If you try and remove it you'll either rip the jumper or there's ink on it that will destroy the jumper if you open it.

Did the alarm not go off when you walked out of the shop?

How did you leave the shop with the tag still on?

I think there is something deeper than what is in the OP

    I can help op :)

I used to work in retail. Generally there are 2 types of clothing tags, ink or non-ink tags (to simplify) But bad news for you is that most are the ink kind when clothing is used. If you try to break it, the dye capsules inside will snap and ruin the jumper. The tag is disc shaped, right?

As silly as this may sound the easiest way to get it off is to freeze the jumper. Thus freezing the ink. Then break. One lad I worked with years ago bought something in the shop but forgot to take the tag off. Rather than bring it back (and likely be accused of stealing it) he froze it then smashed the tag.

Magnets wont work. It needs an electro magnet set to an exact strength. Too strong and it locks again.

Good pair of tin snips will take it off easy.

I took about 6 or 7 off last year on the wife and daughters clothes. They're shocking lazy in some of the shops.

It's a stong magnet. The side marked ink has a perforated edge. The pin side has the pin with teeth. They interlock. The de tagger pulls the ink receiver to the side and releases the pin.

usually if you come home with jumper, tshirt etc with a tag still on, its usually not the staff fault as they remove one tag, but the item has two tags.

the reason the item has two tags is that some clever person has already been into the shop with a magnet, removed the tag, stuck the item in his/her bag and rather then throwing the tag on the floor which would make it clear to staff a robber been in, they hide it on another item of clothes.

when the OP wife bring it back, its the staff who get the blame for not removing it, when infact she already had removed one but didnt see the second.

anyone want go ''shopping'' with me in galway???

1.) Smash it with a hammer
2.) If it works - great. If it doesn't work/ink explodes/whatever else *then* take it back to the shop. Demand new replacement item. Make them eat the cost.

These things are a huge hassle for honest folk who pay for stuff, but that's the only people they impact. I knew a guy in college who used to seriously shoplift everything he could touch - guess what? He stole the devices that REMOVE them. Anyone can get a part-time job at some shop that uses them and swipe one. This isn't rocket science. Even if you're a *dumb* shoplifter - so what? Steal 10 items and try taking it off 10 different ways. It won't be very long before you figure out a way.

Most theft comes from employees anyway.

If shops are going to intentionally attach things that damage clothing, they should be responsible when they fail to remove the things and the clothing gets damaged.

I think he had us all going, on April fool's day!

Seriously, nobody would be that upset about a top that they'd return it for a full refund coz they couldn't wear it on Easter, right?!

Hi op, I work in a clothing store.

First of all, is there any British flags on the jumper?

Seriously!!! I'd say keep the top but lose the wife - she sounds like more hassle than the top:D

Did you sort this out yet OP?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
