Between myself and the wife we dropped about €90 in there this morning! I picked up a soft shell, compression shorts long and short, 3/4 length shorts and the glasses while she got a couple of things as well, all in all pretty happy! There wasn't too many in the Finglas store at 8 when it opened but in fairness it was miserable so it didnt surprise me.

Just wondered if anyone has used their cycling socks, I didnt buy and but was thinking of going back this evening and getting a couple of pairs if they are anyway decent?

Have bought the running socks (very similar to the cycling socks) and the "winter" cycling socks (they have a 10cm cuff, not particularly warm). I find them grand, they're they only socks I wear cycling. They keep your feet nice and dry. Will be picking up 2 more pairs today.

I bought one of the motorcycling neck warmers in Aldi Yesterday - definitely worth the 4 quid, came in very handy descending Stocking Lane yesterday : http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_26135.htm

Are they made from fleece material?

not fleecy no, they're fairly light but handy for an extra layer

Ok, thanks. Got the fleecy one Aldi had a few months back and if anything they are too warm!

Alot of large and above rain jackets in Cavan but no men's cycling jerseys and very few soft shell jackets.

Any idea what the stock levels are like in Rathmines?

    Cheers.

Basically still XL jackets and L and XL jerseys, plenty of socks and accessories, didn't see any gloves. Shorts I saw were all L. None of the men's padded baselayer shorts left.

Tubes are MTB style 40mm valve jobs again...le sigh.

Got a Softshell despite myself. Looks far and away better quality than the one I got last year and matches my roadbike...I'm a big man but I find for cycling gear I take an L there, I'd normally be a US XL on the shoulders alone.

Stock levels in Blanch were pretty good at lunch, lots of shorts, jackets, socks, gloves, mini pumps, tubes, repair kits saddle bags and plenty of other cr@p i didn't end up buying. No base layer tops which is all i really wanted. Got them before and they have lasted well.

Was in Grange Road, by Marley Park, and Stillorgan today and seemed to be plenty of stock levels. Was getting some hurley gear for kids too so ended up at both shops during the day.

The cycling gear does seem very good quality - the soft shell and rain jacket both well put together.

Picked up a mini-pump, saddlebag/toolset and 2 pairs of mitts in Drogheda earlier.
Mitts look excellent and only 3.99 so bought two pairs. :)

What are the tools like with the bag? What are they, just some hex keys?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,306 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

Allen keys. handy little built in wrenches from 8-12mm(?) and flathead/phillips head screw drivers. They're actually not bad. I used mine till I lost it.

Between the two cyclists in the household we got quite a bit. 2 glasses, 2 saddle bags (only because they included a multi tool as well), shorts, 3/4 length shorts, 2 'performance trousers', soft shell jacket, jersey and socks. Quite impressed with the shorts and the trousers, will see how warm they really are on Wednesday

EDIT: This was in the Galway shop and they had quite a bit of stock there

Nearly full stock in Bray, probably because of the blizzard all day.

Tbh, I don't think they are made that well and I certainly won't be changing the lens weekly, it's a bit sketchy alright.
You kind of pull one side of the lens's downwards. It takes quite a bit of force but once you see how it slots in, you should be able to do the other a bit easier

Lidl on crumlin rd had loads of stock left, the women's soft shell jackets didnt have pockets on the back?? Whereas the men's did, so I left them, I use the back pockets a lot and the men's jkts were way too big for me. Got a couple of women's tops for €8 each, thanks for heads up on the offer.

Which style does that work for? There were two different styles. One with the full frame surround and the other where the lens is almost frameless.

I have the full frame set and I cant for the life of me see how to slot the lens out. Iv almost pulled the things apart trying to change them :D

Hmmm I only remember seeing the one. It has 3 different lenses inside, black, blue and orange ones. It also has the foam around the inside of the frame as well. The lens is only connected at the sides and the top if that's what you mean? I'm lost :p
I heard a few funny noises trying to get them out, a lot of creaking coming from the frame lol I had to use quite a bit of force pulling on the side closest to the hinge. Looking at the design of the lens, it seems like its the easier side to pull it from. Are you sure you want to take them out:D? I took them out, decided the blue ones were ridiculously dark and slotted the normal ones back in.

Picked these up with the foam around the inside because I thought it will be useful at keeping the pollen at bay when hay fever strikes in the summer

Got the medium blue jersey which is a perfect fit as I usually wear a medium tshirt but the medium soft shell jacket is a little on the big side.would have preferred to have a nice snug fit like the jersey but it'll do for that price.

I bought the Crivit Bike computer (Z31162). Could have been a mistake I know but will to give it a try. The instructions however do not tell you where on the fork to install the sensor. Surely the the height of the sensor and the magnet on the wheel is important or am I missing something? The only measurement it give you is a max of 70cm from sensor to the main display. You input the tyre circumference but wouldn't the position/height of the of the sensor in relation to the wheel matter?

To determine speed you only need to know the wheel circumreference and the revs of it. Therefore the position of the magnet/sensor combo on the wheel and fork is irrelevant.

For example, if your wheel circumreference is 2m and the wheel is spinning at 5 revs per second then you are traveling at 10m/s or 36km/h.
