Bit of a dick move on UB's part. So I should be OK moving 3k from savings into and back out of the current account once a month?

Yeah I think so, confirm it with them. It's supposed to work with the tsb accounts.

Ridiculous if you have to be doing transfers every month to avail of free banking,

Why cant they just take all your accounts into consideration and apply the waiver then?

It is a business though? They are providing you with a service so why not charge? Would you charge someone for your services? People are weary to deposit money they dont have anymore so they cant give out that many mortgages or loans so they arent gettin as much revenue as they previously were so they need to generate some! Hence why you shall be charged for the use of their services, kinda makes sense?

Just off the web chat to them, their advice is to ring and ask someone who knows the answer.

banks make millions off peoples hard earned cash but since alot of people aint getting mortgages anymore its "ok" to fleece people more with this charge?

even tho they will still charge you anytime you use your atm. do you work for a bank?

Nope but it was explained to me before as I was in shock when I recieved my first charge after being a student, was in oz and my account had a monthly 10 dollar charge which I couldnt comprehend and that was the way it was explained to me....alternatively you could store your money in a matress for free?

The old chap got an email yesterday relating to the €4 charge.

If you are over 60 you will not be paying the €4 monthly fee

Boo hoo, most German banks charge something similar. Irish people seemed to have been a little spoiled with their banking last decade.

Perhaps .. But that's over now ... Now it's time to get lubed up and prepare to take it where the sun don't shine without even the common courtesy of a reach around. This 4 euro charge is just foreplay.

If you have an old TSB account there are no fees and no conditions.

Yeah its great, love that they just kept it free for us.

Banks already make money from having your money in them in the first place, if only people would always switch to the cheapest

Well I guess we're officially part of Germany now? I believe it's wrong in any country considering we already pay for every transaction or service we use.

They don't even keep our money in the banks, they give it to other people for loans. So they make enough money from the interest on that.

You pay for every transaction?

Calm down bro, just relaying some info I thought might be handy to some of the elders here.

I'll ask Old Man Towell to forward on the email and I'll post it on here if somebody might be interested

AIB and BOI do this. I think it's 20c and 27c respectfully unless you have a min €3k in your account at all times. They add it up and hit you with a quarterly bill! Fcukers.

Even online transactions between your own accounts are considered too.

I'm with 3 different German banks and none of them charge me.

Is there anyway to avoid the AIB fees at all, or reduce them? I left the country and had free banking with AIB (if you used your laser card once a month or something like that), returned after a few years and have started getting fee letters from AIB with ridiculous charges on them. I didn't realise fees had come back until I got this :(

You have to maintain a minimum balance of €2,500 at all times.

Surely everybody has heard of the PTSB switch account at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

I'm with PTSB and I get charged €5 a year for using my Visa Debit card

    Tis outrageous.

I'm thinking of opening up a bank. No charges, completely free banking. I'll pay first time customers 50 euro to lodge their money with me.
The bank will be called the Bank of Dēfalcātiō.

I have an empty account that I left open incase I ever need a ROI account again. Do I actually need to close the account or can I just tell them to feck off if they ever come asking for the €4?

    Oh how I LOL'd

I'd say there's more over 60's able to afford this than under 60's :D
