I haven't got them yet. I have to decide whether to use the Strava app on my windows fone or use my wifes forerunner. Some specific training will be needed .

    Well 2 things.
You will need to know my real name. And even I have trouble remembering my real most if the time.
    And
I won't switch on the app/Garmin until I am confident I will get the KOM's.
So stalk away Mr. Gingerbeard man.

I am not sure whether I created it in my boards moniker or my less used real name. Anyway I may just may make a new account.

No point having KOM's or segments if no one knows about it ;)

Noticed last week Ryan Sherlock was blasted off the KOM on the Wicklow Gap from Glendalough. Obviously the rider in question was completely awesome going up the gap with an average speed of 80.2kph. I've noticed that one is not gone now and RS has the record again.

Jeebus. Even a car going up the Gap at an average 80kph is bloody mental. He'd want to delete that recording before the Gardai see it.

Ha, that's a good point I'd never thought of that. Surely that wouldn't stand up would it?

It will only matter to me and my inner circle. I and they will know I am King.
All the rest will be insignificant.

What's the story with these flat or downhill <1 minute segments with traffic lights? Every time I go on a new route I need to hide a bunch of absolutely worthless segments. There's a million worthless ones going from The Lamb to Enniskerry. Please don't make any new ones!

It's only a matter of time until every piece of tarmac is part of some useless Strava segment.

It's funny, I was just thinking that recently.

Fair to say I have a longish commute - as of today, 45km of my 50km commute has been 'segmentised' - there are over 20 segments, including one that is 0.1 km long!

What device have ya got that tells ya of upcoming segments ?

I only find out when I get home and upload garmin if I have any decent results

I train with headphones so if someone could design a feature that says Segment upcoming in X km's time/Speed to beat and maybe finished the sentence with Engage that would be great

You need to plan ahead - check the weather forecast then search for segments ideally the night before targetting those you think are "improveable". Have a plan B in case the wind changes direction ...

.........and lie in wait for an appropriate tractor? :pac:

Now that's just a bit sad.

I oughtta know, I was waiting about six months for "favourable conditions" to make it onto the front page of a segment on the clontarf cycle track - It'll take a hurricane for me to ever get a KOM.

Why lie in wait when you could hire one?

Cos that would be cheating ...

I lost a KOM today :( It was on a small little road, ridden by very few people, but it was mine. ...MINE! I started to consider how I'd need to improve my training to get it back again. It all seemed like very hard work. So I edited my Strava settings, switching my gender to "female", and that got me the QOM, solving the dilemma.

    I Strava smarter, not harder.

I've ridden 450km in France over the past five days. In that distance I've come across only two segments.

It's gotten absolutely ridiculous in Dublin. People are even creating segments on commuting routes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭chakattack

There's way too many "dangerous" segments too.

Dartry road is a dangerous segment? Come on...

I burst myself up that one day to see how I'd fare but can't see the leaderboard
