said Monday night.

The plane crashed just after taking off Monday from Bagram Air Field, north of the Afghan capital. The U.S.-led military coalition said it was investigating what caused the crash.

The Boeing 747-400 was carrying vehicles and other cargo, according to an official of Orlando, Fla.-based National Airlines.

National Airlines was based until recently at Willow Run Airport, which is located in Ypsilanti Township and Wayne County's Van Buren Township.

It is a subsidiary of National Air Cargo and carries cargo both commercially and for the military, Kaufman said. She said it employs about 225 people.

Those killed were four pilots, two mechanics and a load master, who is responsible for making sure that the weight and balance of the cargo is appropriate, said company Vice President Shirley Kaufman.

Kaufman didn't release the victims' names but says their families have been notified.

"It's a very, very hard time," Kaufman told the Detroit Free Press. "We're concerned for the families of our colleagues that we've lost. That's our primary focus."

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority are investigating the crash, she said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the crash, but the U.S.-led coalition said in a statement to The Associated Press: "Taliban's claims are false."

It said there was no sign of insurgent activity in the area at the time. Capt. Luca Carniel, a coalition spokesman, said the aircraft crashed from a low altitude right after takeoff.

National Airlines moved from Willow Run to Orlando, Fla., in early 2013, according to a report from Crain's Detroit Business.

The 79-employee company had sought to stay in Michigan, according to Crain's, but took incentives offered to move to Florida. At that time, it relocated 44 of its 79 employees.

In 2009, when based at Willow Run, National Air Cargo announced the launch of a weekly charter to deliver goods to the US military.

"The flight, operated by (subsidiary) National Airlines, will depart every Friday and arrive in Bagram on Sunday evening with one fueling stop in Europe. The flight will provide the fastest possible route from the United States to Afghanistan -- a 33 hour transit," according to a news release from May 2009.

    From the release:

"This is the fastest possible route from the United States to Afghanistan and no one else in the air cargo industry is currently providing such a service," Robert Schlager, regional manager-Americas, National Air Cargo said.

"National Air Cargo is extremely proud that we can continue our high level of service to the United States military and their contractors not only in Afghanistan, but also in Iraq."

Among some of the materials that will be shipped via air transport from Ypsilanti to Bagram includes equipment such as electrical generators, water purification systems, medical supplies and other materials to help with the expansion and construction of hospitals, sewage plants, libraries and other facilities in Bagram Air Base and around Afghanistan.

Fock that is tragic. It seems the pilot was on the verge of regaining control and just needed more altitude. 8 crew members seems high.

Supposedly cargo came loose and went towards the tail, dragging the weight down and pushing the nose up. They were fùcked as soon as it stalled.

Thread here saying it might have been loose cargo moving around.

RIP to those who died. Sad to watch

I think what he meant was, its very rare for a passenger plane to become suddenly off balance, the likley cause of the crash in the video.

Back OT: Very sad about the people on board, as someone else mentioned maybe a couple more hundred ft and pilot might have had it under control.

Not sure about the load shifting, Normal prop [plane, for the wings to stall, the aircraft will turn with the prop rotation, with an idling engine it will drop forward, without the turning motion.

A jet under full power , you would expect the aircraft to the nose to drop without turning, The sudden stop in inertia and the movement of the nose dropping, stick forward to gain momentum .. the reaction time would be critical, maintain full power and attempt to level out... But the aircraft turn increasing the possibility of wing stall speed.

    more info needed.

Yes, it could. But I've seen some knowlegeable aviation people in other forums speculating that load shift is the most likely cause. But, only after the official report comes out, will we know if any other factors came into play.

Well there isn't a TRAGIC pics and vids forum, so yes, this is the perfect place for it. Stop trying to be an ass just for the sake of it.

    Ugh.

This is one of my worst nightmares. Can you imagine being on that plane? The fall probably seemed like it took forever and you're sitting there, knowing there's probably no way you can survive.
