You working with the fbi long? Surely the media can be used by the fbi in whatver way they want no. Ie for example telling the mecia they have a suspect while waiting/watching the real one

Publishing someone's picture and announcing they're a suspect in a highly emotionally charged crime when you're not sure of their guilt would be extremely dangerous and wouldn't be done by any responsible agency.

Even if you're 100% sure they're guilty it's still a last resort and only done when time is running out (for obvious reasons).

I can say with certainty that they're definitely either responsible for the bombing or else are just two guys walking down the street with back-packs on.

These lads have to live somewhere obviously so they must have neighbours ect, somebody will know them, they have to get money from somewhere ie work or welfare ect so they have to identified,if they're foreign the secret service will have picked something up through sources.

    This sh*t baffles me.

Twitter is erupting with lefties saying that they hope the perps are white males, while the flipside of that, is right wingers salvating at the thought of the perps being arabic.

    Dont get it.

Neither of us are MI5 or fbi so we dont know

That's always a possibility. The FBI put out a red herring, and let the real suspects think that the feds are onto the wrong person. I was thinking that myself earlier.

Something needed to be done after the shambles the media made of reporting things yesterday, anyway.

I doubt the victims and their families give a damn about the bombers ethnicity.:(

American politics is a dirty, dirty game.

True, people just twist a story to fit whatever their agenda is.

I'd say any comments on the ethnicity made are more for identification purposes and not general racial comments, the public need to know they skin colour of suspects ffs no point in looking for a white male if they clearly arent.

FBI site seems to be back to normal now
I'm slightly disappointed in the FBIs image enhancements, CNN yesterday made it sound like we could expect CSI miami type image zooming and sharpening

    It's not that baffling.

Both sides - left and right - want their opinions/viewpoints validated, reinforcing their own beliefs. The bombing incident then almost becomes secondary in the oneupmanship tit-for-tat between right and left. Sad, but true.

You're correct. I was referring to the coverage prior to the release.

Is twitter really 'erupting' with 'lefties' saying they 'hope the perps are white males'?

Are you monitoring twitter that closely and, if you are, are you sure that those you've decided are 'lefties' are 'hoping' the perpetrators are white males or are they just suggesting that the perpetrators could be 'white males'/or as, they're more likely to have phrased it 'domestic terrorists'; it's likely you extrapolated this to mean 'white males'.

Do you have many or any examples of twitter users writing 'i hope the perpetrators are white males'?

As for those twitter users that you're monitoring that you've identified as 'right-wingers', how are they 'salivating' exactly?

Are they, largely, writing something along the lines of 'i really hope the perpetrators turn out to be arabic' or, are they, perhaps suggesting that they definitely are arabic.

I haven't been monitoring twitter, so it would be nice to know.

I just hope they're not aliens or government agents lest CT get their viewpoints validated.

Well there have been a number of articles http://www.salon.com/2013/04/16/lets_hope_the_boston_marathon_bomber_is_a_white_american/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 546 ✭✭✭stretchdoe

Well, i was replying to someone who was referring to twitter.

And that isn't 'a number of articles': it's one article.

And if you read it, you'll see that, whatever you think of its effectiveness, the author isn't seriously suggesting that he 'hopes the perpetrator is a white male', he's trying to make a point about 'double-standards' and how the American media deal with these things.

I am a conservative - I dont care what ethnicity the bombers are, I just want them caught and to face justice! Everything else is secondary.

look pretty dark skinned. seems possible they are Al Qaeda sympathisers/wanabees.
2nd guy has a very large chin and nose, so somebody, somewhere will easily finger him, if he's a US citizen.
unless they've skipped the country they'll be in police custody before MOTD.

I can see the point of hoping they're white.

If they are white it's just another crazy lunatic who'll be forgotten about over time.

If they're arabic then it's an attack on America! That means you gotta watch out for those crafty Muslims, maybe The Patriot Act 2.0 needs to be written up! Gotta protect the homeland!

They are what they are, be they White or Arabic, but the response will be quite different depending on which.

Put white male into the twitter search engine. Then muslim/arab bomber or something similar.

there cant be many people in the developed world who have not viewed these pics now.

wonder if these ar$eholes have ever watched a fox being pursued by a pack of baying hounds and men on horses?
if not they're about to get a ring side seat.

    I couldn't be bothered.

Forgotten over time? Like T McV? The sandy hook shooter? The Davidians?

Come on, man. Lay off the whitey bashing.

There has been one hate crime related to this incident - a group of Mexicans battered a Bangladeshi lad in a Bronx restaurant.

Unless you're also on twitter arguing what about their ethnicity is, I wasn't specifically talking about you - or all right/left for that matter. :)

But you were bothered enough to type up a 200 word response to moi - yet not bothered enough to type a few keywords into a search engine?

    Makes perfect sense.

How do you know they were Mexicans?
    Were they wearing sombreros?

And if someone(s) caught and no evidence places them in anyway near the crime scene, will you still be ok with that? Will everything else be secondary? Like the German guy who was put to death for the Lindhberg Baby yet it's proven he had nothing to do with it, will it be ok with you?
