Just browsing over in the weather forum and our man MT and the other weather people are talking chances of snow on Sunday night into Monday.
I had really got Beyond the notion of much snow at this stage.
We're off to Lanzarote on sunday for a week so let it snow! Last thing I want to hear on my return is 'you missed a great week last week'!

Maloney, do you have your paddocks sheep fenced? Our neighbour got them once to clean after cows on the 2nd hour after arrival were in front of cows, sold 1 week later, that was 20 years ago and he still gets slagged about it

we have kinda moved away from the paddock system ... more like blocks which we subdivide for the cows and then the sheep clean out the block

I know we are delaying re growth a fair bit , but we work off a buffer area which we use if grass is scarce or mow for round bales otherwise

we started this system in the late 80's when limited cash flow and unavailability of quota prevented expansion into dairying, and have no intention of changing

Right, it's so bloody miserable outside that I'm lighting a fire in the sitting room, putting my feet up, grabbing a nice fluffy cat, galaxy bar and a new book and not moving all day.

........is what I would be saying if a cow wasn't sick to calve:(

Nooooo....but his books seem to be good. Dammit I need new bookshelves though, I've resorted to piling them against the walls and someday I will be buried under them. What are you studying that requries Bill Bryson reading material?

Best thing I ever got was the kindle. I didn't read many books for several years after I left college - I think I was just burned out, but the kindle has re kindled my like for books.

I read him for pleasure and interest. Read his Down Under if you get a chance.

For study I am reading postmodernism. I have one last essay to finish on a topic of my choice. I'm discussing the portrayal of the Indian in westerns. Interesting if I could get my ass in gear!

In history it's Ireland since 1916. One essay left and an exam then finished.

But I like the feel of a physical book, plus they look awesome when you get a bookshelf full.

That sounds really interesting. Does it mean you get to watch a lot of John Wayne movies?:D

I'm just applying for a course starting this autumn. Fingers crossed:D

Off to Paris for the weekend. A treat for the misses before lambing starts and she doesn't see me for the month. At least it's wet. I won't be thinking of jobs I could be doing.

clear test.... had a crappy morning, cut my finger while taking out milk sock this morning, at one stage i thought i would need to put one of the rings for the cows tail on it to stop it bleeding, a real clean cut, now have 2 hello kitty plasters on it, seems to be stopped... had to get mechanic to tractor , thought alternator was gone, he put a new one on but turns out the old alternator was ok, it was just the relay that was stuck, then to top things off some idiot reversed the feeder in to the silage pit wall and did in the bearing at the back, as you can imagine my mood is fantastic, cant wait for wine this evening

By the sounds of it you're studying Arts? Forgive my ignorance but what is postmodernism?

Fairly anti-farmer I'd say judging from the amount of farm houses they filmed them burning down :D

On the topic of Indians and readings. Bury my heart at wounded knee by Dee Brown, is a great read for anyone that grew up listening to all the great Indian leaders names. Sad in many ways but brilliant read.

I laughed to myself earlier in the Gym I overheard a 14 y.o. young lad excitedly telling his freinds how he was goin to work on his fathers farm for the summer for €15/day. He had it all planned out what he was going to buy, all sorts of games/airsoft equip.
It was nice to hear a young lad being excited at the prospect of a bit of work. :)
