Anyone sitting the CA Assessments on 11th May?? Ideas on case study?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 452 ✭✭littlemiss123

@Conor1979 thats crazy that you only get 3 weeks off, I'm stressed about the thought of only having 8 weeks off :/

Would make way more sense if the mock were in the middle of may when we had at least some bit of study done!
How have you organised the notes? Have you split up the lecture notes? I will definitely do mocks even just to go in and study for the 4 hrs would be a start for me! However tax will be pointless as I have not even gotten to open the book basically.

I've just split them up by lecture in a folder with dividers and have all the exam papers and solutions in one folder. Not gonna bring the whole folder into the actual exam with me, I'll spend a good bit of my study leave pulling out key bits of information and making condensed notes so I won't have to drag my whole folder in. It'll be much easier to find bits of information that way too.

Ya tax will definitely just be like watching paint dry but the others might be worth a bit of a shot. I haven't even opened a book though, have you done any bit of study for them? Kinda got lazy after the auditing assessment and wasn't motivated to do anything!

Have just sent this on to CAP2 email address re: the e-mail sent earlier today about the 9am start time for the mocks on Saturday:-

"(Students who arrive late to the exam will not be allowed entre the hall)"

    WHY?

Given that many of those sitting these exams (myself included) will be travelling in from outside of Dublin on Saturday morning, it is probable that some will struggle to arrive before 9am let alone at 8:30 am. I believe it to be VERY unreasonable to refuse entry at 9:01am to one of these students - especially those relying on public transport - who may have been travelling for several hours but who may have been delayed for reasons beyond their control.

Are you trying to discourage students from making the effort?

... I will post here if they can be bothered justifying what (to me) is a needless threat - anyone who has made best efforts to be there before 9am should be let in I think.

I got an e-mail back saying discretion will be used in deciding what is deemed as “being late” on the day.

As for 830... I'd take that with a grain of salt. I read somewhere else that we won't be let into the hall until 15 minutes before the exam starts.

It'd be so much simpler to have the option to sit the exam in Dundalk. They withdrew it a couple of years ago, but by then I'd committed to the ACA route for qualifications (with the notion that I'd be able to do CAP2 and FAE classes up here...)

Our lecturer last weekend basically said to just have a flick through them to be familiar. The main point was that the 'names' of the types of audit report have changed (although you might already be familiar with this if you work in auditing). As far as I can remember 'limitation of scope' is now 'inabiliy to obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence' and the second type of modification (can't remember of the top of my head) is now 'financial statements are materially misstated'.

The auditing standards book is up to date regarding this change but the Nolan book isn't.

Correct me if I'm wrong regarding any of the above.

Yeah im sitting it as well.

    Topics seem to include ;
    Standard Costing and theory
    Investment Appraisal
    Benchmarking & theory
    Target Costing & theory

Unsure of how go about it but I'm going to look up the Cap1 competency statement for Finance & Mgt Acc and see if I find anything related to the above topics

Yeah that sounds good, for whatever reason I always find investment appraisal difficult to get my head around. I'm reading through the chapter at the moment.

What ideas do you have for the template?

I think I'm ok with the variance analysis, investment appraisal and benchmarking but I'm struggling what to take out of the original case study produced ie the swot analysis and the following action points the company plan to make. Any ideas there?

Where can you find information on benchmarking? And yeah I'm not sure about the swot analysis, may lead into a performance analysis question maybe?

What's the basis for the SFMA special sitting? First I've heard of it.

Deferral from January exam as some were unable to attend, for eg, I was on a training course in UK at the time.

Can anyone give some help on the benchmarking? Finding it difficult to get info!

Hi just wondering how is everyone set for Financial Reporting? How did the mocks go? Hopefully the final paper won't be as difficult!

I passed three of the mocks, got 45% in sfma. Couldn't believe i passed FR considering all i did on the consolidated question was the adjustments for calculating goodwill and retained earnings. New structure seems to make FR an awful lot easier.

I find FR difficult too but at least its a separate question 2 this year and 25 marker. Any thoughts on the consolidation question? Normal Balance Sheet and P+L or statement of cash flows as in the sample paper issued?
