I wonder how much that changes things

You just have to disregard the remake of Red Dawn.

The girl who named him said that white hat suspect looked like the missing guy. Others jumped on it that it was him.

Surviving suspect identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

    Other guy is his brother

    They are terrorists.

You know what I mean, and if we're going to be pedantic, we have no idea of their aims or motives so therefore cannot be conclusively defined as terrorists.

Fox are reported them as "foreign trained" terrorists who could be a part of a "cell". All speculation with the aim of making it look like this is a foreign attack on America. They could be right but right now, they're just joining dots and adding a few of their own to suit the story they want to tell.

Regardless, this is tragic and hopefully the police end the situation soon so the people of Boston can breath again.

A terrorist doesn't just mean "someone foreign". What they've done could be considered an act of terrorism, regardless of where they're from.

How are they coming to the conclusion that they were "trained" by a foreign organisation?

Name sounds Hindu of Indian descend. Someone of that background usually wouldn't have anything against the west.
Who's to say they're doing it because they have anything against the west?

I was just saying that he wouldn't fit the typical (generalised) definition of terrorist these days, you know radical islam, al-qaeda, "why you did this to my country, now I get you back" etc etc.

Yes but the automatic default for the word terrorist in the states is a brown person, specifically by the news networks, otherwise they put a qualifier on it and say "domestic terrorist" or something else

I never said anything about their origin being what defines a terrorist.

    FBI definition:
Domestic terrorism is the unlawful use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States or Puerto Rico without foreign direction committed against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives.

As I said (in response to ibarelycare), until we know the aims and motives of the two men, you cannot just assume they are terrorists. Also, I'm speaking about Fox's reporting on this. All morning, they've been spinning a foreign terrorist line without evidence to support it. They start a rumour and half an hour later quote someone who quoted them and spit it out as news.

Fox News is worse than Sky News for stating the obvious and speculation :

"I mentioned earlier that the type of clothing he was wearing was a type worn in cold weather so now we know they were from Chechnya they were probably ready to leave the country".

This from a guy wearing a big coat, so are you a terrorist too Mr Reporter?

One small crumb of comfort for Muslims etc is that if it turns out these 2 guys are foreigners, they don't exactly look like the stereotypical movie type Muslim bad guys with big beards etc

They just look like 2 regular college types.

I know it's only a small point but might help minimise any backlash towards that community.

Radical Islamists have come from Chechyna, they "fought" in Afghanistan, Iraq and other places. Its up to the US police and the Russians to determine if the suspects are linked to this extremism.
