I'd do the same, so would many out there. Would you not help out a friend in need if you had a compatible organ or blood? Who says you have to be best mates? I'm just not getting this whole stratospheric status he's been raised to.

Basically because its a very serious operation, harder in the donar than the receiver, and now he has only one kidney should anything happen.

Yes, I'd like to think I'd help someone in need but it's a fair jump from a blood donation to a kidney. And if that person wasn't a close friend or family, I just don't think I would take all that risk.

Sure why is there anyone on the kidney transplant list if there are 'many people' out there that would make this sacrifice?

Most people wouldn't give a kidney even if they were dead.

Even when they know it could save a life

If there were more donors then less living people would have to go under the knife.

If you want to become a donor - just tick the box on the back of your driving license
and mention it to your next of kin next time you see them

The transplant list is growing longer and there are only two ways of getting off it. :(
    http://www.organdonation.ie/facts
In 2012 the total number of donors was 78 deceased and 32 live donors. There were 239 solid organ transplants performed: 163 kidney; 50 liver; 14 lung; 10 heart; 2 pancreas.

Total number of patients on the Transplant List in December 2012 was 563, 35 more people than at the end of the previous year.

Brolly is a troll of a pundit but he might be okay when 'out of character'.

A nice guy, he likes fcuking with people a bit but I find that funny. The time he played for Derry in a challenge match against Fermanagh in the late 90s whilst wearing tracksuit bottoms was particularly amusing to me.

In other news, Declan Kidney has given a friend his spare brolly.

Met him going into the mater this morning and he was extremely nice. I couldn't place him at first but then copped it, always been a fan of his punditry tbh, felt he said it like it was more than most. Great guy.

Can't abide him as a commentator, heard him on the radio talking about his good deed and couldn't abide him then, that's all I know about him.

So he has done a good deed. And now he's all over RTE, yakking about how good he for doing his good deed? G'way and shíte.

(I have no idea who this chap is, nor am I interested in finding out. I don't watch RTE, I have zero interest in GAA, and fúck yourself if you think I'm going to watch the Late Late.)

Was it one AI he won and it makes him some sort of "expert" at the game. He may have done a good deed but it takes nothiong away from the fact he is a small minded tosser.

I carry an Organ Donor card myself. So hold on to your rolleyes.

So people who go on the telly should only be talking to you? They would never be talking to the vast majority who don't make a decision about donating?

Mealy mouthed begrudgery is mealy mouthed begrudery.

Bit off the topic off the thread, but yes, this does make him an expert, winning an all-Ireland is something that less than 0.1% of people who have played the game achieve, so yes, I'd say Joe does know a thing or two about the game. Doesnt mean I like him as a pundit, but yes, he is an expert

Lets not forget, this isnt a GAA thread, why do so many people on here have to make a point of how much of a w*nker they think he is, the man has done an amazing thing in donating his kidney to someone else, why do people need to take away from that making him out to be a c*nt?

Only heard him on the radio didn't notice him promoting donor cards particularly, didn't see it last night.

People can do good things and still be w*****s. Brolly is no different to all the people all over the world who carry a donor card.

And 4 National leagues combined with a decorated club career including an Ulster club title. I think he's also got 3 Allstars?

Whether you agree with him or not, he's well enough qualified to analyse.

Why bother posting on this thread, that's what most people who have no interest in a topic do.

Just to clarify, Joe has only been willing to talk about this procedure in order to raise awareness of kidney donation programmes etc, especially significant in this case as the donee eventually rejected Joe's kidney. You can say there are fringe benefits in that we all know about this incredibly kind gesture he made, but that isn't why he did it.

People can do good things and still be w*****s. Brolly is no different to all the people all over the world who carry a donor card.

Never said he was any different, he may or may not be a w*nker, Ive already stated I dont agree with much of what he say/writes, and I dont know him personally so I cant comment on his character, but I have massive admiration for the man, what he did was something which very few would even consider doing for someone they dont know all that well.

Actually, what he did do was different IMO, he offered up a kidney while still alive, knowing that the surgery would be extremely tough on his body, he essentially gave up 3 months of his life in order to try and save another man's, which is much more than many of his personal critics on here would do.

My issue is that posters on here are calling him a w*nker based on what they have seen/read, having never met the man in their lives. If people want to give their opinions on Joe Brolly the pundit, the GAA forum is that way >>>>

I disagree. Not so much about Joe Brolly but moreso the idea that if you're a decorated player, you'll be a good analyst. Just because you were a good player, doesn't mean you will be clearly able to read a game, highlight weak/strong points and be articulate at the same time.

Oh, a fúck you very much from a fan?

Guess what chief? I can comment as I see fit. If he wanted to do a good deed, go ahead and do it. If you want to raise awareness for the donor list, happy days, more people should. But, here's the kicker. Has he a history of raising awareness? No? I've never heard of the chap before, and suddenly, he seems to be another RTE golden boy.

Call me cynical. But after this, he's going to have his pick of RTE jobs. Believe it or not, some people do "selfless" things, all in their own self interest.
