What a race. Best thing about horse racing

So happy there were no fatalities (afaik).

Teaforthree ran a blinder and made the fences look ordinary! A bit too high in the weights to win and a little less stamina than is required but delighted with the spin and to have one in with a chance coming to the last.

Well done Aidan, I tip my hat to you sir!

    Well done Aidan

A guy I know backed Mon Mome in 2009, backed that winner today.

In fairness he's a racing man not a pin sticker

Am I right in saying all horses are ok? Hopefully

Hard to beat the bad 5th with Rare Bob!

According to the BBC commentary: 17 finishers, all horses and jockeys back safe.

Had 50k on myself, but Powers are saying they won't pay me the full amount as they have a max payout of €1,000,000

    There ye go - doubters

Its not just the aftertiming, the bragging is a bit annoying too.

Although I don't care very much, I enjoyed the race and dont think winning money on it would make it any more enjoyable.

It's not that people don't believe ya.
    It's that people don't give a sh1t.

You don't come on telling us every time you piss money away on a loser.

Fair enough - just thought I would share the news.

    Sorry you feel like that.

I don't think you've quite grasped what aftertiming is.

Well done muletide. Nothing better than getting a big winner in the biggest race of all. But aftertiming doesn't make for a happy place.

It's generally not accepted on any horse racing forum. It's even banned on many.

I had a E/W on the 2nd and a win on the 5th, not bad going, huh? Two years ago, I had an 1-2-3 placed on the Grand National, though the 2nd wasn't E/W. Ballabriggs was the winner for me

X2 really enjoyed the race this year.... Unfortunately I have no choice but to take comfort in the last part of the above quote!

My losing streak continues, Roberto Goldback, almost 20 years punting and I've never backed the winner of The National!!!

Having backed the winner of most of the major races around the world it just sums up the race for me.... But I love it and will be back to have another crack next year

Betfair only paid paid place bets on top 4.

Had a nice thump on Rare Bob to place.

    Ah well.

Should only use bookies paying 5/6 places on big races

I feel your pain something similar myself although. I've given up on it tbh and just enjoy it for the spectacle with a token bet.
Closest I ever came well probably the sickest result ever for me was in 2008/2009 when i was so sweet on mon mome i had convinced myself and about 4 friends he was a cert had him backed at 50/1 40/1 and 33/1 possibly 1 of my biggest bets ever finished a distant 10th and bolted up a year later at 100/1 and not a bean on him. VOMIT worthy stuff!!

Only just noticed Seabass' SP was 11/2 FFS. Versus 10.5 Betfair SP, I shouldn't be surprised as its a similar story every year but that's simply daylight robbery

I bought the mirror today as it had a random draw for 154k for the national. Each paper had a card with 5 horses listed, 1-5. If they finished in that order, you dial a number & claim the 154k.

The 5 listed on my card were ( I shxtyou not)
    1st Oscar Time (4th)
    2nd Rare Bob(5th)
    3rdWeird Al (nowhere)
    4th Auroras Encore (1st)
    5th Seing Bill (6th)

    The randomness of it all.

    I backed three

    Aurora Encore
    Teaforthree
    Rare bob

    ALL EW

    Yeah, I know.
But I preferred the idea of being able to put on a place only bet with betfair and get good odds.
got 5/1 and 6/1 on Rare Bob to place on Bet fair like.

    Problem is, only 4 places
