207 failed in Connolly yesterday evening. A 29 set covered for the Enterprise and return service from Central.

Yup it did indeed. The coaches was the problem - HEP issue with Power actually going into them -

See Chris got it at Lisburn on the return working..

225??? That's in Inchicore waiting to be repaired for the past two years. It doesn't even have it's fuel tank fitted.

The 201's UK cousins were the subject of a recent study by GE Transportation. Seems they want to retrofit some features of the (GE) Class 70 onto existing 66s. Presumably some of these fixes would be deployable on other EMD710 platforms subject to space.

It may be me but does anyone think the front of them UK class 66s look like the front of the land rover defender jeeps....

    Maybe I'm going mad!!!!!!!!

For pure no frills utilitarianism it's closer to a Land Rover 101 like mine which is also designed for pulling stuff (guns in this case) ;)

One of the energy saving features that the Powerhaul engines have, according to GE, is the use of the Miller Cycle on the compression stroke. Under load the entry air from the turbochargers will be at a higher pressure than no load, so the full compression stroke to achieve ignition is not needed. This is achieved by varying the inlet valve timing, for example, on full power the inlet valve will remain open for part of the compression stroke. Nox production is also diminished as the high combustion temperatures resulting from excessive compression pressure are avoided.

As the EMD's are two stroke, there is no inlet valve to vary, but one source I looked up suggests the compression stroke could also be varied via exhaust valve timing.

Why spend money on something that's not used? That's how IE look at it. The same reason the hulk of 225 has been sitting in Inchicore waiting to be fixed for 2+ years. They won't bother as they have surplus locos to requirements. Same with some of the ICR sets, some need overhauls already due to the high miles run up during testing and commissioning but they have so many spare sets they are just leaving them in rolling storage until they have to perform the overhauls to get them back out in service.

Yeah but if the insurance paid up to fix it then it cannot be used until the money they got to fix it is spent on fixing it. :)

Oh jeez that was where the money for the 201 paintjobs came from. Put to good use so. Should they not get rid of it from this so. :D

Knowing IE, they probably never asked for the money.

209 and 4004 formed the 17.20 cork to Dublin.

Also another 201 was outside the engine shed.

Btw how long have the two hexagonal signs saying 40(mph?) been at the entrance to going under the road before they enter the mile tunnel ? Also IE have put a giant mound of I presume is ballast in what is cork yard pilled next to the signal cabin. Anyone shed any
    light on that ?

Also the railings on the subway have been removed so IE seem to not have forgotten about the lads in cork.

215 sitting in cork as I'm about to go to Midleton to see the station and do something with my holiday.

217 is siting outside the engine shed and I'm guessing its the same one as was there yesterday.
