    If the car was prep'd well....all the tar removed, and if a fallout remover was used before hand too, the clay could be used many times, as there would only be minor contamination remaining on the paintwork. Also, perhaps the cars had been clayed only a few months previous to the new clay being bought and there wouldnt been much contamination on the cars.

    Cant say Im surprised really!

    When talking to people, and they pass remark about how they like to keep their car looking well, I always ask if they've clayed their car...the majority of the time the reply is "Huh?" or "Whats that?"....it's the quickest way to tell if someone knows what they are talking about or not! :)

    So, because one motor factors doesn't sell it, and they other has never heard of it, is putting you off buying clay at all?

    Clay is a detailing products, not just your average car cleaning product. As a result, detailing products are often difficult to come by in most bricks and mortar shops...Halfords will carry a small range.

    Should you buy clay? Definitely, yes!
    Should you buy clay off ebay? If you dont mind waiting for it to arrive and possibily getting a below standard product, then yes!
    Would I buy it? No...sure it says 3M on it, but in China there are no copyright laws...would you buy an iPhone replica from China.

    Though its your car, your money, and your first experimenting with clay...the above is just my 2 cents worth!

    I'm really worried if it's a top brand. As it would be my first time I don't want to spend that much. It hasn't put me off buying it just cause the lads don't do it

    You mean you arent worried if its not a top brand? ;)

    Dont forget that you'll need clay lube also, and probably a bit of it too, as Im almost certain the one you are planning on ordering will leave marring marks....almost like you've used an eraser on parts of the car...not really a problem if you plan to do some polishing afterwards!

    Got some Bilt Hamber on the way via cleancar.ie. Look forward to testing it out.

    Any tips? Just water, or warm water with some soap, and if soap what kind?

    I brought one off ebay for 4 euro. I logged onto ebay and found out I had brought the item unknown to myself so I had to buy it

    Yeah Bilt Hamber Auto Clay is designed to be used with just water!

    I always use a drop of quick detailer or shampoo to make it a little bit slicker. Warm water wouldnt do any harm, but this time of year, there shouldnt be in issue.

    Try to stay out of direct sun light if its a hot day, as hot panels might causing heaving marring. Key is the first few times you do it, use plenty of lube until you get the technique down!

    Is it not loaded with containments at this stage?

    Nah, it seems grand and works, doesn't leave marks. Maybe its time for the bin though.

    Worth noting that sometimes detailing products can be just as cheap,if not cheaper,here in Ireland.

    From CYC;

    http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/bilt-hamber-auto-clay-regular-200g-/prod_1161.html

    That works out at €13 BEFORE postage.

    The exact same product from two of our own;

    http://www.detailingshed.com/detailing-clay/142-blit-hamber-auto-clay-regular.html

    And;

    Why the hell are people suggesting buying clay from China???? There's no guarantee that you won't get absolute rubbish. It's a silly thing to do when you consider that we have Detailing Shed and CleanCar to buy excellent products from.

    Clayed the car with Bilt Hamber today, fantastic stuff, car looks amazing and feels smooth as silk. Only used a third of the clay as well. Highly recommended.

    Used clay bar for this time today, the 3M one from china, please with it ,expected it to get dirty,thought it was working until i drag my fingers along the panel i finished and then the one i didn't,what a difference, panel nice and smooth, don't know if a more expensive one will do a better job, but this clay bar was cheap and I'm happy with result.
