The amount of people in this thread that haven't a clue about Las Vegas is funny.

It is what you make it, there's tons of stuff to do, the nightclubs are class (one has a swimming pool in it) ,there's free drink everywhere, food is crazy cheap, tons of shows and events, I was there for 3 nights and loved it.
Are you serious? I live in Monaco and if anyone was to be advised on a place to go once in their life it would be Las Vegas and not Monaco. You can drink for free in Vegas with the odd tip to the dolly, you can drink for €20 a beer in Monaco.

Go to Las Vegas OP, you won't regret it.

Free drink isn't a massive incentive for me to go somewhere, TBH.

I don't gamble much and only drink every so often (binge :o) but I'm off to Vegas in August for the second time. Five star hotel for the price of a two star in most other big US cities? Yes please.

It's just so ridiculous and unlike anywhere else in the world, absolutely love it...couldn't go for longer than a week though.

If you're into an energetic atmosphere then it's brilliant

I like energetic places, but Las Vegas doesn't appeal really. The tackiness. :( I'm an aesthete.

Vegas is an amazing place, anyone who says differently probably never ventured outside of their hotel (or away from the strip).

Or did, and just didn't like it.

The only thing I'd love to see is Las Vegas appearing in the middle of the desert suddenly. That'd be cool.

Don't listen to the haters on this thread, they probably haven't been, are no fun or are just poor.

What a bizarre thing to say. Haterzzzz, seriously?

I'm surprised at all the "I'm surprised at the negative comments" comments on this thread. People in 'liking different things' shocka!

Well, for me I said it doesn't massively appeal. That doesn't mean I'll never go but I doubt I'll ever find the time as there are so many more places I'd want to go before then. It's not "funny" at all, people decide where they'd like to visit abroad based on reading up about places and going by their own interests.

It would offer you very little. Best stick to what you know you like instead of trying something different.

:pac: at how offended and defensive people are getting on behalf of a city. Odd.

I was there for a few days and thought it brilliant-
Felt a bit guilty just seeing the excess of the place for the first while.
I didnt gamble more than the 50 free dollars the hotel gave me- which went very quick , def not into the gambling - didnt hear of anyone winning anything while I was there.

Visiting historic sites was brilliant ( I hired a car and went touring death valley for ghost towns!) hoover dam, grand canyon..

Some things look expensive ($100 typical for a show) but most in c helicopter trips can be got less than half price with a little research.
    Some shows are free...

Lots of conventions for various interests if you plan the dates right...

Sorry i didnt take in ET drive route 66 etc- might go back some day.

    “Roll it back”

the ones that are negative about vegas are the type that wear hankies tied in the four corners on their heads sitting on rain swept beaches here.ive been thrice to vegas..its utterly utterly in the extreme and you will want to go back long after you have forgotten **** holes in europe..AND the american holiday/service workers i personally found above and beyond their job description..talk about service and politeness..

Been 3 times and have enjoyed it more & more each time!

You have to go VIP at a top club at least once - personal security guard and waitress to pour your drinks, the attention you get from the females is crazy! :)

Yes, Vegas or windswept, rainy beaches are the only choices people have.

    They need the tips.

Cringe. See, this is why Vegas is not for me. VIP areas, shudder.

When tips constitute a large wedge of your take-home, you're inclined to treat Bob n' Betsy like they're the Sultan of Brunei.

Yeah, I think a lot of people don't realise that lots of American service workers receive under the minimum wage as their basic, so to have a decent standard of living, they HAVE to make it up in tips. That's why it's such bad form not to tip in the States, even when the service or product is terrible. It's not right, of course, their employers should pay them properly, why should already paying customers have to make up the difference?

It is funny because the people with no experience of the place have very strong negative opinions.

While the majority of people who have experience of the place like it.

    Funny huh?

Actually, a few people in the thread who didn't like or were indifferent to it have been there.

As for the people posting here who loved it, well the people who go are likely to be drawn to what Vegas offers, so it's not a surprise that they like it when they go. It's unlikely they were reluctant to go and were then converted. They knew it would suit them, most likely. You wouldn't shell out for it if it didn't in some way appeal.

    So, not so strange.

What's funny is how defensive people are about it not appealing to others.

Hubby wants to go to Las Vegas for his 50th birthday. Am bookmarking this till then:) as they are some great ideas in it.

Really want to spend some time in San Francisco and N. California - have read far too many 1950/60s pop-America books not too.

If you are into your literature go to a bar called Vesuvio on the Jack Karoac way. Claas spot. We sat in a booth upstairs and then realised it was dedicated to James Joyce. Outside the window in the laneway a poetry festival was going on. Also had breakfast in the coffee shop where the godfather was written. Such a class city. Head to La Taquria in the misson for best burrito I have ever had. Go look at the murals on the walls and visit the pirate shop.

Back on topic: If you don't enjoy vegas I feel sorry for you coz you must be dead inside. I am not a gambler and not a clubbing person but had 10 of the best days of my life in vegas last summer.

Defo do Grand Canyon. We flew from boulder city on laat trip of day and pilot delayed in canyon a bit so we would fly out to setting sun. Never have I experienced anything so beautiful in my life. Flying through a tightish gap in the mountains with "Danger Zone" pumping in my headphones and feeling like I was in a movie was just unforgettable.

Go shooting at a range. I was petrified of guns but went to keep other half happy. Turned me on big time! I used a big kick ass PINK machine gun and a handgun and found a side to me I never thought I had!

Do the Mob Attraction at the Tropicana. A really fun way to learn about the Mafia abd the last bit will leave you all shook up!

If you are a thrill seeker like me do the Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere. Oh my god. Shaking for an hour after it. Book a late lunch at the top if the stratosphere but don't go to restaurant just head up to the bar instead for free and enjoy the views over vegas (cocktail optional but gorgeous but expensive). Enjoy watching people jump off the building and fly past your window or be brave and jump too!

Take at least one day and night down Fremont Street way. We spent a night in The Fremont hotel costing $38 for the night and got a free upgrade to a fab suite. Great to soak up atmosphere of the old town. When we were there 2 bands were playing and the lights show was amazing.

Eat in the cheese cake factory at least once. Nom.

Buy the one dollar slush puppy margaritas to cool you down while walking on the strip. So refreshing.

Go to dueling pianos in either New York New York or Binnions for a great evening of craic. God they are all so talented.

Leave your hotel, embrace the full on tackiness and you will have the time of your life. I can't wait to get back some day.

I've been to Las Vegas twice, first time was shortly after turning 21 for my 21st Birthday, I spent ten days there and it was an absolute blast, loved every second. Went to the grand canyon and hoover dam. Went fishing on Lake Meade and then speed boating on it.

The nightlife is fantastic and the women are super hot, like models so hot! I love American women ever since Vegas! Well it is like a Disneyland and let me tell you having the Irish accent really helps! I went shooting and also went out to red-rock canyon which is well worth it. I'm not a gambler and fluttered maybe $50 the whole trip as I'm not a big drinker either, the buffets are great too!

All-in I liked Vegas and there is something to do for everyone, I returned in 2010 and again it was great but only spent 3 nights that time but again loved it.

One street on the outskirts of a city at that.

It's like someone saying they went to Mosney ang hated it in the 80s and saying don't like Dublin because of it.

I'm not strongly against it. I said I might go there, but it's unlikely as there's so many places I want to go to first. Places that have something that really interests me, just as people who go to Vegas are interested in the place, so go there, and more often than not, like the place.

What I think is crazy is people being called haters (has happened in this thread) and other derogatory comments being made just because the place doesn't really appeal to them, or would be nowhere near the top of their to-see list. This kind of shíte:

Yess after seeing an elvis impersonator called Elvis Henderson then mud wrestling in the Stardust followed by a massive college girl bitch fight in my first few hours would definitely recommend it.
After this saw Zed the crazy guy from Police Academy arrested on the strip after the Blue Man show. lost most of my money on black jack by day 2 but had 15 bucks left to stuff my face at a buffet somewhere. Even an Irish themed casino called Mc Sheas with dancing leprechauns , what more do u need

    Something for everybody?
I like my holidays quite as my normal life is rather hectic, I adore the seaside, I abhor heat (anything over 25 degrees I regard as a form of torture), I like classical architecture, history and nice museums, libraries and/or good bookshops.

So tell me, what would Vegas offer me?

How about the Botanical Gardens in Bellagio?
Or the Gallery of fine art?
    Las Vegas Natural History museum?
    Springs Preserve?
    Liberace Museum?

Libraries in Las Vegas - not enough for you?
    Bookshops?

Don't like excessive heat? Go in April/May or September/October.
Fantastic weather with very little rain.
Want snow? Come in winter and head to Mt' Charleston. 40min drive from the Strip.
Head to Lake Las Vegas, Lake Mead or The Lakes for some time on the water.

We have top restaurants, top shopping (any budget), gorgeous parks, Red Rock Canyon, mountains, lakes, gambling, shows, concerts, plays, sunbathing, museums, waterparks, rollercoasters, watersports, hiking, partying, cinemas, bowling, ice-skating, busy clubs, quiet trails and so much more.

Tell me again what you can't find?
