if its just the clay bar, should be more like 10-15 euro. but you can get other brands for under 10 euro, loads of them on ebay, if your not in a hurry.

It would want to be a veritable brick of clay for that money.
    What size was it?

They seem mostly to be around 200g.

    Eg;

I've used the dodo juice clay kit (€19.99) and it's pretty decent, loads to do a medium sized car.

I'd a good bit of lube left over so bought the bilt hamber clay bar on it's own, seems to be slightly better value than the dodo juice one.

The Bilt Hamber one is designed so that just water can be used as the lube for it...so that makes it a bit more attractive. Although, I'd always add a small amount of something to make it a bit more slick...something like a drop of shampoo or a very diluted lube mixture, just to ensure that the paint is well lubricated.
The cheaper clay bars tend to leave a lot of marring, so it will end up being more work in the long run!

Maybe...unless somebody has bought one of them before then who knows! There's no brand, so it could be any type of clay!
Although, years ago, I got clay from an Irish supplier, it was blue like that, and it was pretty poor clay....perhaps the supplier sourced it from a similar supplier!

Halfords had Mer claybar system reduced to €15 when I was in on Friday.

They have good reviews on ebay

You mean the seller has good feedback?

So they sent what they said they'd send, and on time. That doesnt make the product any good! ;)

Have a read of this Auto Express - I wouldnt take everything they say as gospel, but two of the top 3 are what Id recommend, and I havent used the other!

I shamelessly bought one of these:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-180g-Magic-Car-Clean-Clay-Bar-Auto-Detailing-Cleaner-A-/150990372664?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item2327ba3f38

And it was pretty good. I just used soapy water as the lube and it worked well on my wafer-thin Honda paint.

Did you have to pay custom when it came in

How did it compare to other clay that you have used?

I also got that one , but have not tryed it yet ,took about 2 weeks to get here, never clayed before, waiting for a fine day ,no rain, will polish after, you don't pay customs anything ,so it its cheap enough ,and packaging does say 3M.

PS, Can you just use soapy water as clay lube?

    Nope.

TBH I've only ever used that one. But it worked well.

A proper lube will make the clay last for longer, but if your car is filthy and only use the clay once, soapy water is fine. For £3.99 just buy several :-)

Bought some car stuff yeaterday in halfords 13 euros for 1 small meguiars clay bar, anyone know a good spot online to buy 2-3 decent sized bars (already have a storage box for open clay bars) decided not to invest at that price

Also picked up 1 litre of Auto glym super resin poish some meguiars endurance tyre gel and a big jug of meguiars gold class (was gonna go for the Auto glym shampoo and conditioner but decided against it)

    Ahh impulse buying :p

I only want a cheap one. the one Halfords sells for 13 euro seems dear for the size I have seen in store

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

It's tiny, i had a half used one and a new one last time i clayed the car and i dropped both :p

The Meguiar's replacement clay bar is tiny, and is fairly pricey for what you get.

The average clay bar, should be around 200g, and you should be able to cut it into 3 sections, one of which should be able to clay a whole car, provided it's prepared correctly...by that I mean a good wash, de-tar and de-ironise.

How soft and easy to knead to a clean new surface, was it? Did it leave any marring?

I kept a bucket of warm water beside me and when I finished claying a section I left it in the water to keep it fairly malleable. I sprayed a section with warm soapy water then took out the clay and got to work. It was pretty good as long as it didn't get too warm.

No marring on the paint and I'd say it did a good job, even on my thin Honda paint.

I've been using the same single claybar for the last year (megs) on 4 different cars, still working fine.

Is it not loaded with containments at this stage?
