Well I can't speak for SF4 as I've yet to see that on a 15Khz screen...but by and large a pc, a compatible ATi/Nvidia gfx card {something more powerful than an ArcadeVGA}, soft15Khz & a jpac look absolutely stunning if they're running through a 15Khz arcade crt.

It looks fine at low res. I had to use the 360 version rather than PC because the PC version (at least the one I had at the time) wouldn't go as low as 640 x 480 - which is the max resolution of the tri-sync.

Bear that in mind urban if you weren't already aware of it - 640 x 480 is the highest you can go on an E3/AWSD so don't expect HD visuals or anything.

I use an arcadevga, quad core and 4gb ram
I only play retro games so no sf4 and it plays everything I throw at it.
If you plug a pc into a trisync and play 15khz games what does it look like?

    yeah,your all right.
It'd be for tate games anyway so no sf4!
on the arcade vga.No issues with bios screens with that?(or any of that crap)
how do you connect an arcade vga to a non trisync? (special cable etc)
    these might be silly questions!

You see my bios screen, that's about it, I've windows hidden
You just need a VGA break out cable
It's basically VGA at one end and bare rgb sync ground cables at the other end.
So I've mine going straight to a gamma fingerboard

    Thanks Cathal,
Just had a read on the ulimarc site.
arcadevga and jpac seen like the simplest and most flexible solution

I use a jpac & soft15...its perfect for my needs. A little too perfect actually, it made me sell off my pcb's as it was so much more convenient over lugging out my cab to change the boards and the difference between the two was indistinguishable

Regards bios screens & login screens, your still gonna have that issue with a tri-sync. Personally speaking a bios screen & pc booting up doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just have it set for no login screen & for HS to run when windows boots.

Same here, bios screen etc is fine once you have no login and HS auto starts. In fairness anyone who knows anything about arcade games will know there's a PC inside it once they see the frontend and all the games, anyone who has no knowledge won't pay any attention to the bios etc.

Another thing with the candies, or ones I'm familiar with anyway, you have to flick a switch on the cab itself to turn it on. So it would already be powered on at the wall first, power on the PC with a button or whatever, wait a few seconds before turning on the cab and by the time the monitor comes on - HS will be loaded. That's what I always did.

You heard what with the whatnow? A Jpac will protect your monitor, if the signal isn't 15Khz I think they lock out sync'ing as a form of protection. As far as your monitor is concerned, its just another day at the office

I think Namco candy cabs are just a bit too mental looking for me in general. Consolettes, Exceleenas, Cyberleads...just came across this monstrosity now on the AO Wiki.

Those Namco designers must be lunatics.

I'd love that, CP looks a bit bogie though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭geotrig

aye, their cab designs are slighty out there alright ...my main problem with namco's cabs is that the pcb bay is very small in a couple of them ....i've always like the consolettas though and they suffer from that small bay thing....dynalive is fugly

Strange that their candy cabs are so odd as their dedicated shooting cabs are gorgeous.
