He went back and was surprised to find it was a lap dancing club. Had a private dance with Rossa, but can't remember it.

he went back and there was just a burned out shell there. He asked an old guy when the place had burned down and the old guy said "why, it burned down 100 years ago this very month".

    Dern

    Dern

    DERNNNNNNNNNNNN

then op turned around and saw the bar on the other side of the street. "My bad!" said the op. The end.

 €5.75 for a glass of Rioja? Were there gold flakes swirling around in it? The €30 could be for those two bags of crisps you bought (there are Tip Crisps on sale or was that a dream I had?).

PS did you get any loving from the gf that night for buying her a €35 glass of wine?
Where are all these places where a glass of wine isn't 5+?

Honest mistake. I worked in a place where when a new system was setup for the restaurant, there was a chance of this very thing happening. The system was done so that if you entered a higher amount, it would appear as the way described by the op. So Rossa would hit 4100 by mistake on the keypad, meaning to enter just the 1100. Maybe they have fat fingers. The system would put the extra 30 into the tip category as the bill amount was just 11.

Simple matter to rectify tho. Walk in with receipt and talk to manager. Manager looks over books for the end of shift and there should be a difference between the til float at end of night & card transactions. If cashback was given, then the money count at the end of the night should be spot on. If no cashback then the batch processing on the card terminal would show €30 more than what the til runoff should have. Refund the €30 to customer.

You forgot 'tell the internet'. That's what I'd do if it was my £30.

JEEEEESUS, elevnty million posts later! Pissing myself laughing catching up reading all those posts!

Turns out I didn’t get abducted and murdered over £30! Happy days! you can call of the search now.

Sorry for the late reply by the way … you impatient drama whores. Don’t you people have jobs?... :pac:

ANYWHO, so I only popped into the bar after work yesterday and saw that it was completely dead inside apart from two people sitting over at a table having a bite to eat. Turns out the two people were the bar manager and a good mate of mine! … So much for my war path and all the violent boards.ie advice.

So I handed over the scan of the receipts and explained myself, to which I got an immediate explanation that “tip” comes up on receipts for cash back transactions – which I told her I didn’t get, which was met with some suspicion. I stood my ground anyway and the three of us went upstairs to the office where we could view the camera footage

Checked out footage for the date and the time from two of the bar cams. Wasn’t very clear though as to what the bartender had handed over to me (whether it was two receipts and my card, or if cash aswell so that wasn’t great) BUT, the guy serving me didn’t open the till at all before or after the transaction which was great for me!

So it seems the server charged £30 extra on my card as cashback but isn’t seen going to a till afterwards (he goes straight back to showing the other guy how to make cocktails… ) That’s about all that we could find out from the footage. Anywho, she gave me the £30 in cash, dug up their copy of the receipt for me to sign and date 19/03/13 (verifying that, I’d gotten the money afterwards).

So as for the £30 and the bartender, the bar manager is gonna ask him. Seemingly he’s been there a good while and this would be very out of character so she thinks it was a simple mistake. Anywho, I’m waiting for word back myself but i'm betting the answer I get back is "it was a genuine mistake" - we'll see.

I did get my 30 quid back and was told to ask for the bar manager next time I’m in to be looked after. So I’m happy enough!

So, no face breaking, no mad facebook campaigns with me sitting outside the establishment in a wheelchair, and no kidnappings/intimidation. Sorry for the anti-climax. :p

Oh you'll be "looked after" alright.

Well shíte. I was hoping there would be a one legged midget prostitute from Panama introduced and make an appearance on the scene. With her karate black belt, halarity and ass kickin's would ensue. All's well that ends well so.

Good Lord? Really? *adjusts monocle My valet usually pays so I don't know the up to date prices.

Actually I think do it's €5.25 in my neck of the woods although I'm happy to stick to Carlsberg. Time to return to the days of the Shebeen where we can make our own beers and wines. WANTED : Some lovely ladies with nice feet to stomp on grapes. Apply within.

Could you not have taken more time!? Could you not have teased us more by being completely not arsed about it after being initially all excited/irate!? Don't you know how these threads are supposed to be done!?

No. Instead, you went back and and calmly explained the situation with management and got a satisfactory resolution... For shame OP, for shame....

Indeed! Some of the well heeled restaurants that the Dublin based, er, "celebs" frequented back in the boom times may have had an employee or two who would spit/drop ash in haughty/rude diners' dishes. Allegedly.

Awaits the some busybody got me sacked from my job thread from Rossa.

I'm thinking it's possible that he may have taken the money from the till later that day. That way the tills would have balanced. If he didn't surely they would have been €30 up since he hadn't given you the cashback?

What is the correct tip in these post Tiger days? Maybe OP briefly thought he was back in the boom times? ;)

Tip? This isn't America, tipping is not much a custom here. It happens but is not widespread.

The amount is clearly shown on the machine at the time of entering your PIN. You failed to check the amount and entered your pin.

While it sucks to be down money I don't think you have any come back in this situation (although yes giving the money back would be the honourable thing to do).

All complaints have to be taken very seriously. Having worked with the public before I can assure that the customer's word is usually taken over the staff's word.

In order to avoid getting a bad reputation (from word of mouth) the manager is likely to give a refund. I've even seen people get refunds without receipts from time to time if their claim was reasonable.

I once got a refund on boots that unravelled at the seams three months after I bought them. I had kept no receipt as I expected the boots should last a long time.

People should be more confident in their consumer rights! Complain politely and alot can get done!!;)
