I'm sure the intention of the staff was for the merchandise to be used for the victims.

You can see a few good people running over and grabbing the first thing to hand and making their way back to the scene.

The others are "browsing" and then taking stuff and not running anywhere with it, as far as I can see. That is looting imo

you can't technically "loot" what is free. And these shirts/jackets were all identical jackets and being laid out by the staff.

I.e. This was not people going into the store trying on Nike or Adidas trainers and walking off. They all got the same stuff, as it was being given out for free. Hence the employees handing them out in boxes.

Just read this in another forum i post in
Sending love to all the Boston folks, my best friend from high school is at Harvard, and apparently his roommate is severely injured, partied and had great times with him the several times i've visited. He even refused to have me sleep on the couch and let me crash in his bed. His family is in the process of setting up some fund for him, i'll post the link here. It doesnt matter though, donate money to the victims whoever they may be. Disgusting world.
Preliminary news is that he lost one his eyes. What. The. ****.

Its so sad, some lad on a day off with really nice weather went down to see the end of the marathon and now his life is changed forever...for what? The world is a ****ed up place

Fair enough, it wasn't technically looting as they did not go into the store.
But it was stealing as the items were not being used for the intention for which they were supplied.

It's all semantics I guess but it still amounts to the same thing, that some people boggle the mind.
To grab a jacket at a time like that??????????/

sorry, just "dark skin foreign accent" narrows it down to roughly half the worlds population.

People do strange strange things at times like these. I've been at funerals where close family members of the deceased burst out in a fit of giggles. Sometimes people just deal with things differently. "hey does this tshirt fit me?", not exactly something most of us would ask but hey most of us weren't a few feet from a bomb and our heads away with the fairies.

I was watching CNN when they reported that. Apparently a dark skinned man with a foreign accent tried to enter a restricted area near the finish line and once he was refused he put his hood up and walked away. The BPD are on the look out for him.

That's all I can see on the CNN banner at the bottom of the screen. This particular bomb I find really horrible, even the sandy hook parents are there.

It's particularly evil the positions of the bombs. The second one was positioned about 50 feet from the first and went off 20 seconds after the first. Basically anybody caught in the first blast could only walk/run in the direction of the second. Planned to cause maximum risk to human life.

And the third unexploded bomb was in the opposite direction, so people running away from the first bomb in either direction were targeted.

The staff WERE HANDING OUT BOXES OF JACKETS. DId you not see the photos of the thousands of unclaimed race bags? What are organizers supposed to do with them? Their 'purpose' was to give to people as they completed the race, but thousands of people weren't allowed to finish, and the police were not letting anyone into the race zone. The 'intention for which they were supplied' no longer existed.

A runner with a camera capturing the explosion

So loud, it freaked the sh1t out of me just watching it.

Right I'm going to bed...hopefully tomorrow will be a brighter day here and we'll have stories of recoveries.

Boston is a tough city, we will bounce back.

Very sad day. Marathon Monday is normally one of the best days in Boston. Everyone is cheering on the runners and in a good mood. Disgraceful what happened today.

God,we see explosions all the time in films or on the news in far flung places but that little clip and the sound of it going off hits home how terrifying it must be.

Agreed. I was there as a spectator for the marathon last year, taking part in the 5k run the day before. It was such great fun all weekend. The whole city comes out for it and it is a real community event.

I'm absolutely sickened by this today, I cant believe someone could carry out such an appalling act on innocent people. My thoughts are with those who lost their lives and the many injured

Just found out via local media that my physio was running the race and just got back to his hotel as the first bomb went off, his family had been waiting for him at the finish line not long before.

Not saying I do or don't agree with it, and not looking to start a discussion about the Death Penalty, but I'd say that if those responsible for this are caught, the District Attorney over there will push for it like crazy.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Massachusetts has the death penalty.

It's an evil act, and I hope those responsible are brought to justice. Thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

I think you're right Ben. Just did a quick fact check, and it was abolished there in 1984.

What on earth are the people who did this like? How are they going to look at themselves in a mirror today when it'll be in the news non-stop for the rest of the week at least? One wonders if there'll be even just a bit of remorse on the inside when the gravity of what they've done hits them.

This seems very similar to the Olympic Park Bombings at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

My thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of the deceased. Tragedy is not the word... Also hoping for the best regarding those who are injured.

Per Fox News : Police say it appears that ball bearings were incorporated into the bomb to cause maximum "personal" damage.

Absolutely horrific to see the devastation caused to runners and spectators out enjoying a day out.

    .

The Federal Government still has the death penalty and terrorism is a federal crime so they could go down that route if they really wanted to. Timothy MvVeigh was executed by the Government and not the State of Oklahoma.
