One small crumb of comfort for Muslims etc is that if it turns out these 2 guys are foreigners, they don't exactly look like the stereotypical movie type Muslim bad guys with big beards etc

They just look like 2 regular college types.

I know it's only a small point but might help minimise any backlash towards that community.

Sounds from the reports that they are Russian. Fox reporting that they probably got training in Afganistan or Pakistan.... cause you know.... that's where the terrorists come from.

They were showing the controlled demo on fox just now live

How are they coming to the conclusion that they were "trained" by a foreign organisation?

Fox simply reported that a government source said they were investigating whether or not they had foreign ties or if they were trained overseas.

There weren't any accusations or suggestions that they were connected to a foreign organisation.

So reported both suspects are from Chechniya. Bit of a weird spot for Chechens to make a statement.

Cue anti-Russian, anti-European sentiments all over Fox.

It's just that the news station I'm looking at (don't know which one it is) keeps saying "trained by a foreign organisation".

Suspects are not a threat. Officers told to stand down..

....bizarre spot for anyone to do it, tbh. You'd have expected something symbolic to be targeted...jaysus knows why 2 chechens (if its confirmed that chechens they be) did it.

Chechens are are mostly muslim so I would imagine its a jihadist type thing rather than a statement about the general situation in Chechnya

more than likely radical Islamists from around Chechnya....I wouldn'tbe shocked at that...

Radical Islamists have come from Chechyna, they "fought" in Afghanistan, Iraq and other places. Its up to the US police and the Russians to determine if the suspects are linked to this extremism.

It's hard to keep track of context when the thread is moving so fast, I was talking about Sunil Tripadi (Indian, Hindu - based on the name) and how he doesn't fit the "typical image" despite being brown. That's all. :)

If the suspects are Chechen then it's very possible they are Muslim.

I haven't heard them mention it recently but I'm not paying a huge amount of attention.

Fox are interviewing an FBI profiler right now, if that's the station you're watching I must be mistaken.

A Chechen travelling there for training is like an Irish guy travelling to Nigeria for a freshly brewed Guinness.

This is sh*tty for any decent Muslims in the US if it turns out that these are radicals.

Fair enough, i was simply making a joke that Fox literally have no other way to report things like this than "blame the muslims" doesnt matter where they are from

Weird that the suspects stuck around in Boston after the event. You'd think they'd have done a runner, unless they thought they had unfinished business or something.

One thing that I do have to say, is that well done to the authorities for hunting these guys down very quick (with the photo/video evidence). The two guys certainly didn’t help their cause by robbing the 7-11, but that to me suggests that they have become desperate and had no further plan after the bombings (this is evident with them still being in the general area).

    Reported disturbance

Man reported talking into a camera taped to a lightbulb in arabic with bag on the ground

So much paranoia in boston ATM, Its crazy

Maybe i'm misguided but having lived in America for a while i would wager this is not that bad a result for the Muslim community.

The average Joe Soap won't know or care where Chechnya is. They will just shrug "damn Russians". And people over there won't tend to associate Russia with the sort of radical muslim extremism.

Whereas if these guys were Iranian, Saudi or anywhere close, they'd be throwing darts at a map of the Middle East on who they want to invade or bomb in retaliation.

It did take an armed robbery and car-jacking to alert them to their presence though. Hardly Sherlock Holmes.
