I've been using the alien 2 for a couple of months now thanks to the guides in this forum.
I want to try out the AR-P image but the box gets stuck on boot and won't load,
I can successfully load HDMU, Hrnigma and Satstation images but not AR-P, any sugestions ?
I load them through spark with the proper firmware (1.2.51 etc) and use the same memory stick.

Are you using the e2upgrade plugin in Spark or the front buttons? I've had no luck with the front buttons

I'm using the e2upgrade in Spark.

Is there big advantage in loading the latest HDMU image (10905) as opposed to updating the one I have already installed (10709) ?

Briefly tried the 10905 image and found some of the plugins I use (permanenttimeshift) are not available in the feeds. Also after installing my plugins (1 channel, crossepg, cooltv guide) I cannot get any softcam to start. It will start before any plugin is installed, All emu's and plugins are installed from the image feed.
Reinstalled my 10709 backup which runs them all.

Software update does not update the image, you need to flash to get updates

There's a plugin earlier in the thread that allows you program any function to a remote button. I've since removed it as it was causing problems with timeshift for me

    Hey all,

I wonder about CrossEPG. I don't want to pick too many sources - or maybe should I pick every single reference to Sly and 28.2 from the groups XMLTV, OpenTV and EXPGDB ?

    Regards
    C

Yeah, I was going to pm you after seeing your image, you only need to enable opentv 28.2, no others. It'll update in 2 mins daily then and have all channels

For the EPG solution, see post #1352 which was after I made the image.

Don't bother trying this - it's not working.

Just bought a box yesterday. I am a real novice at this but a quick learner.
Can any one point me in the right direction in relation how to get the best from this box. I am not looking for card sharing.

I pay for multi room from sky and would like to find out how to make it recognise my sky sub card ( if this is not illegal) i am paying sky so i cant see how i would be breaking the law.

How to flash the best sortware or os and if some one can explain "autobouquets", what they are, and how to install them.

Thats it for this post!!! More to come :D

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's not illegal, but it's against Skys terms and conditions to use their card in another box, therefore they won't let us discuss it here. The satstation forum allow this type of discussion.

I asked a question like this about a week ago and got a terse reply suggesting I wasn't gonna get spoonfed and to read the posts and digest them. So far I've read about 1000 on this thread alone and taken many notes.

The Alien 2 is really great... it can boot into two different operating systems: Spark and Enigma. It comes installed with just Spark and that's what I'm working with for the first few days until I get familiar with basics. I connected it to my router with network cable and plugged a USB drive at the back which I use to record things onto. I can connect to it with my laptop over Wifi and FTP plugins to it (using Filezilla) and execute commands in the Linux OS (using Putty to Telnet).

Eventually you might want to try 'flashing' an Enigma Image to the box. This OS is updated more often and not by a commercial company but a community of programming enthusiasts. It has more bells and whistles such as streaming live channels to other devices like phones and computers. It has a fancier EPG and autobouquets (channel favourites that update their own frequencies if they change... like what happens on Sky).

There are several variants of Enigma. One is HDMU, there's also AR-P, SatStation & others. A good guide on how to flash HDMU onto an Alien 2 was written by PogMoThoin and is available here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056882713 I haven't tried it yet, on my to-do list!

    Worked for me...

One thing I can't seem to get working is plugins. I ftp them to the temp folder and install. It says they've been installed without error but they are nowhere to be found. Also YouTube from the online plugin suppository doesn't work. I can't unpack ipks on a mac. Any other options?

7 zip will open them, it should also be available for Mac

Same problem for me, after FTP to /tmp and then scanning and installing. Can't find plugin anywhere

I had the same issue ,just stuck at Boot using ChampionC backup.

Backing up images on these boxes is very temperamental ,even using the Spark plugin. It wont recognise certain flash drives and sometimes it will recognise a drive ,other times it wont recognise the same drive ,very frustrating.

Edit ,retried ChampionC's AR-P backup and it worked this time.
Same sluggish DVB-T performance on this image too using PLI-HD skin.

Today I flashed the latest HDMU 10905 on the spare box I'm preparing for my Dad. I started to set it up from scratch but couldn't get Autobouquets working. Then Crossepg started to crash so I gave up and flashed a backup of my own HDMU 10780 which is rock solid.

Is it possible/advisable to mount a network drive (on my NAS) for storage rather than a USB drive as per Pog's instructions?
If so how do you go about adding it?

you might have more luck if you unpack the ipk file and manually install it. I think it is easy enough to do on a pc but not so straightforward on a mac. I have discovered if you change the tag to. zip it will unpack it sometimes. tbh I didn't have these problems with hdmu.

Elgato-HD looks nice and has very little lag. Kerni-HD1R2 is also good.

My Triplex wont boot now .
It boots Spark for a while then the front display goes dead and a red light just stays on .
Enigma 2 just stays at Boot on display.

Spark boots into standby. You have to boot again.

Would anyone do me a huge favour and unpack some ipk files and send them back to me please?

    Cheers
