They did the same with the Japanese earthquakes and reactor explosions endless looping horror scenes and exploding power plants!

There's only one reason for it. It sells. It's horrible to think about it but news channels who's existence rely on ad revenue are going to use events like this to keep people watching. Buzz words within the reports themselves an showing repetitive footage of the moment of impact is how they try and keep an audience.

As I said last night it's disgusting, almost ring dished out as entertainment rather than deliver news.

It's only entertainment if people find it entertaining which clearly they do.

That's not Sky News' fault, it's just human nature.

They choose how a story is delivered. Constant mentioning of being in 'HD' seems unimportant to me, but maybe that is just me.

It's not necessarily sky's fault. They may just be pandering to the masses after tragic events such as this. However as supposedly serious investigative journalists they should deliver facts rather than diluting the content down.
Then again it is BskyB I'm talking about so I won't hold my breath for that.

I didn't see that but I'm assuming it wasn't the anchors reporting that it was in HD and instead was an ad. Obviously they needed to break at sporadic times given they were focussing on one story and those breaks couldn't be too long in case any new information came in. Hence they'd fill those breaks with whatever short ads they had themselves.

I'm not sure what they "diluted" the news down with so I can't comment.

You are only noticing that the videos get repeated so often because you are sat there staring at the telly waiting for them to tell you something new and more horrific. Change the channel and watch something else if it's bothering you that much, the fact that you don't shows it as you being the one who is fixated on the horror.

Also when a story like this breaks you'll have people tuning in constantly after just hearing about it, so it makes sense for the news channels to just keep repeating themselves to bring new viewers up to speed.

I'm a bit sickened by some common messages that people post on various sites about IRA funding in a gloating manner as if the people of Boston somehow deserved it.

Yeah I have stopped watching the news for a break, also you have to wind down with some TV/films, or else you will just be worrying about it all night.

I've been seeing quite a few related posts tonight. I'm really hoping to f*ck that that the IRA (or RIRA, CIRA whatever the terrorists choose to call themselves) aren't to blame.

If a bombing occurred in the U.K. - thinking that it may be an Irish based attack is not racist.

    Look at the history ffs.

    Yes it is!

Krystle M. Campbell, 29, named as second victim.

    RIP :(

Nothing on any of the American news sites either, hopefully it's nothing sinister.

I'd say there's more of a chance that Bigfoot done it than the IRA or some related splinter group.

Nothing to do with Boston at all I'd say. Probably wouldn't even have gone beyond the local Atlanta news stations if it wasn't for yesterday.

You sure that's real? Nothing on any google search and the picture itself looks dated.

Press conference on now, FBI saying the bomb was a pressure cooker filled with ball bearings, nails etc in a black backpack or nylon bag. Can't watch it as I'm on a train from London

No one is claiming responsibility for it yet, President Obama is travelling to Boston on Thursday

Someone like Alex Jones should be ignored. The guy is a shameless self-publicisist with a colossal ego, not that he's unique in this regard.

If it's fundamentalist Muslims then sections of the American right will go bananas. Not even just the fringe elements, but the more mainstream ones. Someone like Sean Hannity who comes close to salivating every time he gets the chance to the use the 'Bush kept us safe' routine. Sadly, an attack on a soft target like this seemed inevitable. Airport security is too tight, so it had to be trains, buses or a public event. If it's domestic terrorism, who knows. I think the investigative agencies will get to the bottom of it if there's plenty of CCTV, etc.

There's guy who produces a podcast I listen to, and he's from Boston. I've never met him, but we've exchanged emails over the past year or so. He's OK, thankfully. The sound of the bombing is pretty incredible. I turned off the TV news after about 30 minutes last night. Switched to WBUR.

This one is going to be hard to solve - Can see it being dragged out for a long time.

I think the bomber(s) will turn out to be from the States, solely because nobody Internationally has said they done it yet.

Sick statement to make - how more isn't dead is beyond me.
