Is that a SUSI issue? Does your grant come from SUSI?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Do SUSI pay your grant or is it another council or vec?

ok, so i got approved for 100% reg fees :) (no maintenance grant). i handed that form into the relevant department in my college and they took my details.

however i've already paid the first half of my reg fees, will this now be refunded or will SUSI just pay the remaining half?

Latest from the comedy that is SUSI. We got a letter yesterday saying we hadn't dend 4 or 5 random documents.ie son's birth cert and Leaving Cert results and a few other thing. WE DID- back in October. I scanned and emailed (last Sunday 3rd) everything we had originally been asked for under my sons application number. Rep on the phone said something about having them but they were too faded to read!!!!!!! I have the email here- they are perfectly legible. In the end I lost patience and said that I had sent them everything they asked for, and all I was short of sending was my shoe size and family treee.
    They are looking into it.

The whole grant system is a joke. I have sent emails with attached documents over and over and over. I have been told on the phone that they haven't been received because the files are too big!!! Sent them by jpeg in two halves as there are 13 documents. They got one email. Sent both again. No joy. Finally sent them again by pdf and the file is STILL too big. I'm going out of my mind here! They asked me to send them AGAIN in batches of two or three. So at least 5 emails. What sort of dinosaur computer system do they have?

My cousin had to pay the registration fees while waiting for the grant, he was refunded the whole sum.

    Hi,

The total sum of your fees will be paid up to the maximum figure stated on your award letter directly to the college.

If you have already paid a proportion of your fees, SUSI will again pay the fees to the college and the college will then refund you directly.

    I hope this helps.

    Robbie

I was approved for 100% fee grant over two weeks ago and I entered my bank details online. Just wondering when it will come through? And is it paid to my bank account or to the college?

    Hi,

If you were awarded to have your fees covered only, then the fees will be paid directly to the college after they have confirmed your attendance/registration. No funds will be transferred to your bank account unless you have been awarded maintenance.

I hope this clears things up for you.

    Kind regards,
    Robbie

    Thanks for your response.

I have already paid the fees in full at the start of the academic year; back in September - so should the fees not be paid to me now that I have been approved?

It is certainly good to see Robbie responding to individual problems, it seems a pity this wasn't done back in October when this farce broke.

Credit where credit is due however.

    Hey

Was on here last week about not being paid, was told to expect it on the 22nd and disregard the online document with payment dates. Have still not received payment and was told to contact payments department which could take a few days. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm a bit up poo creek without a paddle at this point... I've received payments on the dates provided before so no reason why I shouldn't now

So for including this month the payment have been in sync with the online schedule and the dates the support give is rarely correct, I didn't get mine last week but it was becuase my grant was finally finished with the appeal.

I would recommend going to you student union, if they are like mine the might have someone to help you with susi

At long last I got my grant, I got no maintenance by their original decision, I now have 50% maintenance. I dunno if I got any payment yet but it just shows how many mistakes they can make:) It's the 22nd Feb now, I should have had my grant months ago, if it happens again next year I'm in trouble. I wasn't able to buy food or books for college until now.

I sent my appeal on the 7-1-13. It was recieved 10-1-13.
I was assigned an appeals officer on 10-1-13
A letter was posted on 20-2-13 which said the outcome of that appeal.

    Hi there,

The appeals process can take up to 30 days with the Appeals Officer. In some cases it can be processed in a shorter timeframe.

You will be contacted by post as soon as the appeals process is complete.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Robbie,

Once all required documentation has been submitted, generally how long does it take for an application to be assessed and a decision made?

    Thanks!

I went into my college today to deregister and I found out that susi would pay half my fees but the college didn't have my bank account details. I gave them it today. Anyone know how long it will take to get the money or is it up to the college?

    Hi there,

Unfortunately that is a question I cannot answer. It is hugely dependent on many factors.

Each application is reviewed and assessed on an individual basis with as much time as is necessary.

    I sorry I couldn’t be more specific.

If you would like, you can PM your details and I can have a look at your application and advise on any other queries you may have regarding your specific application.

    Kind regards,
    Robbie

    Hello Robbie and everyone
I received a letter that I am ineligible for a grant because I was receiving BTEA, I am not in receipt of BTEA though I applied for it last sept and I ticked the box on susi form that I applied for BTEA .
I have cancelled my BTEA application since last year and submitted all documents requested by susi. Only for them to tell me am ineligible. I sent the appeal form with a letter from social welfare stating that I wasn't in receipt of BTEA,
I wonder if anyone else is in same boat? How long does appealing takes? Will I ever get paid???

Repeating 2nd year in college (did year 1 and 2 of a UCC course, not doing year 2 of a CIT course (having completed year 1 last year). I neither applied for nor received a grant before this year (ever).

Applied for a grant in September, got the grant awarded in December/January (forget which exactly), was paid half in a lump sum (last Friday in January), the following month i got my monthly payment (February).

I owed tuition and registration to CIT for 2012-2013, as I'm repeating a year and paid for last semester (ie: September to January). Received a bill for this semester as well as an email from the same fees office saying they owed me a refund of registration and tuition. Contacted them, they never replied. Contacted them repeatedly, never replied (this is CIT I'm referring to). I eventually got through (yesterday) and asked what the hell was going on. They told me that the grants authority (SUSI) was to reply to them and that the reason they had held the refund being sent to my account is that they expected SUSI to tell me I shouldn't have gotten a grant award and that I'd have to pay back the fees/registration refund almost as soon as I'd gotten it.

The very next day SUSI ring me and tell me I was given a grant in error (two months after awarding it, nearly six months after applying), sorry about that, further payments have been frozen and you will have to refund the money paid.

    What a f*cking shambles!

    Where to start....

So my appeal finally went through a good few weeks back and I was then only paid 1 month of my proper grant entitlement on the 22nd Febraury but no back payment.

At this stage after 6 months I found this totally unacceptable and started calling and phoning straight away. As per usual no one was willing to help me, I sent 7 emails enquiring about this to cdvec since SUSI had completely absolved themselves of all responsibility at this stage. I got replies for each of the emails none of them answering my questions, none of them any help what so ever. Made a few phone calls then to the CDVEC payments crowd. Twice I was promised a call back, twice it never materialized. Finally on the third time I got through to Paul who actually seemed genuine in helping me but equally as little help as everyone else(but I do appreciate him engaging me). Paul got back to me and notified by that it will not be until the beginning of April that I will receive my back payment and there is absolutely nothing he or I can do about it. That will mean waiting 7 months for my grant with only a month and a half left of college(when it is paid).

I am in my final year of study and am a good student, I put the head down, I don't piss it up every night of the week(or any night for that matter) and expect that for my efforts I receive my grant entitlement swiftly and of the value I am due. Instead all I have met is utter incompetence at every step of the way and the stress that it has caused me in such an important time in my student life is actually insurmountable. :(

I have to agree with you. My son's documentation for his grant was "lost" and after 6 weeks of emails back and forth, and vain efforts by me to send through documentation by pdf, I gave up and sent the documents AGAIN by registered post, asking for a call when they got them. that was Feb 26th. No call needless to say. SUSI have gotten the documents as I checked the tracking number on the An Post website.
Luckily he is living at home but I have two other students in college and it's becoming more and more difficult to even pay bus fares. The other two get the student contribution paid and €300 as an additional sum. It wouldnt even cover bus fare. I wouldnt mind that so much but I put the last guy's fees on the credit card in September and he'll be nearly finished the year by the time he gets a grant.
I dealt with two different local authorities for the other two grants. It was all sorted by October/November easy as pie.
SUSI IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE.
I'll be ringing them today for an update and it had better be sorted or I'll hit the roof.

Thanks for the offer but I find using a social networking website as a support mechanism ridiculous. If I need help I'll ring SUSI, or better yet they will ring me when they come looking for their money.
