Yeah, the performance ones are just a base layer really, too light to wear by themselves.

Is the Lidl stuff any use? I got done stuff from Aldi a few months back and it seems alright.

I'm new to cycling so still building up the gear I have.

Bought one of their jackets last year and have used it for two winters. I have two other heavyish jackets I bought in bike shops and Yet I always seem to grab the Lidl jacket ahead of them.

I think their padded shorts are crap, not even worth the ten bob or whatever it is. In my experience, the fit is so bad they are unwearable.

+1 on the winter jackets. They are certainly worth the money and I quite like mine. Just be careful of the sizing (as ever with Lidl stuff). I like jackets 'snug' and bought two sizes smaller than the label would suggest I should have....

Yeah, I bought a pair of shorts lasy year and the sizing was mental. I'm an xl in every other normal brand so bought xl, got home and tried them on and they were like clown pants, waaaaay tooo big, brought them back and swapped for a large as thats all that was left, was still a little too big, medium would have been the right firt I reckon.

Besides that I got a base layer vest and I've used that any time it's a bit nippy over the summer and early autumn and it was great, still in good nick.

I'll be avoiding the shorts this time but the soft shells have got good reviews the last few times and the waterproof jackets looks decent too.

Has anyone bought / have experience with the cycling jerseys?

i bought one of the jackets last year, quite liked it, but got a dhb jacket from wiggle as a gift for xmas and much prefer it, lidl jacket now used for mountain biking, the dhb kept for the road.

the lidl jacket itself is fine. as are the socks. also getting a few of the sunglasses is handy, i never worry about them now as they're cheap as chips, they get bashed around all over the place

Hi, going to Lidl on monday to grab another pair of those gloves, just wondering if these Wireless computers are any good:

    http://www.lidl.ie/cps/rde/xchg/SID-93A2BC5A-B245503A/lidl_ri_ie/hs.xsl/index_29426.htm

I know they've had them before. Not looking for anything major, just want auto-on, speedometer, odometer (lifetime and individual trip distance) and a clock/stopwatch, can anyone who's bought before confirm it has these and that its readings are accurate? Thanks.

Might pick up one of the cyclo computers. How bad can they be for 7 quid.

I want to know if they're silent or if they make that really loud *CLICK* you get on some cheap ones everytime the magnet passes the sensor as thats a dealbreaker, also want to know about accuracy as some cheapos tend to miss whole turns of the wheel, at least in LIDL you can keep your receipt and bring it back no questions asked.

IDIOT ALERT: I bought one of their wired ones last year and it never worked properly. At random times I'd look down to see it working away but it'd never last. It's now just a handlebar clock. I presume my expert installation had something to do with it, but still... How hard should it be??

You do have to have the sensor literally a couple of mms away from the magnet. A cm or more and it won't work.

Thanks, I'll have a look and see if I can tweak it. (*coughnotlikelycough* :D)

Went in to the Stillorgan branch this morning. I was expecting he usual chaos but there was none - there was just 2 people browsing around the kit when I got there.

I went to pick up a few pairs of gloves and got what I wanted - without having to jump on peoples backs to reach them ;) It was almost pleasant! I also got a wireless computer (backup, not needed at the moment) some cycling shorts (got a medium, no idea if it is the right size) and some other bits and bobs.

I think it was the cold that kept people home, more stuff for me :D. Got two M jerseys (actually only about 4 of them there at 8.30). Quality is actually decent on them. Got a pair of shorts too. If they last as long as the old pair, I'll be doing well

Picked up a softshell jacket, shorts and trousers, happy enough with them. got the softshell in an xl though, think it might be a bit big, maybe try and change it later if i can! Still plenty of stuff left in lidl moore st an hour ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

Picked up a new softshell as well -- sleeves seem long on them compared to previous ones I've had from there/aldi. Was hoping they might have some workstands avail (even though they weren't advertised) as they have them in NI today but nope. Oh well..

I think people are realising that the roads are full of people wearing bland Aldi & Lidl stuff..... just so boring these days.
Now that most of the country are into0 their 2nd /3rd year of cycling - we all want the Sky gear now !!!!!! Reminds me of this famous Tommy Tiernan line

Between myself and the wife we dropped about €90 in there this morning! I picked up a soft shell, compression shorts long and short, 3/4 length shorts and the glasses while she got a couple of things as well, all in all pretty happy! There wasn't too many in the Finglas store at 8 when it opened but in fairness it was miserable so it didnt surprise me.

Just wondered if anyone has used their cycling socks, I didnt buy and but was thinking of going back this evening and getting a couple of pairs if they are anyway decent?
