They changed a lane in blanchardstown SC at the roundabout beside the liberty building, left lane is for 1st exit and the right lane for 2nd and 3rd exit. Kind of defeats the purpose of showing them adds telling you what is the correct way to pass through a roundabout

That's where the phrase "Unless roadmarkings indicate otherwise" comes in.
But having said that, 99% of the time when someone uses the wrong lane in a roundabout, it's not because they don't know, it's because the correct lane has a long queue of cars in it and the lane for turning off somewhere else is empty.
So you get yourself into the empty lane and boot it past everyone else, whilst giving the finger.
I'm still waiting for a big payout if some arsehole decides to play chicken for an exit with me, because I'm not budging. And then I'll jump about and writhe on the floor in pain, ouch my neck, quick, give me E20k!:p
So far the other guy has always decided to flinch first and then follow me beeping, flashing and waving fists at me. One even took a picture of me, whilst driving, shocking!
So the problem is not just education, it's lack of manners, respect and enforcement.

The thing I hate about that is there is often just an arrow painted on the road which is useless when there is traffic sitting on top of it. Very few places seem to have an actual sign up indicating which lanes to use.

What goes through people tiny little minds when they are driving?

100kph, pulls in with about a meter at most between me and them so I brake gently(as its a motorway), then they start braking because they never saw the slower car in the lane ahead so I have to overtake them again as we are now down to less then 70kph with traffic closing behind.

You'd wonder how far down the list of things they are concentrating on is driving?

i see this often enough.. my interpretation is as follows:

Straight forward really.. the car that got in front of you was trying to overtake you but probably at the speed limit or slightly higher but not too much higher.. he saw a faster approaching car from behind so he turn in straight after overtaking.. he may try to get back out to overtaking lane but when checking mirror, saw another really fast approaching car.. going back to overtaking lane is putting himself in danger as he is not fast enough to have the same speed differential as the approaching car from overtaking lane.. now he has a slower car in front of him which he need to be vary of so he slows down to allow some gap between the car in front..

he probably should have carry on a little bit more in the overtaking lane before turning in but other people may be quick to call it 'lane hogger'

    Can't really win, can it?

Nail on the head, how are you supposed to know when there's cars covering the road, its stupidity.
The same goes for arrows pointing straight then with about 10 yards to go it says right only

Both lanes have arrows on the ground saying both can go straight, but whenever I go straight in the right lane, people always give out because they think I'm in the wrong.

Lot of guys on boards swear this is correct use of the overtaking lane. If you aren't swerving in and out of it like a F1 grid warming the tyres behind the safety car, you are doing it wrong.

I'm with you man, "slow" well signalled and planned manoeuvers are the right thing when travelling at speed.

last week on N4 a few guys speeding all **** themselves when a squad with flashies showed up behind them at speed, they all bailed into the "slow" lane and hit the anchors to about 80 km/h , causing mayhem for cars behind. Usual superhero "I'm on gods work" type nonsense moves.

I haven't heard one person suggesting swerving between the driving lane and overtaking lanes on boards. What has been stated here is the correct use of the lanes ie: stay left unless overtaking.

    That, unfortunately, is very true.

That type of arrow is not to indicate what lane you should be in for exiting the roundabout.

That arrow means a single lane is spit into two lanes. From looking at Google Maps, that roundabout has no indicate of what lane you should be in...I would use the right lane for straight on also, since it is just past 12 o'clock position

Can you quote an official source for that rule?
I already did in my previous post, but if an official response to the previous roundabouts thread from the communications manager at the RSA isn't enough to convince you then I doubt anything anyone can say will be enough for you.

    Woman who hates indicators.

I'd take that, but for God's sake, mirror is not only located in bathroom!

Yep. Was a older man driving in this Civic.

Got this on Sunday morning. If I had being going faster, he more than likely would have hit me. Senseless driving!

We don't have a clue how to use roundabouts in this country.

never mind about using mirrors, he was all over the shop.
    whats INDICATORS?

Just started using the witness iPhone app, will be getting a proper dash cam soon but this will do for the time being.

Two things to note in this video, jeep not using lanes and cutting me off and a porsche speeding up the bus lane

Had to see the lane markings in the video, but was the Civic not in the correct lane for going straight through the roundabout ? You tried to overtake him ?

I know that roundabout, it has two lanes, the civic should have kept to the left lane but just treated the road as a sing lane, much the same as my video execept i was on the opposite side

The civic was in the outside lane and cut across once he was on the roundabout. Civic was in the wrong IMO.

Ok, but then so should the car with the camera have been in the left lane ?
If Civic had stayed in left lane, what does camera car do, pass him on the roundabout ?

I think the ROTR say you should be in the left lane when going straight thro' a roundabout

Civic definately moves across but looks to me both drivers in the wrong

Along with tailgating, this carry on drives me cracked on the roads.

He didn't save my ass but I think my cam shared my frustration this morning lol  (A truck had kindly stopped to my right leaving the junction wide open to let traffic clear ... or so he thought!)

You can go straight through a roundabout in both lanes.

Left lane: First exit(or before) and straight through.

Right lane: straight through and third exit(or more).

    Quite simple.

Don't mean to be pedantic but I'm fairly sure that you're only supposed to take the right lane for straight through if it's marked that way on the roundabout.

I understand what you mean, at this particular roundabout there are 2 exit lanes so in practice you can take either the left or right lane to exit straight through as long as everybody is behaving themselves.

Here's the RSA's view on it:

Way i have always looked at it left lane is for left turn and anything up to and including straight on and right lane is everything else.

Obviously this depends on how many exits

That's my usual take on things but a lot of roundabouts have lanes on them which eventually filter into one lane, its just that people never seem to pay attention to road markings
