I am practically in tears here. Just got off the phone to SUSI. They say they are missing part of the course acceptance forms and the bit they have isn't signed. I want to bang my head off a wall.
IT WAS SENT TO YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN BY EAMIL AND TWICE BY POST!!!!!!!!!! AND IT WAS SIGNED!!

Dermighty- keep the money. Amazed they could even manage to give it to you in first place.

Sent the documents that SUSI lost today in an email in PDF format. I hope this is the last thing i have to do.

    Thanks for your response.

I have already paid the fees in full at the start of the academic year; back in September - so should the fees not be paid to me now that I have been approved?

Did you get a response to this Boofle? I am in the same boat - paid the full fees upfront last August, finally got award notification a week ago (67%). Reading this thread I am left confused as to what happens next, and when.

I would suggest anyone emailing documents by PDF follow up asap as I tried emailing documents from the midddle of January until the end of February with no success. I had 13 documents in two files. The files were too big, they couldn't open/read them, they got one and not the other etc etc etc. I sent them again by registered post on Feb 26th. Rang them yesterday and they say they are missing part of the course acceptance form.So I have downloaded it again and filled it in. Will have to send that by registered post too.
So 13 phine calls later, countless emails, €11 in registered postage and fully 7 months after the whole process was started I am still no nearer grant approval. Luckily it is "only" a PLC and no reg fee of €2250. If it had been my son would have had to leave college by now.
Note to SUSI and the idiots that thought it up - the reason that students get grants is because their income or their parents income is below a caertain level and they don't have wads of cash floating around or platinum credit cards.
It that clear enough for you?

    Hi,

SuSi pay the fees directly to the college. If you have paid any fees before this it will be the college that will reimburse what you have paid.

If you would like to send me the following details by PM I can look into your application and explain the 67% of Fees to you:

    W reference number:
    D.O.B:
    Address:
    Mother's Maiden Name:

    Kind regards,
    Robbie,
    SuSi HelpDesk.

I finally got a response from SUSI and they stated that my contribution was processed to my college "at the end of February". However, I have been in contact with the fees office in my college and they apparently have received nothing from SUSI for me yet.

So I am confused where the grant has disappeared to?! This really has been the most painstaking and long drawn out process ever - crazy!!

I don't think I received payment for February - I checked last week to see if it had gone in and I'm 99% certain that it hadn't. Checked today and there's still no change to my balance. I've never had a problem with payments before, I've been getting them since the first payment in October

    same

Same, not one of them willing to help but finally got a person who wasnt an absolute useless lazy fool and he explained the situation which infuriated me even more but fair play to the man for tryin to help me, PM me and I will forward his email on cause the rest of them are good for nothin.

Surely this crowd can expect to all be joining the dole queue once this term is over. Never in my life seen incompetence of this level. I hate to be calling for blood but I know lads who've had to drop out over this crowd and countless others like myself struggling. If I handled somethin as badly as this once I'm finished college and in a job then I would fully expect to lose that job.

Starting with Ruairi Quinn. "Accountability" and all that, I remember the promises.

I Received a letter today that maintenance grant of €2375 but the thing is I'm on back to education so what is this money for?

Write back and tell them you are on BTEA and should not be getting maintenance

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I thought i read somewhere you can get BTE and the student grant in special circumstances?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 yohanlon

Just got refused on second appeal from the Dept of Education as my course is not recognised as a Major award, according to my college it is a major award and since the college can claim free tuition fees from Department there is no reason they shouldnt approve my grant?
    any advice?

It says special rate was wondering is this due to the fact im a mature student and living at home with father on btea and mother on careers allowance as well.

If you are getting BTEA you can also get a fee grant but not a maintenance grant

You still shouldn't be getting BTEA and a maintenance grant. It's a mistake on SUSIs part. This happened to other people on here and they now have to pay SUSI back.

If its a 2nd appeal it might not be able to go any further within the dept. You could consider taking it to the ombudsman.

Could this be the student contribution? As in the fee portion of the grant not the maintenance....

Dont know it says Award: Full Maintenance and 100% Fees Adjacent then says Maintance Grant: €2,375.01 (googled this figure it says its special rate). Bit of a Joke I have been waiting since june and only awarded fees now.
