Never knew that about nervous shock. Thanks for informing me, interesting to see if there's something similar in America.
    Must look into that.

    Cheers.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nervous_shock_in_English_law
It is well established in English law that a person who has intentionally and without good reason caused another emotional distress will be liable for any psychiatric injury that follows.[2] An example of this is a bad practical joke played on someone which triggered serious depression in that person. The joker intended to cause the other person emotional distress and will be liable for the medical consequences.

I don't think he's fully succumbed to the reality of what was happening.
I just hope someone is there to give him a hug when he lets it all out.

I think it was also shocking to see the people looting the sports(Marathon?)shop as people were dying.
    Sad indictment of humanity

He should be in hospital and not left walking the streets.

True, it'll hit him sooner rather than later. I was close to tears watching him. Poor bugger. Like you say, hope he gets home safe and has somebody to hold him :( God, its all so fucking horrible!!!

I'm gonna just throw this out there in the absence of reports ....

But to my mind, this "looting" of the sports store could equally be well intentioned, good samaritans looking for things to help victims.

The store was 10 feet from the blast and i'm sure contained lots of things that may have been helpful. Hoodys or sweaters to keep victims warm whilst in shock, bandages, etc

It may very well be as you say that some of these people were taking these items for the victims as you can see some folks with "race gear" on.

But it was reported on that site as looting (not that you would believe everything you see on the web:))and I dont doubt there were one or two at least stealing the stuff

Yeah to be honest i'd take that "looting" angle with a pinch of salt, i'd say most of them were just looking for something warm to put on either in shock or to help others, remember in the midst of an incident like that they hardly have time to go back to a hotel and change, they'd be getting warm and/or looking for their families.

One or two did look like they just wanted a freebie but wouldn't class this as "looting".

Thats how I see it. Watching people in wheelchairs, they had jackets covering them and other items holding injured legs.

+1 and actually having watched it again, a Marathon Sports employee has multiple jackets in his hand. Looks to me like the store did their bit to help. Laid out the jackets for people to have.

But hey "looting" makes a better story.

Reported as "looting", in fairness there are a few stealing gear there.
But most you would hope seem to be doing the right thing and getting the items for the victims

In any given disaster there will always be an opportunist, though in this case I think the vast majority would have "raided" the store on the genuine benefits for others regarding warmth and health priorities.

    Sensationalist journalism I think.

As you say looting does make for a better story.
While there are some there doing wrong, imagine how you would feel to be classed along with them for taking the items to help?

    Media

Actually having looked at it again, the people looking to do right are in the minority.
Check out around 50 seconds in.
There are a lot of people "sizing" the jackets(the guy smoking ffs)
If they were going to use these on the victims, the wouldn't need to be looking at sizes

More like good intentioned people went for the jackets for the injured, and a few watched them and thought they were looting so they went in to steal.

Thats a bit sad to see but i dont think it can be classified as full scale looting.

Runners get that gear for completing the race so some of the people are probably taking the jackets for friends and family who are running the race but with the confusion may not get their jacket. Some of the people you can see are runners.

Still there is defly people just plain stealing but at least its just people seeing freebies left unattended as opposed to smashing windows and looting a store or something.

Also, we dont know if the person in charge of the tent of freebees just told people to take the stuff as the marathon was cancelled.

Posted above but you can see the employees handing out the stuff in cardboard boxes. No looting here. Sensationalist headline present though.

    ^^^This.

Normally after a race you see thousands of people walking around Boston in those blue and gold jackets. Since the race never finished, I wouldn't be surprised if the staff just decided to give them away.

Seriously, I fupping HATE the media and how they have covered this - from start to finish, it has been absolutely disgraceful.

I'm sure the intention of the staff was for the merchandise to be used for the victims.

You can see a few good people running over and grabbing the first thing to hand and making their way back to the scene.

The others are "browsing" and then taking stuff and not running anywhere with it, as far as I can see. That is looting imo
