What I don't get about PC and so called offesive posts

Did not have to look far to find an over overzealous sense of outrage.
DCC have decided to make the innocent suffer because of the action of illegal dumpers in 'blackspot' areas of Dublin.

Suspending rubbish and other services until apparantly people cop on.

Charlie Lowe also made this vaguely xenophobic statement. I have no idea if he is trying to blame immigrants for the problem but it looks that way.

I am not having a go at that poster I am just giving one example of an attitude that is inductive.

If and it's a big IF.
If he was talking about immigrants so what?
If they are responsible for more illegal dumping than average what is wrong with saying so.

Now the argument back that even if there was a higher than average rate the majority of immigrants do not carry out illegal dumping and it is unfair to mention immigrants in the first place.
Seems pretty reasonable I suppose treat everybody like individuals right?

Same goes for having a go at religious groups they will cry moan and scream bloody murder if anybody mentions true facts.
Now again everybody is an individual right and it is unfair to tar people?

These rules on the face of it seem fair right?

The problem is in society as a whole they are very selectively enforced.

Threads that bash whole areas of the city don't seem to cause outrage.

Threads that bash Christianity seem to be just fine.

Now we know you can not start a tread or post a comment being negative about somebody's sexuality but it's just fine to start a thread asking what is wrong with people who stay single.

I am not having a go at this board as it just reflects our country as it is.
I am also not bashing any posters here.

I really do find it hard to grasp why rules on being tolerant inclusive and respectful are selectively enforced in society.

Again please before anybody replies I am not having a go at this board or any posters or any group.

I am simply asking why people in general have such bias and selective outrage?

It's because you have asperger's and take everything literally. ;)

What was the apparently xenophobic comment?

    Your right.

But I really do not understand the mindset.

You can't say all people from Ghana do things one way for example however posts that say Ballyfermot is a dump are just fine.

Some people are very sensitive. PC gone mad and what not. Generalisations are fine as long as they're positive. It's the double standards that are the worst though.

Welcome to the Jewish NWO, where jokes are misconstrued as xenophobia.

What was the apparently xenophobic comment?

To be honest I did not even click into the link I just grabbed the post as an example.

Apparently means to me the person is reaching to put a meaning on something that was not there in the first place.

The original post is a good example of one that would benefit from a TL DR summary.

Ok, I don't really have much of an idea what's going on so.
I will say that political correctness gone mad would be a terrible thing if it were a sizeable problem which seriously affected many people's lives which, fortunately, is not the case.

Ultimately because people don't think for themselves. Most people are too lazy to read all of that never mind form a considered individual opinion on it.

OP I called you racist in AH before. On one thread you wrote some despicable stuff. If you write that kind of guff, I'm going to call you out on it. Expect repercussions.

It's gas the ones that are the most racist/xenophobic/homophobic/sexist complain the most about the PC Brigade.

You can slate Christianity, label country folk as backward hicks, slate Dubliners as skangers ,claim that Irish women are ugly - but god help you if you slate Islam or ask why there are 70 different nationalities on the fingal housing list. Thats incitement to hatred, apparently!

    Thanks for that.

I don't think the quote is probably as xenophobic to the extent that MadsL thinks so, but it's hard to know without knowing the full context of the case.

But I think it's certainly possible that Charlie Lowe was being xenophobic. Basically, he was saying that "it's actually not only foreigners but Irish people doing it too!"
I don't see why he would need to specify that it's not only foreigners, so there's a good chance he was being xenophobic.
It'd certainly be illogical to assume he wasn't.

So what we have here is one case of a possibly xenophobic quote, and one case of a possible slight overreaction to it, which is expanded into a general thesis on political correctness.

Just another day in After Hours then.

Slating Islam results in a hateful and violent response, so technically you are inciting hatred.

I'd actually love to repost all that you wrote in that thread and see if those agreeing with you would continue to agree with you.

Bs. Why is it perfectly acceptable to slate Christianity but not Islam?

In all honesty I find these rules a minefield and hard to navigate.

    This reply sums it up.

Also I find by being too open an honest I have been baited into posting stuff I did not really think about.

I'm not agreeing with him because I like him. Do you only agree with people who have not offended you?

Fine you could do that and I would be honest and open and admit my posts were all over the place and I served a ban that was deserved.

Unless I carefully sit down and think about my posts I can go off track fast.

I don't see how you bashing me detracts from the point I made in the original post?

On an individual level I treat everybody the same I doubt most could honestly say the same.

If you did not like a person and they warned you to move out of the way of an oncoming train would you stay on the tracks just to spite them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭The King of Moo

Saudi Arabia is a horrific backward country, with a savage interpretation of Islam applied to law.

    Sharia Law is barbaric.

Many Islamist terrorist are nasty pieces of work, and I have no problem with Islamist terrorist leaders being killed, as they're religious fundamentalist maniacs who cause the deaths of both their followers and their "enemies" while cowardly staying out of the line of fire.

Unfortunately I'm now going to get permanently banned for the above, by the PC do-gooder moderators.

In his previous posts, he was talking out of his arse INVENTING facts and basically talking utter garbage. That's my point. I'd agree with him if he actually lived by what he preached.

My point is, you acknowledge that those posts deserved a ban and as you said were all over the place. You're asking us, as someone who posted some pretty hateful stuff to say the least, why people shouldn't be allowed to say what the want as long as they could back it up with facts. My point is you didn't, so I find it difficult to take what you've written seriously as you didn't practise what you preached.

I called you out on it because you were pretty much talking out of your backside.
